  1. i imagine melbourne would be similar to syd find a club you think you would be interested in playing at, go down there often and start becoming a familiar face. slowly get to meet the promoters, and they'll be able to point u in the direction of who to talk to about getting gigs. Ive found that contacting a promoter isn't too helpful, unless they are quite high up on hte food chain (which they often arent). Alot of the promoters here in syd just put shit up on facebook and rock up to the club all the time, they dont actually have much pull with the higher ups though (obviously not all promoters, but some)
  2. worthy of funny thread though OP: YSM is the only Tasmanian on here that i know of, and odds are against you of him being close enough to give lessons. There is other ways we can help thou Definitely have a look at the post Cupe linked you to I also recommend watching this one as i find it really explains beat matching in a way that will make more sense than anyone else will be able to explain it (i also reccomend watching more of ellaskins vid's) Also, after playing around with ur decks for a bit, make up a mini mix (even if its only like 4 songs or so) and whack it up on the forum and we'll be able to give you feedback and help goodluck with it all mate, and welcome to the forum
  3. ^I was only just thinking this I could never imagine myself getting up to a DJ booth and asking them to play some song, like what gives me the right? kinda seems a bit.... self centered?
  4. i really wanan go, non of my mates wanan go with me still working on persuading them, when i do illl let u know
  5. its probs the mic ur using, it probably requires a higher power source than what ur mixer is providing i had this issue before, then bought a cheap mic and it worked perfectly
  6. this kinda just makes him seem like even more of a whale just because he doesnt DJ, he's basically taking away all credit from those who actually DO DJ
  7. Hey hey i think its time i upgrade from my 2ch mixer and am looking into a 4ch one. Ive started playing at clubs which so far have all used DJM800s which is pretty much my sole reason for wanting an 800; so i can familiarize myself with it. On further thinking of it though, i can really buy any mixer and if i really want, just hire a DJM800 and practice on it so i know whats all going on with it. So the question becomes, should i go with a used DJM800 (will make sure its in good condition; will try get for $800 or so) or a new DNX1600. Also happy for other to chuck in other suggestions, keeping in mind that my budget is around the 1k mark, im happy to buy 2nd hand cheers
  8. Found one in Syd for 1.1k do u tihnk offering 800 is a lowball?

  21. ur over half way there mate u can pick up a cheap 2 channel mixer to get you started if your looking at clubs i would definetly recommend using CDs after an experience seeing some DJs try and set up their equipment in the middle of my set, i am forever turned off using that equipment in a club. long story short, the music got cut out for a solid couple of mins
