Scottie Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Pioneer has broken the mould yet again with the XDJ-AERO, the industry's first Wi-Fi enabled all-in-one DJ player and mobile Application combo. The groundbreaking DJ system is set to change the way DJs play by liberating them from endless cables and connections. In an industry first, the XDJ-AERO allows DJs to load music wirelessly from smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCs, instantly taking the hassle out of set up. The XDJ-AERO creates its own private Wi-Fi network, allowing DJs to connect to up to four wireless devices at once, allowing the crowd to get involved by sending tracks from their own smartphones or tablets to the XDJ-AERO for a more interactive experience.http://pioneerdj.com/english/pressrelea ... t=20120809Thoughts on this? It could be good but atm I feel wireless isnt safe enough to use in a club environment (imagine if someone hacked it and started loading up songs on your decks without your permission... Quote
Cupe Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I don't see the reason to do this?Just another way to cash in on an industry where everyone can easily buy everything for no reason Quote
russell Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 sending the DJ tracks you've got on your phone defeats the purpose of going to see a DJ. you'd be as well sitting in the house listening to your phone. Quote
GREMM1S Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 lol, imagine it in a club with all the interference.Pioneer are getting as bad as apple all these new models to milk the public for every last dollar, i assume we will have new cdjs within two or so years a swell the rate they are going. Quote
SolDios Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Pretty much looks like a pretty good unit, accept for the sync button and the tiny pitch faders. It's essentially a combination between a ddj-t1 and cdj 350If you ask me, this is perfect for the mobile dj, it allows you to have one compact unit without the laptop, and sort though thousands of songs fast for requests. Also wireless jammers can be brought for around $40, and I don't see any individual channel volume level displays, only a master. Scottie Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Whats wrong with having a sync button? even if you dont use it you could probably map it to a different function or *gasp* not use it Quote
SolDios Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 ^ Can't really re map it unless you can actually use it as a controller. and in this case, it takes up the room where they could have had a full size pitch fader Quote
Mitch Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Never seen a controller that doesn't have a sync button, so you can't really call it a conits not marketed towards professional DJs anyway Quote
AlexJ Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Never seen a controller that doesn't have a sync button, so you can't really call it a conits not marketed towards professional DJs anyway^^thisyou dont go out to a club to see a guy use a controller like that. was going to say 'go out to a club to see someone with a controller' but then realised ive seen a couple of really good live sets where dj has sampled this shite out of songs to make some epic custom beats. doesnt look like you can do the same sort of thing of the XDJ so in my mind. wont appear in clubs anyway.its more for the lad just chillen with his mates who whips it out of his backpack. like a glorified ergo. except im sure will cost way more than the t1. GREMM1S Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 One of the biggest thing with any dj gear is reliability though, and i dont think the benefit of the wifi access will outweigh the poor stability. Quote
legunner Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I see a real future in pioneer making a product like the stanton scs4dj instead with rekordbox loaded on the unit and playback off usbs it would be epic.. This just looks confusing. Quote
ThatPartyGuy Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 lol, its interesting. if it was way cheaper then $1,399... might consider it. love to what hacks can be used on it haha. Quote
SourceRaver Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Friend of mine was telling me about the American DJ Versadeck. It's a standalone media player with inbuilt processor and sound card. You can connect CDJs or TTs and use it as a mixer and it's also a midi controller for manipulating software like VDJ or Traktor. All it needs is wireless capability and would have everything. Quote
dflux4 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 As mentioned, the stability would be the only thing that would bother me..With all wireless devices that i have encoutered, each comes with its own problems with connectivity. They would need to utilise a bandwith that has not been currently used to ensure less drop outs and what not... All in all its a great idea but until the whole wireless thing gets better in quality i think this will be more of a hinderence. At least when things are connected by cable you have a genereal idea of where to look. GREMM1S Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 One day rekordbox will either be online or have an export to cloud option, whereby you log into the decks or a dongle through a router via link where you play your music through the net. That said for djing i dont think anything will ever beat local, wired storage. Quote
PhonicAssassin Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Also wireless jammers can be brought for around $40, and I don't see any individual channel volume level displays, only a master.I'm fairly sure that a wireless jammer will jam ALL wireless devices within a defined radius including the XDJ-Aero! I could be wrong but I def agree with what Russell said too. Its not supposed to be a radio request show, people should be turning up because they like YOUR taste in music and are happy to let you choose the tracks. Quote
MelodyIlliterate Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 wish it was just a stand alone controller with usb without all th bullshit... haven't seen any good reviews on it anywhere Quote
BeatLeSS Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Whining about wireless tech is pointless. There is no reason stability would become a hinderance on this device. Wireless technology has been around for so long now it has been refined, sped up, refined more. Short of the wireless chip becoming faulty without any other functionality being affected to bring it to your attention the only bottle neck will be yourself. Speed is fine, wireless networks are heaps fast now, it won't need a super amount of bandwidth!Sounds like a great idea for house parties, but I would imagine that the people would need the APP on their phone, which Pioneer will no doubt put a $ value on - I don't think it'll take off just because of that. Who the fk wants to normally sit around and stare at ya phone when you can stare at your screen. Bit of prep work would be good on the phone though, lunch hours, commuting etc could be done easily - read an article on this from DJ Tech Tools where theres nothing available at the moment to do all your prep work easily/while mobile. I'd love to see one of the companies do this! Thats an APP i'd spend $10-20 on. Quote

This will only be highly trustworthy if you set your gear up next to your router, most parties will be in the backyad/garage i can easily see wireless being an issue. Quote
GREMM1S Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Like my god Pioneer's link system is over a bloody ethernet cable and thats not even stable lol Quote
Mitch Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I imagine the wireless will be ad hoc (ie personal hotspot style) Quote
GREMM1S Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I imagine the wireless will be ad hoc (ie personal hotspot style)Yeah of course but that would still be prone to wireless issue i would imagine but then again if the devices are close by might be ok. Quote
legunner Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 so guys if i bought this i could just use 2 usb sticks and play like i would cdjs? Quote
mattus123 Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 this whole wireless idea doesn't really phase mei certainly dont trust wireless enough to use it at a gig, and to be perfectly honest, i really dont find cables all that much of a hasslei wouldnt sacrifice the safety of cables for wireless jsut for the convinience of a 5 min quicker set up timelike seriously... plugging cdjs into a mixer takes like 30 seconds...great inventions come from need.. i dont think we 'need' wireless DJ equipment Quote
