Worst House Party or Gig you've played!

Hi,

I'm just curious I played a extremely bad one on Saturday, we hit 11:01 and I'd started to pack where the person running the party order DJ Rookie and myself to keep playing if we valued our lives. We went on to do so that's then when I took a moment to sneak away from the group. I ended up having to phone the local cops and request police assistance and that the guy looked like he had a possible weapon on his ankle, the police ended responding in a code 4 diamond form and locked down the whole street, sure enough he had a weapon as I first guessed so that's my crazy one.

Just extremely curious.

DJ Rookie said that the crowd was getting intense however it was my gig and he was tagging along, we're were meant to stop the music at 11 we where only hired from 8 - 11 he said the party needed to go longer, I explained to the person in charge the party can't go longer as I had another gig elsewhere we played until the cops showed up and got the hell out of dodge in a hurry.

It's almost enough to put me off house parties your 400 I think takes the cake to be honest, but my guy when searched by the cops did have a GLOCK on his ankle strapped there.

No it wasn't in a bad area what so ever, even the cops where shocked when I called it in, the officer said DJ can you repeat that address, he attempted to confirm it at least six or seven times before he decided he needed to do a report and send a unit or two.

This same scenario but a 21st held on the night of the footy grand final. More security, bar staff and Djs than family and friends. Birthday girl decides to come up to us (eyes rolling around in the back of her head) saying "she wasn't feeling it". Neither were we.

I'll give 1 story from both house parties and clubs

I DJed a 16th about 2 years ago as a favour for a mate but it turned out to be the shittest thing ever. So I get there and set up which is all good and just start rocking out sone deep dubstep to myself while I wait for kids to come in. After about 20mins the whole party was there and straight out I was asked I'd I could play something they could dance too. The usual thing

It was so bad, I just sat on her window ledge crossfading from gay song to gay song. Someone asked me for Afrojack so I played I'll be There, he comes back to me and says, is this Afrojack? It doesn't sound like him. I bluntly told him to nek a dick.

The ok thing that happened was a few girls came up to me asking to play some

Chris Brown track coz they wanted to show me a dance they did together (there were about 4 of them). For 16 year olds they danced like proper sluts lol

So now this club gig, I was closing for Beni from Riot In Belgium and I was playing at 2am just after him. I was hanging around that club for hours and as soon as I get there the fat fuck promoter walks to me with T-Rek (who was also playing that night) if he could borrow my headphones coz he left his on the plane. I said to him break these and not only will you buy me new ones but I'll kill you after you do. They both looked at me strange which is fair enough lol

So I was up in the booth with Beni at around 1ish. Keep in mind I'm not playing til 2. So having a proper chat to him just about random stuff not really caring. He then said to me, you may aswell take over now. May aswell play a few tunes before the club closes.

T-Rek managed to do such a shit job then beni and myself played to 12 people at the very most. I played 2 songs before the bouncer told me to stop. Worst night ever

Ive rocked up to a gig and then not even setup because it was in a half dodge area and the guy who answered the door and showed me where i was setting up was just being so rude. demanding this and that (even told me it was my fault if anything got spilt on my gear from his guests..), guy hasnt even paid me yet. now i could handle this all (you have to with mobile djing occasionally) then he says he cant pay me to middle of next week when he gets paid (it was a friday night) i was like, didnt u get paid 2 days ago? he was like 'yerr, but had to buy ciggies'. i just said 'mate, im not doing this' and then simply got in my car and left.

Worst one I played at wasn't even too bad i suppose.

It was a NYE after party. The promoter was late showing up from the party so nothing was set up. i ended up having to do the set up (which is no real hassle). So I'm playing for about 10-15mins before the first bus load arrives including the promoter... He was proper fucked on the regretamine and could hardly talk. I was playing the first 2 hours and he was playing after me. he was still totally fucked and couldn't set his shit up so he used mine. Stuck some tunes on a USB and used them in my laptop. didn't transfer enough to last his set and when he ran out he just pulled the usb out to get more.... Well you all know that means no more music playing when he does that.

He didn't even realise why the music had went off and pretty much killed the party there and then as he couldn't remedy it.

Nothing as wild as some other stories in here but generally I've had a good time whenever I've been playing.

I used to DJ at a local pub on Friday nights, was just for experience and money and it wasn't a nightclub or anything.

Thats bad enough.

Anyway, I ended up quitting after this gig because it was starting to happen every week and was giving me the shits. I brought all my gear, speakers, amps, cdjs, mixer etc etc. Playing from 9-12 to a mix of young people and a mix of old people. The young people want electro, oldies want country & western. Trying to balance that was fucked.

Anyway, pretty busy night and heaps of people. Start of the night I went to set up where I normally do, a table of old whales had sat where I usually set up and refused to move and were being smart asses so I was having a go at them. I told the manager, he did nothing and said to just move around the corner a bit. There were no power points, had to fuck around trying to get extension cables and i was literally set up directly next to a pool table. I felt like the biggest wanker haha.

So i was pretty pissed off already, started playing some chilled indie tunes, then this drunk bogan was yelling shit at me, "Triple J hottest 100 was last week ya fuckwit" etc etc. Started playing some electro and the young people were digging it and having a dance, but that table of old whales kept yelling stuff, and different ones were walking over to me saying shit like "mate we aren't in a nightclub, play some fuckin country music you idiot or we are gonna leave" blah blah blah. I kept playing electro because there were way more young people. Then there was a massive fight between these 2 groups of bogans, all the security and bar staff got involved to break it up, pretty hectic. One of the lads in the fight walked up to me (im thinking, fuck he is gonna have a go) so my mates came up to me too, then he started having a go saying he wanted to hear some country music or some hectic electro because he wanted to get in a better mood after the fight.

So shit like that kept happening all night, whales started playing pool right next to where I set up too, like I literally had to move at times so they could play a shot! I ended up cutting the music, packing it up and walking out about 11:30. Manager did NOTHING to assist me or set me up properly so I told him I wasn't coming back and I havent been there since. Worst night I have had easily.

1. an 18th, I played every genre that ever existed and couldn't get em on the DF. Everyone enjoyed the music but just wernt the dancing types.

2. Playing in a barn thing on a -5 degree night. People where so cold that they couldn't even come away fom the bonfire to go to the toilet.

That's pretty much it.

Ah yeah that's alright then, it's little things like booth monitors not plugged in and all sorts of shit that annoys you.

Have had rooms shut down before we started playing which always sucks.

With house parties now when people book me i just say i dont play any oldies and only a bit of rnb/pop. Always better than having to play gigs that are mixed or dont like your music.

I call shenanigans, but whatever...

Opened a gig for 'Savage' and 'DJ CXL' to a total of 0 people not including staff. Not all bad though, because they still played the respective sets, and everyone got to meet and greet them (was about the time that 'Swing' got big in NZ).

also played at an event that ended up with about 200 bottles being thrown over the fence @ people etc, that was a hectic night, lol.
