DJ Competition at UNSW Roundhouse - Support me!
mattus123 replied to mattus123's topic in DJ Headquarters
read ur thread about better thread titles after i posted this one sorry mang -
Hey lads, I'm going in the unsw dj comp tomorrow and would love anyone's support that can afford to give it. I get on the decks at 645, possibly earlier, but will be there from about 5 to have some beverages before hand. The prizes for this one are pretty sweet, so really want to win. And part of the criteria is bringing a crowd and pleasing the audience Hopefully I see some of you boys there! It's at the unsw roundhouse
-
That's sweet thanks boys Ill run it through rekordbox and use usbs as planned, and trust the read out I guess It's at times like these I wish I had 2000s
-
Ah k, but the 2000s will be reliably inaccurate aswell?

Hey just wondering how the 2000s compare to the 1000s in terms of detecting bpm. I know they display it more accurately by showing 2 decimal places, but A little curious about detection My reason for asking is that I'm going in a dj comp so ill need to mix fast, which basically means ill be relying on the bpm reader a bit more than usual. I know some of my tracks show different bpm readings at different points in the track on my 1000s, which doesn't bother me. What concerns me more is that the 2000s will be more accurate and show a more consistent bpm, which I won't be used to For example, right now track a is at 140 bpm and track b is at 140 but the CDJ displays it as 141, I account for that knowing that reading of 1 over is accurate, but this will throw me if it isn't the same case with the 2000s. Hope that makes sense Cheers fellas

Hey guys ive always been wondering about the accuracy of the key that is displayed on beatport, so i emailed them. I basically asked whether they use software to detect it or if they get the artist to submit the key and bpm along with their track. this is the answer i received: 'Hi, Thanks for getting in touch with us. Unfortunately, most BPM and Key detection software is not 100% accurate. We are still refining ours. If you find a track that is marked incorrectly, you can leave a comment here: http://beatport.uservoice.com/forums/12 ... ng-tracks- Please feel free to contact us again if you have any additional questions or concerns.' so by the looks of it that key that is displayed isnt gospel just thought you boys would be interested to hear this one if you didnt already know

yea i dunno if i can agree with him on all of that
-
i remember he used to be resident DJ at greenwood when i was a teenbopper 18 year old attending the good ol greenwood thursdays and i distinctly remember every set being the same week in and week out
-
that interview doesnt really explain shit doesnt even explain which song he is refferring too. It sounds like he's referring to the arty and mat zo track, yet both of those artists have said that they didnt know he was doing what he was doing and didnt give him permission to use their song. doesnt even begin to account for his use of the 'epic' drop edit: i did not expect him to sound like that
-
if your opening, then some deep stuff is probs good, or even funky house.. love a good bit of funky house you can get away with electro aswell, just keep it in the time slot.. for example something like mogui - mpire could go down well towards the end of the set (obviously if u think the crowd is heading towards that direction
-
NICE!! i might be judging you whats your dj name? in response to the original post, track selection is VERY important DO NOT start dropping heavy trap and dubstep at 9:00 find the right right tracks to fit the mood of the crowd, and jsut focus on your mixing, keep it tight and try be creative (ie not jsut mixing from the intro of the track), if you can.. however, if this will result in sloppy trans, then jsut stick to what you know i also recommend going down to the other comp heats to support the night and be apart of it. Also have a chat with steveen (the guy running it), he's a really top bloke, no need to be a kiss ass, just introduce yourself and be friendly. And me! introduce yourself to be me!!! At the end of the day knowing him wont be what gets you through the comp (that will purely come down to your skills as a DJ), but it is a good thing to start getting in the habbit of, as this industry is very heavily based on knowing people.. and you cant know people before u meet them

Why even major label artists rarely make $ from album sales
mattus123 replied to Cupe's topic in DJ Headquarters
To be honest that sounds like fucking bullshit to me. Given that the source may/may not be credible in regards to this information, I refuse to believe they received nothing from those sales. im inclined to think the same way they wouldnt keep producing tracks/ writting songs if they were gonna lose money on it -
i dunno.... i kinda feel as if pitbull still holds that title

mattus123 replied to Cupe's topic in DJ Headquarters
fuck that if that's actually how it is, id rather just give the artists 20 bucks for his tracks and cut out the middle man altogether -
thats a good point actually itd be pointless going with aiff unless all my tracks were aiff soundcloud downloads would defs throw that outta blance
-
ahhh didnt think of that one
-
jsut got an email saying i can upgrade all my tracks to AIFF for a disowhaleed fee whats your opinions on this? is it worth it for just a club sound system? also.. why the hell do they charge more for a lossless file, the original file is most likely lossless, so extra steps are needed to convert it to mp3... if anything mp3 should be more expensive due to extra steps in creating it
-
yea dont tihnk its a subgenre, just one off tracks kind of how major lazer did that jamacian feel with their tracks.. u wouldnt call them jamican electro or anything though fucking awesome tracks though
-
those synths are fucking nuts!!!!!!!

mattus123 replied to russell's topic in DJ Headquarters
thats a good idea, might do that i have the same problem as Gremm1s with the earplugs, the sticky out bit hits the inside of my cans and pushed them too far into my ear (can feel them hitting my ear drum or something) as for wearing them in clubs.. i do it all the time. my friends give me shit for it, but the next morning they are hte ones with ringing ears and im not I also think i can hear the music clearer aswell, and can hear people speak better aswell definetly can recommend -
