So ive just come back from seeing Tantrum Desire at Chinese Laundry and i cant sleep for shit, still got LOTS of energy. So i figured id write up a little blog of the nights adventures. I also figured that other people could post up their outings and do a review on people they have recently seen (going down to the pub and picking up some chick doesnt count, try keep it as a gig review :thumright: )

Chinese Laundry - Tantrum Desire

11:30- get there and sank a few beers before they started. had a lolly at about 12 and headed into the landry at 1230 to get a decent spot for Tantrum

The guy mixing before (think it was A-Tonez) was a fucking weapon on the decks, heaps clean mixes, building the energy in the room perfectly and dropped some absolute bangers!

1:00 - Tantrum come on, only one dude was mixing (Devon) and started straight away with dropping some awesome tracks. HOWEVER, after mixing 2 or 3 songs (perfectly i might add) the new song would drop, he would let it play for a bar then pause it do some stupid fking annoying backspin (as if he was searching back through the track) and then play the song from the start. When i first heard it i thought it might been a mistake but it kept happening again and again. The only reason i can think of him doing that is that they wanted to promote their own songs, so they would let the drop drop and then pause the song and let it play from the start in its entirety. Either way, it was a pain cause he was mixing flawlessly and building hte room to such an intensity, and just as peoples heads were about to explode he would kill the music and play it from the beginning.

Would love to hear you opinions on this sort of idea to promote tracks?

Apart from all that though it was a pretty sweet set. Unfortunetly after about 1.5hr into their set, the power seemed to cut out and the whole place went dead which was a definite mood kill.

So for all the good there was some bad. My mate was racking up in the bathrooms and a security guard popped his head of the cubical and saw him. Basically the security took his ID and said 'give me $100 if you want your ID back' after some negotiations my mate haggled down to $70, but he had to go up to an ATM, withdraw the cash and hand it over to the seccy just to get his ID back. I think that sort of behaviour is fucking unacceptable personally, but at the same time my mate was in the wrong, even though everyone was on something pretty much. would love to hear your opinions on this one aswell

Anyway, thats the end of my ramblings for now, i think i covered everything :):yahoo:

short and sweet

i like it!

yea like it was good that the seccy didnt hand in to the cops, but like... they had a system going, cause i was watching them rest of the night, they were following people in to the toilets with the pure intention of catching them and blackmailing them.

pretty common with the bouncer behaviour, id rather pay a fee and know i wont get kicked out of the venue mid set or get charged with use and have drug abuse on my record.

Bouncers get paid fuck all and have to deal with every stupid fuckwit in the club, its no wonder they do stuff like this and in the end its win win, you dont get fucked over, bouncers make some extra coin if you're careless, you go back out and enjoy the night

yer i'd pay a bouncer 100 bucks any night of the week, as opposed to getting handed into the cops and have that against my record for ages.

need to keep them police checks and working with children checks legit for work

Alternatively just leave the club (if it's crap anyway) they cant detain you at all man, i did that at home once got caught seccys started all the bullshit just said whatever im leaving anyway.

Really do hate the stupid stuff like those back spins you mentioned, everyone will like different stuff but i prefer spot on quick mixing with mash ups and stuff going on as opposed to backspins and fucking around with the songs too much.

Sounds like a good night out was heading in myself but got stuck at work, stupid sick bitch lol

Never heard of any nightclub seccy making anything close to that, that's just under what I clear a week (2.3k a week) and I'm out on site

Yeah any bouncer in the city is on pretty good money, if it means not getting kicked out then fair enough but otherwise its pretty scummy the blackmailing. I know alot of bouncers who wouldnt even tempt it.

In the ways of the back spinning I've known a few big time dj's to do that, I know N-Type does it way too much, and have also heard Gridlok do it a few times aswell, usually it's to get the crowd goin

Not showing off or anything

I'm on pittance compared to the guys I work with, I also work 60-80hrs a week plus full time study, and live in the arsehole of australia to get a semi decent wage, I'm not embarrassed to say what I earn because i fucking work for it

Yeah...saw some back spinning last night and it didn't always seem to work. Just seems a crude way of getting the crowds attention.

Indeed, if I ever made it big like that you would never see it from me :P
