  1. My mixing is pretty poor in this one and I don't expect to get any votes . Just wanted to share some good remixes with you guys
  2. Hey guys. I'm very keen to get into production and have been looking at a few DAW's, particularly Logic, Cubase & Ableton Live. I have done a little research and have got the following impression: Ableton: Fun! Unparalleled for live performance. Its workflow allows ideas to be captured quickly and easily. Can get claustrophobic composing in a projects with a large number of tracks. Logic: Serious conventional DAW good for composing, mixing and completing songs. Comes shipped with some quality plugins. Cubase: Similar to logic but can run on Windows as well as OSX. Some have suggested that it suffers performance issues on OSX (this may have been fixed now with patches ect.) I was wondering if any of you can offer some insight from your experience with these products. (edit) I am leaning towards logic since I have a Mac and already have a setup for performing DJ sets ect...
  3. Allowing remix selection was a brilliant idea. Every mix is interesting in its own way
  4. Its the opposite for me. I found touching the side of the platter to slow the incoming track is a lot easier and more forgiving than speeding it up by spinning the spindle. If i need to speed it up i use the pitch as was mentioned above. To ensure its thrown accurately in the first place I get into the rhythm by moving the incoming record back and forward over the cue point to the existing track's beat about 8 beats before the drop or "1".
  5. Its a good thing you came here for a second opinion. Your friend's "Pioneer ONLY" advice doesn't apply to every situation and you certainly shouldn't limit yourself. In regards to CDJ vs Controller, the current CDJ trend in clubs may change by the time you are ready to play in them. I wouldn't get too concerned about what the clubs use just yet. As a beginner your focus should be learning the basics on reliable gear. House parties are an excellent way to build your soft skills (reading the crowd, setting the right mood, composing a flowing set). Controllers are perfect for house parties as they're easy to transport and they don't take up too much space. As mentioned above, there are better controllers than others so continue doing your research while you save the cash. If you find that you love and have a talent for DJ'ing and want to pursue venues, you can then determine what gear is used and upgrade accordingly.
  6. done Mitch. http://soundcloud.com/chrismak/adjf-remix-your-heart-out
  7. Wish i remembered to take my headphones to work today. Will have to check out some of the submissions when I get home. Mine was a rush job as well....not as tight as I would like it to be. Should have started earlier but oh well. It all good fun
  8. http://soundcloud.com/mitch_fudd/adjf-mix-your-heart-out-comp I'm going to sound like I'm nitpicking since your mix was actually pretty solid. I have to give you something you can work on though - The first transition sounds a little rough to me. The tracks felt like they didn't fit throughout the transition and the outgoing track fade out was more noticeable because of this. This is just my opinion though and others might disagree with me. - Your second last track "sunrise" dragged on a bit at the end and I felt some energy was lost. You did acknowledge it with your "semi disaster" comment though. All is forgiven - Beatmatching was mostly tight. - Loved your third transition. It was my favorite part of the mix. Right tracks, right phrases, good vibe Good work. Votes were well deserved. Might have to organize a battle with ya soon.
  9. Thanks for the feedback Mitch....much appreciated. Its easy to blindly love your own work and overlook some faults. Will listen to yours and give feedback. From what I remember it was pretty solid.
  10. Diverse selection of tracks and smooth flowing mix. My foot was tapping away the entire time
  11. I thought I would start a separate thread and hopefully get some constructive feedback for my submission for the Mix Your Heart Out comp.
  12. Hey Cupe. Could I have my name changed to chrismak? Cheers.
  13. Hard to vote guys. Solid mixing here.
  14. Congrats lurk6r on your winning mix. Thanks to those who listened and voted. And well done Cap for organizing this comp. Looking forward to the next comp
  15. Mate........I am loving this mix.
  16. Both excellent submissions guys. I can't fault either of them.
  17. The reason I left these out is so people listen to the entire mix instead of just skipping to the transitions. But I guess that's shooting myself in the foot if people don't listen to it due to missing transition markers.
  18. Perhaps the play counts will go up when the voting polls open. I've played all submissions but will probably play them again to to refresh my memory before voting. I think we should encourage non-contestants to listen (and ultimately vote) by offering rep for constructive feedback. [edit] i just realised that our rep system is not functional yet
  19. Official moderators.
  20. Monthly mix competitions where the winner gets predetermined rep. Donate function returned.
  21. My intention from the beginning was to be reasonable with pricing. Those tricks weren't necessary, at least not here on ADJF.
  22. Would you think differently if it were a black man using the term. You hear them say it all the time and no one cries 'racism'. If the intention isn't racism, it isn't racism.
  23. Like I said. No hurry guys. Let it sink in sol. You change your mind about what you're buying every other day. And It's not fair if the highest bidder misses out.
  24. no worries foolish. the mix is now downloadable. enjoy [edit] the download button is still greyed out for my embeded mix in http://www.ausdjforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=6985. The soundcloud embed code is static. But you can download it from the direct soundcloud link http://soundcloud.com/chrismak/mix-your-heart-out-comp
