    Vinyl vs CD

DVS is a lot of fun, but also a massive pain in the ass to carry and setup and make sure all is working in a dark cramped place. some places are putting in serato boxes now so all you need it one usb cable, but then what if you use traktor or something else?

    Vinyl vs CD

there is no best out of this lot, only preference. Sure vinyl sounds better when new and clean, but records wear, get dusty etc, digital tracks will always sound as good as when you got them. some of my older records, and ones I've got second hand sound a bit dull now, partly from wear and partly cos that's just how older tracks were produced. Vinyl is much more involving to play on, but cd's are more accurate so you can spend more time on mixing rather than beatmatching. weight/convenience all go in favour of cd's, price it's an even thing between DVS and cd.
  4. only thing I can think to use is voice recorder on the mp3 layer, then mess with it thru kaoss pad. reminds me of a club I went to once, singer had the mike through a kp. and a live didgeridoo player. or I could just pay the $10 for someone to do it well
  5. kind of left field, but was just reading an article that the federal government wants to introduce a new royalty scheme for artists (the paint and canvas type), so they get paid every time their work is sold, not just what they get the first time they sell it. so you buy it from the artist, you pay. You sell it later, even if you lose money, you pay 5% of that sale price to the artist. Imagine if you had to do that when selling records. sounds like the sort of utter drivel peter garret is pushing since he got elected.
  6. not sure if it was peewee, might have been him who got busted with chris cross?? ,that was for selling cd's with unlicenced tracks on them, not promos or format shifting.
  7. red wone? ok, you've had enough.
  8. what license is that? what if a dj comes from the UK to australia does this mean to tour the country for 2 weeks he needs to pay $800 plus plus for 3 different licenses? the venue normally has the licence for public performance, though if you are a mobile dj and play in venues without this licence you need to get somewthing to cover it. I've yet to hear of anyone getting the format shift licence or being chased because they do not have it. I honestly wonder if it would stand up in court. it's a pretty pathetic cash grab from an industry with it's head firmly in the sand. I thought they tried this in uk and everyone ignored it?
  9. I can't do live after 8 anyway, little boy is in bed by then, so pre-recorded I can do. I guess I'll reschule mixing time to the weekends or week before so I can upload ahead of time
  10. think I'll re-use a term I came to enjoy on wednesday night outings little saturday
  11. sweet, I can listen in the loungeroom now
  12. I seethey are able to stream to all the media players, any chance they output thru shoutcast? would be good to be able to tune in away from the computer I went to shoutcast.com but couldn't find it in the search
  13. nice work, will be good to be able to upload pre-recorded stuff too, and to get to be part of a full-time station 630-8 on wednesdays is the time I'd like to continue with.
  14. went to another computer, all is well now. not a bad site, mostly cheaper than beatport. a few of the buttons are a little small (play/add) but all up seems pretty fast and nice to get around
  15. just tried to get in a few times, cannot get explorer to load properly and have to kill the window. my computers running like a dog today which is probably a large part of the problem, but all others sites are loading ok, just taking a while
  16. I saw a tv article recently about tapes, said it's kind of ironic that they got superceded just as they made some huge improvement in the quality, but there's still bands that do releases on tape
  17. sounds like a good gig, will try to tune in tonight
  18. in short, badly. I have a 320 disc wallet, front half is trance, back half progressive, but fpor a long time I'd burn discs that had some of each so finding tracks can be a bitch. now when I play a disc it goes in the back, so it kind of sorts itself a little into what I'm currently playing. Every now and then close up the gaps and move the empty pages to the back. using a dvs does make you lazy when it comes to burning discs, but still cd is so much simpler than setting up computer, soundcard, every time.
  19. sorry, been a bit slack lately but would be keen to continue a weekly slot. early evenings are best
  20. might be owrth mentioning taht when I bought my tt's from that same store, they offer a 1 month warranty on electrical stuff, always good to have buying stuff with unknown history
  21. factory sound is in melb but for $25 shipping it was worth it to save $500.
  22. jb hifi basically sell the pioneer stuff at cost price, sometimes below, and make their money on volume rebates from pioneer. Perhaps at the end of month or quarter, they might be chasing a rebate target so you coul dget a better deal? dj warehouse aren't always so great on price, I got $500 less for my mixer at factory sound.
  23. even with the sales, the wholesale price fo the 1000's is about $500 up on last year, they just don't have that much room to move now.serioulsy get on the phone and look for places with stock ordered a few months ago
  24. we're lucky it's taken this long for prices to go up, the dollar plunged massively last year. i'd look around a lot of shops and see if you get lucky, someone might have old stock that they bought at the lower price.
