forget the comp - i want to know where that awesome bear is

my wife keeps wanting to throw it out cos I almost never use it, I just like having it around. have to get some more tobacco for it cos it's very relaxing to smoke, and I hate normal smoking. had trouble explaining it to the guy in customs tho, he had no clue what it was, I ended up telling him it was a big bong, he said to see his manager, his manager just looked at him like he was a clueless idiot and waved me through.

been stuck with work all day so will try this next day I'm working from home, probably thursday. Next time someone asks me to take over go-live cover for their work, but they promise to be available for issues I will be saying no. they turned their phone off all weekend and again today.

that really sucks, but it's why dealing with companies that come with a good reputation is imprtant. how did you find these clowns inthe first place?

tried again later last night, not optimal computer setup but worked ok. I was running traktor scratch pro with 4 decks, plus running the output from the mixer in via another sound card on the same computer. that soundcard was only plugged in via a hub on my external hard drive as I'd run out of on-board usb ports. A friend in south africa could tune in ok., well enough to complain about my choice in music. all up a pretty simple process though, will try again probably on monday for a lunchtime set and ask folks to log in and check the quality.

tehehe, I'm looking up my skype contacts to find who I can ask - trouble is they're all either colleages who know I should be working now, or friends who i know couldn't log in at their work. will try agian later when I can get two laptops at home and can easily check it's working

I've spent a while now with traktor so time for short update. nice layout, with decent midi map it's easy to use 4 decks. Looping is good, effects are awesome. time code works perfectly on cd and vinyl, and yoiu can switch to internal mode at anytime to sync up automatically. downside - tempremental program. sometimes I open it nothing will play, close and re-open works fine. Moved the laptop today and the usb cable wobbled. After that all the buttons worked and moved menus but no audio until I shut down the program and restarted. and it takes ages to shut down as it updates a lot of stuff then. hopefully a couple more point releases and it'll all be good. I guess the best thing is it still feels like dj'ing with all the possibilities of software.

sorry, but that first picture makes it look like you're working in a travel agent or something, sitting in the corner there. looks like a nice venue for sunday beers.

the ikea expedit is a popular starting point for building a desk. add a laptop stand to that, maybe 2 for the effects unit as well. comes with plenty of record storage space also

you're going to pay a fortune for a dj-specific desk. I got mine second hand for $300 and it's perfect for the purpose, but no way would I fork out $7-800 that the original owner paid. what's the gear you are looking to load on it? dj warehouse has some but it's not cheap either

on line comp or in a club? if on-line prizes could be slots at a proper event.

the dj had a problem with security? you wore the wrong sort of shoes?

even if you're not playing the music you;d like, it's all experience playoing in public, reading a crowd etc. good luck with it

this is associated with a club night? how's it going to be judged? if you say open ended, but it's at a club with a given style, obviously dj's with similar genre will score better crowd reactions. anyway promote widely, since all those folks entered should be bringing their friends along too.

have you got any pictures of the inside? could it be an alternative to places like burdekin to hire for private parties?

doing a bit with the traktor demo - seems to be a problem with anyone trying to figure out how to sell me traktor pro with scratch without the soundcard, since this is a certified mixer. get a decent midi map to start with and it's awesome, looping and effects become much more instinctive so you really can make it up on the fly.

moved house to a bigger place so moved from the loungeroom to a spare bedroom. new mixer, desk and monitors. well desk and monitors were second hand, but you get the idea

basically a 19" djm600 with a few extra effects on the x-fader Currently got the rotary kit installed, but still have the linear faders and the extra set of eq knobs, only takes 10 minutes to swap rotary to linear and back. home use, still have the original cartons and manual asking $650 ono

Anyone got thoughts on these two? I was going to get ableton to team up with cdj/dvs for looping, layering etc. I'm perfectly happy with the DVS I have now (djdecks - shits on serato imo) and was just going to add ableton, then I saw traktor. cheaper by a fair bit since I have a certified mixer, beatgrids, effects, time code system so could be an all-in one offering. mix of Tcv's as well as midi control of other tracks. i guess I'm going to load demo versions of both and see how i get on.
