Hey Sol...

When I get bored at work I always check out this forum:

http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthre ... -PICS-v2-0!

Basically pics of set ups from arround the word. Some look crappy, others look real pro. Have a look through and I'm sure you'll find some ideas.

There are a few pics of tables with a folding panel placed in front (instead of using a black cloth). when lit up from behind they look great. You can also buy lycra covers for your speaker stands.

Other than that, grab yourself a nice collared shirt. The T-shirt doesnt do you any favours.

Personally I think a symmetrical lighting setup makes a huge difference

edit: also, more smoke

consider selling either 12's or 15's and get 1 decent sub with the money.

in the first pic, i hope you turned off all the background lights and shit, that would add to what already looks fine

just use a small light over your decks

It's the lighting bar having looked at it longer man, if you minus that it looks really good, also dont like the look of the speakers on the ground, are they 15's whilst the ones on the stands are 12 or 10?

If so sell the smaller speakers like someone already said and buy a sub you can put under your table or on one side.

If the larger speakers have the ability to put a pole in the top maybe do that with the smaller speakers on top of the pole. (cant remember exact terminology).

The ones on the stands are 12's and the ones on the ground are 15's acting as makeshift subs. Id LOVE to sell em and get

A 18' beringer 500w rms sub, it would be amazing in my setup.

However some of you guys have advised me not to work on my mobile setup majorly anymore as I will be trying to get into clubs very soon, If I do, I probably wont be avalible for mobile work.

I kinda want to though, the thought of owning that sub makes me need to change my pants

lose the tee untill you get dem aesthetics imo, i was a similar build to you in highschool (though taller and a little bit more meat) untill i discovered alcohol and got my license, and i found that either a polo with a matching longsleeve under shirt, or those shirts you can get that are collared /w longsleeve undershirt built in made me look more "healthy". Also maybe wear a hoodie/hat/cap/something if you cbf doing your hair if its that long (nohomo)

up to you though mate, dont have much comment on the achual setup as i never did many mobile gigs to offer any solid advice

Are they the same speaker? if so would be better to sell the smaller ones wouldnt it?

I know what you mean with big truss taking too long it would however look alot better man.

Personal presentation i dont think is an issue at all as you seem to play 18ths/school things.

Maybe a smart button up shirt but other than that its ok.

As for saying you wont be avilable once you start clubs dont count chickens before they hatch etc.

Unless you are lucky to get a weekly residency or make it big eventually gigs will every second week or so. Might be handy financially to still do house parties and have your gear ready.

Ok then, yeh it will be ages before/if I manage to get a residancy, most people round radalade just do gigs here and there

On and off again. So I guess it would be fine.

But yeh I see what you mean, il get alot more oomph from my setup by leaving my 12's as backups. (or for really large halls)

and get the 18' for $650.

I have an amazing new idea that a little bit off topic to to this thread so il make a new one.

Lurker Sorry I couldn't find the rms rating and was using a rough method calculate it.

I see what you mean gandy, il go have a look for some long sleave shirts to wear under my current ones.

And gremmis, il have a look at using my truss again. There has to be a faster way!

Its the type that has the two speaker stands at each end right?

Set all your lights up, run your leads before you get there, that said to make them higher its hard with one person

no need for the long sleeve shirts grab some baseball tee's and you'll be sweet

Don't give up on mobile gigs. I've been DJing for many years including in clubs and I still do mobile gigs.

As for the personal appearance, it comes down to what image you want to portray and what type of gigs you do. For something like a wedding or engagement party you need to go as formal as you're comfortable with. For house parties or 21st you can get away with being more casual. Same for club work.

Lighting - I use a t-bar and it's done me well. All depends on how many effects you want to run I guess.
