1. There is no formula you should be following as gospel. 2. PLAN your mix. Experiment at first and note down what works well and what doesn't. 3. Consider mashing up tracks instead of 'song 1 outro -> song 2 intro' mixing. Keep your listeners on their toes. 4. You don't have to select bangers from the Beatport top 10 list that every DJ and their dog are going to use. 5. Utilize Acapellas. Perhaps from classic tracks that everyone knows but neglected to think about using. 6. Begin with a cool sample that will grab attention.

I first became interested in Trance back in 2000 while still in Highschool and came to appreciate House later on in 2004 when I first hit the club scene. A few years ago I had a couple of mix sessions at one of my old workmates place. He had a DJM800 and two CDJ1000 MK3's. I tried to mix tracks together with just crossfading but sounded rough as I had no idea about beat matching. I was overwhelmed by all the controls but facinated at the same time. My interest in DJ'ing wasn't to be cool or the center of attention, but to fulfil my curiosity with how everything worked and experience what it felt like to make a mix that sounded smooth and flawless (with the music i loved obviously). So I Started saving some cash and doing research on gear. My first setup 2009: Allen & Heath Xone-92 (second Hand) 2x Pioneer CDJ1000 MK2's (second hand) Sennheiser HD25 II 2x Behringer Truth B2031A's (second hand) It didn't take long for me to learn how to beatmatch reasonably, and phrase matching came easy because I had a decent grasp of the typical trance/house structrue from all those years of listening. I started to notice that some older tracks I really wanted were available only on vinyl, and also became curious with what the difference was mixing with CDJ's & turntables. Since my mixer had more than enough channels I started looking out for some second hand Technics. Early 2010: 2x Technics SL1200MKII (second hand) About 70 Hard Trance Vinyl's (second hand) to get me started. Although it was harder than mixing with CDJ's, I started to love the feel of mixing with vinyl as it was as if I was physically controlling the music. The trouble was that vinyl is significantly more expensive than digital tracks and I started to consider Digital Vinyl Systems such as Traktor & Serato. Late 2010: Traktor Scratch Pro with Kontrol X1 By this time I was rocking the odd house party but the speakers I had just weren't cutting it. I had the thirst for crisp highs and chest thumping bass. Time for some decent sound Early 2011: 2x JBL PRX 635 JBL PRX 618S-XLF Recently I wanted to get more serious with production so... Late 2011: Maschine Komplete 8 Suite Logic Studio 9 At the moment I still have all the above mentioned gear, doing the odd house party, weekend mix sessions and teaching myself how to produce. It's an expensive hobby but a very fun one nonetheless.

Yeah I assumed you could get gigs no problem.
-
If your expected profits from gigs outweigh the interest paid for the gear then go for finance.

Perhaps you should consider buying a legit copy. That way you can get support from Native Instruments.
-
@ OP, Do you own a legit copy of Traktor Pro 2

Sounds like the resume is just a formality. It would be worth describing previous experiences that highlight qualities and technical skills that are relevant to what you are doing. Example generic qualities: professionalism, take great pride in what you do, clearly understanding requirements & delivering solutions, dealing with unexpected issues.

I was like Holy shit harsh!!!.. then it clicked that chris was talking about the video lol... unless he was talking about Lurk6r, then this wpuld be really awkward Haha yeah I was talking about the video.

It may have something to do with the new timecode MK2 that gets shipped with Traktor now (probably ultra sensitive). i wouldn't worry too much since 0.02 is nothing. if the flicker itself annoys you then you can remove the BPM display.

his transitions are terrible. no flow whatsoever.

That's just it. Best way to build rep is to get involved with the community and pay your dues.

Master tempo/keylock fixes this? It also degrades the quality of the audio...at least in the older hardware. Perhaps they have better master tempo/ keylock processing algorithms in the latest cdj's and traktor software...I haven't tried it yet.
-
I haven't considered mixed in key since the key always changes if you move the pitch off '0'. Makes more sense to let your ears decide if the tracks sound well together.
-
As mentioned, stick to what you've been doing when playing live. That's what they will be expecting. They wouldn't have asked you otherwise. Continue building your crowd reading / set building skills when you're playing out. Maybe get yourself some cdj's and work on the more technical skills at home.

What to do in this situation, Trying to resolve it politely.

that explains a lot. no point getting annoyed at 15yo girls for acting like 15yo girls. seems like you handled it right [edit] part of being a professional is dealing with those who are unprofessional. you'll often be in these situations so you may as well start getting used to it. don't let these kind of people get to you because you'll eventually give up booking gigs because you hate the bullshit. -
Go for it mate. I think they have 1 more available. They may restock though.
