Yea i know a guy who died down on it in melb, apparently its a much bigger problem down in melb though (i havent come across it too much up in syd) apart from people dieing (which is terrible) but it is also ruining the night scene. I cant rmeber hte name of it nut there used to be an awesome trance event that came to syd and melb, and they basically boycotted Aus cause people down in melb were getting too fucked up on G. Its only a matter of time before it starts effecting clubs

Does anybody want to help me start off as a DJ?
mattus123 replied to MintyCondition's topic in DJ Headquarters
if thats the case you wouldnt be allowed to go with mates into a club anwyay ur best bet, is jsut practice ur skills at home -
just hire the gear dude unless you start gigging every weekend its not really worth to buy imo just get the party host to pay for speaker hire and ur good to go. as an indication of price, those JBLs go for about 900 each im pretty sure, so ur getting like 3k worth of equipment for 140 bucks. on a quick side not.. having hte sub included may be over kill. obviously it depends on the space your playing in, but ive played an out door party for about 100 people and did it with the $80 hire set from DJwarehouse (just 2 speakers) and it was more than enough

First gig... for over 600 people!

at that age u gotta remember not everyone wants to hear festival music. If its a carnival there iwll be parents and teachers who will want to hear something a bit more old school this means youll be mixing a shit load of genres from rock to house, pop to jazz. id probably try split the crowd up into 3 or 4 groups of differing genres and play to all of them... maybe 4 songs per group or something like that? As have been mentioned before, this will most likely be background music, so id advise to stock up on tech/deep mixed in with pop classics -
Hey ladies, I got a mate selling 2x CDJ850s and i told him id post up some ads for him they are in good condition, and have only been owned for like 4 months. reason for selling is he already has turntables and serato so has no need for them, which im guessing he has learnt the hard way after buying them. He still has the box they came in and recipts with warranty

im gonna go to the interview as a duo, with some big titted blonde watch how i get accepted, while all the actual other aspiring DJs with talent miss out in all seriousness ill be entering this year, i know a few people who have been in it before and it really helped them network and get gigs

in all honesty i couldnt imagine u getting to much out of going with friends and watching them.. no more than jsut watching another Dj in the booth. If you were really keen, next time u go out jsut watch what the DJ does for 20 mins, in alot of clubs u can see what the DJ is doing without going directly into the booth and harassing him/her As terms of skills needed.. the skills needed to DJ a club are pretty much the exact same as the skills needed to DJ a bedroom, except for reading the crowd.. but that skill can only really be learnt with practice not really by watching someone else -
another sick track, will definetly be playing this on the weekend (Gremm1s i call shot gun on this one aswell )
-
the moment you start charging entry, it becomes a completely different ballgame and you need to get insurance and all that jizz im sure if u asked for a donation, that would be a way around it as for the whole warehouse party idea, i know people who have tried them here in syd and they got shut down pretty quickly. might even be worth contacting your local police station about it to see what they say about laws and all that jizz
-
no one googles Djs though, they'll facebook/soundcloud them.. in which case ur sweet even so, as safari zone your still new so even if i was to google it nothing will come up bar ur soundcloud and facebook. when ur #bigtime when some poor kid tries googleing safari zone to get infos on his pokemon, he'll be swarmed with pages of this sick DJ What do you think would have showed up if you googled 'swedish house mafia' before they started up.. probs lots of random shit about gangs and shootings Safari Zone

How do different DJ's/Producers stand out?
mattus123 replied to MintyCondition's topic in DJ Headquarters
but even acts like daft punk, djs from mars, deadmau5 would all still have a strong following whether they had gimmicks or not i have never come across someone who has said 'i liek that guy cause he DJs with a mouse head'... its always more like 'i fkin love deadmau5, also prety cool he Djs with a mouse head' as for getting extra recognition... as a DJ the ONLY recognition that should matter is from your playing ability. id much rather have only 20 people know about me, but know me for my music, than 100 people who know me as that dude who wears a stupid mask.. but thats just me -
if i was to road trip up, recon i could crash on someone's floor? dont have the funds for plane/accom, but dont wanna miss out either

Whens his next gig? as for OP, all that was mentioned are gimmicks, and gimmicks dont work unless u already have strong foundations. As already stated, the successfulness of those artists comes from their music, not from their gimmicks -
Also make sure you dont have the bass on both channels way up, u really only want to have the bass of one track playing at a time

What is the most popular genre for the club scene
mattus123 replied to CapFive's topic in DJ Headquarters
ive gone other aswell i think a combination of commercial and good electro tunes is the way to go. Throwing in the occasional well known dub or dnb track could also go down well, but to make an exclusive night for it could either go awesome, or fail (especially with well established competition from chinese laundry and world bar on wed)... electro and commercial is safer -
a bit of a guide for you guys (effects, cue and hot cues)
mattus123 replied to lloydc's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
Gremm1s has it. its just a quick way to sample vocals. he was also using 2 different samples, one which was assigned to hot cue 'c' and the other which was assigned to hot cue 'b'. pressing the hot cue started the sample, and pressing the cue button ended it by bringing the track to the original cue point (which happened to be the start of the track)
