Well, first up, don't think the Thumps are going to perform anywhere near the PRX line will. For starters, the Thumps are rated at 121dB peak, whilst the PRX515 is rated at 133dB. That's a sizable difference, particularly if you are noticing you need to drive them hard for your gigs. I have heard people are happy with the Thumps for what they are and I've seen it suggested as a good first speaker system buy, but yeah, nothing on the PRX 500 or 600 line.

Cheap-ish Speakers and Sub for 100-200 people?

Did I scare everyone off with my physics teacher voice? -
Yeah, that is when insurance will come in handy. But you most certainly pay for that. (My public liability and equipment insurance came up last week. Sad times in my bank account)

Cheap-ish Speakers and Sub for 100-200 people?
andythemusician replied to Dibbo's topic in Amps & Speakers
Reason is that the lower the frequency, the longer the wavelength. For example, 100Hz is about 3.5m for a full wave to develop. 20Hz is 17m or so. So if you are in a room that is only 4m long, then you are only going to hear frequencies above about 80Hz. For those playing at home, I'm talking about sine waves. The formula is based on the speed of sound at a normal temperature (as the change of temperature alters the speed of sound as it modifies the air). -
Setting up midi controllers without Audio interfaces.

Yeah, as wazza said, you just assign all the audio outputs and or inputs (if you are going to use DVS) to the Audio 8. -

Assign the MIDI control to the MPD26 and the audio ins and outs to the Audio8 I guess? Both are two different pieces of gear that do two different things, so the software shouldn't get confused - it'll probably automatically assign them right. I probably just don't understand the question -
Lighting Lab - www.lightinglab.com.au PA People - www.clearsystems.tv $120 would be a good deal per night for all of that I am thinking. Half of that would be speakers plus stands alone.

I have a 15" screen and I think it's a great size. Any smaller and I think I'd find myself leaning over to the screen too much. As it is, I find I can have Traktor's playlist large enough for my liking, as well as having the decks large enough to read detail standing away from it. Haven't tried it on a smaller computer though. Although I'm sure you'd end up getting used to whatever you used in the end.

Having some issues using a laptop when playing out.
andythemusician replied to fackedd's topic in Computer Corner
Somethings electromagnetic interference can come into effect - so possibly the speaker's magnet is not doing the computer much good. Try moving that and see how you go. -
Glad to hear the first gig went really well! See, your first time isn't that scary...

What's the word Sol? How did you go?
-
Yeah, maybe think of a set of cans that have the single side cable - otherwise you get tangled and puts strain on the cable join, leading to the left side breaking down as eggs said.
-
Good luck!

Mmm, valves... haha!

That sounds like something Mackie/LOUD has used when advertising the SRM450. I remember seeing it in the manual or promo sheets or something. Not sure I agree though - line arrays are trapezoidal in design (not curved), yet are used for shows that require decent coverage and SPL.

Laser puts record data rate through fibre

That's some pretty impressive shit. -
You get what you pay for. Without having heard said speakers before but knowing the standard, my answer would be: they are not going to blow your mind (or your wallet) - they will probably do for a standard house party where no one really gives a crap. But I would not rely on them for large functions or weddings.
-
Your current setup will do you fine. Don't buy shit just for the sake of buying shit. Trust me, I've been there. Basically, you end up buying crap because you just lashed out instead of doing research and making sure you are future proofing.

Only if she was hot
-
What was the gig?
-
You want sing-a-long and Aussie? You're The Voice - John Farnham. This shit goes off at almost every party I've done - big circles, arms round each others shoulders, screaming the lyrics.
-
I would if i could, she's hot.
-
Yeah, but its not about people concentrating on the lights. Its about creating atmosphere that will suit and enhance the music. And I have to say strobes, lasers and smoke machines are not the only answer for every gig!

How annoying is it.... (post your complaints here)

Yeah I reckon... for weddings none the less... you'd think you'd want it to go shibby and sweet... But lets not pay the guy running the music and MCing the night well - its not like he has to meet with us a few times, liaise with the venue, organise the whole evening, bring his entire kit and then maybe play a few tunes? Nah, the iPod will do that for me -

How annoying is it... When people underestimate the amount of work you do by setting their "budget" way below their expectations. Seriously. 5 hour gig is like 10 hours of work for me, you need to take into consideration the trailer load to equipment I bring with me. Bleh.
