you obv have to be beatmatching in your headphones if you're going to do a straight cut

I think what he means is, in some electro you can mash tracks for like 30 seconds to even a minute sometimes before fading over completely

with hip hop it should only be a few bars

Sometimes when mixing deep house or techno I'll gradualkly fade over 2 or even 3 minutes.
