  1. cdj's and tine code systems can be very useful. No need to burn cds, you get all the search, sort, tag options, the effects, looping, cues etc.
  2. I use it most of the time. Traktor is a cpu pig, so if you don't shut down as much background stuff as possible and have a decent computer you will get glitches. it's also nowhere near as reliable as some other packages, but is improving slowly. I mix about half on timecode, and half internally, with auto-matching. It might be considered lazy, but I can loop, layer and genreally screw around with the music that way. If i'm just mixing one track to the next, it not so much fun that way and I'll use timecode instead.

    dj comp

they may not be a perfect measure of the best dj but it's a nice way to get some experience in a real environment.
  4. are you planning to run just the tt's through the dvs and use audio cd's in the cd deck? or want time code on all 4 channels? or run a couple of channels internally in the software via midi, on top of the time code channels? do you want effects?
  5. dual cd decks still output the same as 2 separate decks so they'll work fine with any DVS application. traktor scratch duo will work fine and it's about $200 cheaper than serato. you get more features, better soundcard that the SL-1. with serato though, you get nice simple program that almost never fails
  6. not sure where people get the impressoin that mixing via midi means you are staring at your screen the whole time. I have every function mapped to my controller, so I look at screen to pick tracks (probably less time than flicxing through record crate or cd wallet), and to see the waveform, again no worse than looking at the record grooves to see what's coming up. the rest of the time, I'm working on the mixer Still when I'm at home I'll about half the time mix of time code vinyl as I find it more involving, other half trying to really mix it up over midi, that is not just 1 track to another. That is even more involving, but if you are just blending one track to the next it can be boring
  7. can you borrow one first? I found even when I did, getting levels right on the send/return was so annoying on my old djm3000, I stuck to the on board effects most of the time. though I would like a nice isolator
  8. one of my tt's took a tumble off a table. the only problem is that one of the rca plugs is now loose, the problem is in the plug that goes into the mixer. Anyone every try to re-solder the RCA plug to the cable? Should I take it to any old electronics store or just get the whole cable replaced, which means opening up the tt.
  9. I'll take 2 of everything, thanks
  10. low-mid, I recommend the dxm06. good value at that range. the ttm57 is a great mixer but restrictive as the serato box is built in so you can't use your software with any other mixer. better off getting the stand along serato that'll work with any mixer. maybe a bit more on the price range, low-mid price and the 57 don't seem in the same ball park

    HUge gig

have you asked the promoter what sort of stuff they expect? just cos it's G&L crowd doesn't mean they want kylie and crap.
  12. ableton has a decent demo you cna download and has lots of tutorials to help you get started and see what can be done
  13. i was trying adding it to squeezenetwork, maybe it tunes in a little different. i tried searching through shoutcast for it first, but the station didn't come up that way
  14. just went to add this but got invalid URL, removed the listen.pls and worked then.
  15. got rumours that the first run of cdj2000's are now in the country, no idea what they have
  16. djwarehouse sale this weekend has some good savings on traktor duo and pro, not sure about SL boxes tho
  17. pioneer do not make turntables and haven't for a long time. they sell one model in aus and NZ (DJ-3500) which is another manufacturer's tt rebadged. it's not sold anywhere else and is a low-mid range model.
  18. even more annoyed now, was nothing wrong with the mixer, the techie must have been ableton user, so he swapped some settings which meant trakotr behaved all wierd. couple of start options and all is well, so recording right now for this week
  19. can those little transmitters really be enough for several cars to pick up? on the original topic, commercial radio is always a long way behind on any EDM, the main damage they do is to bring a lot of idiots to festivals
  20. I'd make sure you mess about with it before you fork out. I borrowed a friends efx500 and found I did not use it that much, on board efx were more than enough for me, even the kp2 I already had I do not use that much. you could also look at a kp3, can get those new for $750, or even a used kp2, probably get one of them for not much over $200 if you are patient..
  21. you can turn off the spinning platter, and also change the cueing mode so it's like a pio cdj. 3700 is a little strange though, it has wave display but if you are playing off a cd, you have to save the wave display first, it can't build it on the fly. I guess it's really a midi controller with the cd player thrown in almost as an afterthought
  22. having some problems here, I managed to record last weeks set then took my mixer in for warranty repairs. Only fixed one of the two things it went in for, but they also managed to fuck up 8 knobs on the mixer that worked fine before. cutting long story short, going to try to get it in the shop again tomorrow so may not get a set in this week.
  23. always wondered why they try with stupid prices, put up something like cdj1000 at $1000, people will think it legitimate and they'd still get heaps of bites. this way just makes if so obvious it's a scam.
  24. scam scam scammedy scam scam you would be lucky to get any one of those units at that price, let alone 3. and the seller is not responsible for customs fees, you are. anything thay says payment to be made by western union is a scam
  25. we're just emailing the links to d4dirtyradio@gmail.com ?
