Yea that makes sense Jaz that was whatr i was trying to imagine; how it woudl go in a live setting...but cause ive had no expeerience playing live yet, i thought id ask you guys the onyl reason i thought indexing on a piece of paper woudl be helpful would be cause its easy to track down the song, even though it involves an extra step using ur example..if im looking for 'one more time'. rather than flicking thorugh my cd collection tryin to find hte cd with 'one more time' written on it. Id refer straight to me list which is alphabetical order, see that that track is on CD 5, for example. then straight away go to CD 5 (the CD's would be in my folder in order) if that makes more sense or do u still tihnk it'd be too time consuming? cheers
-
i tihnk i remeber being on the forum when someone posted the video of van buuren's interview and him sayin he only uses 1 CD per track, which caused alot of people to give it a go what i was thinking of doing is labeling my CD's (which contain different tracks) 1, 2, 3 etc and then havin a seperate piece of paper which listys ALL of my songs in alphabetical order, with all track info such as BPM, track length, key. And which CD it is on so id jsut look through the index for the song, and then find what cd it is on using hte list or do you guys think this is a bad idea/waste of time?

so im making new playlists on CDs with 5 tracks per cd im only labelling each CD: 1, 2, 3 etc etc do u reocn i should write track names on the CD, or make little pieces of paper with CD info for each indiviual CD, or index all of the tracks with track info on a piece of paper and refer the track back to which CD/s its on. OR a combination of the 3 jsut tryin to find the most efficient way of doing it, hope u guys can shed some light cheers

if you have a CDJ mode u can use that to cue accuratly aswell in CDJ mode wen u pause the song (where you wanna set your cue), u will hear it stuttering...just move tte platter to the start of the beat (where the stuttering JUST stops), set you cue point there. and u got urself a perfect cue

Ive got the hang of beatmatching! now, what songs to pick
mattus123 replied to SolDios's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
yea u can pretty much mix anything if track a is busy thou, make sure the transition in track b is simple, otherwise it could sound a bit messy -
i second WholePunch play on words are awesome
-
if u have a BPM counter, put some blutack over em so cant see i did that, best decision i have ever made now i can beatmatch within bout 20 secs also...trust your ears
-
haah yea ive tried that one i always find there is the bit between the 4bar loop (for example) and hte constant noise, that just sounds terrible and sloppy guess i gotta practise gettin from hte loop to the constant noise a bit quicker

can you give advise for what mixer to buy please
mattus123 replied to PyroclasticMix's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
i can vouch for the zone:22, unfortunetly i cant compare it to much else as this is hte first mixer ive owned as for you saying that the downside is that there isnt many effects, im not so sure that is much of a downside. If there are no effects on the mixer it will prevent you from gettin caught up with using effects, and force you to learn to mix properly...which alot of the guys on here iwll tell you is a good idea anyway i certianly have no regrets about not having effects on my mixer -
thats given me some new things to try ill give em a go now also that whole listneing to the outro of a song, i suppose that only applies if u plan on playing that particualr track to the outro ey? cheers guys
-
haha i definetly wasnt complaining, ill probs stick with it untill/if it breaks solid tip, thanks cant believe i hadn't thought of doing that, coulda saved myself ALOT of shithouse transitions
-
haha you hear it in clubs and the effects start off sounding cool but after a solid hour of hearing em it gets really frustrating ey i dont really have the option of using effects anyway, on my mixer (xone:22) all i got is a high/low pass filter
-
yea ive been doing that a bit actually. works on some songs..absolute train wreck on others thansk guys ill give some of them a try im usin CDJs and i got no effects on my mixer, so im limited to the basic stuff...i just wanna get pro at the basic before i think bout effects like echos n all that jazz
-
Hey guys ive been mucking around with my DJin and i got my beatmatching close to perfect (can beatmatch a song within bout 20 seconds, give or take) but im kinda stuck on different ways to transition the songs at the moment ill either do a quick fader slam or gradually fade in song b and fade out song a, or use the backspin on the outgoing track...but after an hour of mixing this kinda gets a bit boring just wondering if you guys might know of nay other techniques and when would be a good time to use em cheers guys!

make sure you get a power supply with the 1TB harddrive aswell cause those things drain power from ur laptop if using one and are much slower without the power supply
