Use of pop filter on mic?

Does anybody use a pop filter on their mic, and does it help with reducing background sound?

Thinking of getting this:

+ a shure sm 58 and a stand.

Mainly for talking on the radio and shit.

Thoughts?

The empty cup uses 1 at the BYP all the time, im assuming it does help slightly

there used to catch any accidental spitting on the mic arnt they? if you constantly get told to say it don't spray it probably a worth while investment

Pop filters are to stop the 'pop' effect you get by shooting air out of your mouth at high velocity into the mic (specifically on 'p', 't' and 's' sounds). A good pop filter won't change the background noise at all, so this isn't what you want.

So it would be worth getting to make my speech sound less retarted, but not much/not at all with noises going on in the background.

If you have a studio condenser microphone it's not really going to help with background noise as they are made to pick up ever single soundit can hear, for instance I've recorded with mine only to find you can hear a dog barking in the background down the street

A pop filter is there to do basically what it's name says, stops the pops of your P's, and T's, cuts back the hisses of your S's slot as well

As for a live microphone I think it could cut out some background noise as they are very directional from the middle of the mic

up until Saturday I never needed a pop filter but I will be getting some soon as people who are drunk think it's "Cool" to breath into the microphone at 100km/h
