you haven't said if you are using any software, a 4d is pointless unless using ableton or traktor. The mixer part alone is nice, but a 92 is better and 2/3 the price. are you planning to use 4 decks at some point? if not, djm909? great scratch mixer, lots of effects. pmc looks nice, a bvit cramped. are you after effects, midi? scratch or mixing?

check ebay - i can imagine a new part from panasonic costing a fortune. or contact a repairer, they may have parts salvaged from old tt's much cheaper than a new replacement. or go all out and put in the rega arms instead, supposed to make a huge difference to quality, albeit at $2-300 just for a 2nd hand arm also - what do you nmean broken?snapped the arm, bent it? could it be bearings or wires rather than the arm itself?

you can get active monitors which have their own amp built in, or a passive monitor which needs an external amp. Some options (eg behringher truth) have both options so be clear on what you are buying. ppl in the past have got a bargain only to find out it was the passive model and they then needed to fork out for an amp. Why do you feel you need monitors? Most decent home stereos will do just fine for dj'ing, monitors mostly are to give accurate (if not necessarily) good sound for production. $2-300 you should be able to find some truth's second hand. Also consider how loud you need it - most monitors you setup pretty close so you don't need a massive speaker just to mix with. 8" monitors can be overkill in a lot of places. I have the older model truths (B2031, not the newer A model), paid $200 off ebay and works fine. I moved my setup out of my lounge room, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered and just kept using my stereo which sounded better anyway

started with pioneer dj-3500 turn tables (a rebadge of some other low end brand). added a cmx3000 dual cd deck, then sold the tt's and got some second hand technics, sold the cmx and bought two cdj800's

I can't imagine any club buying one. The abuse a house mixer goes through, no touch screen would be up to that

deadmau5 i think has moved on from the 4d, he's using a shitload of stuff now in his shows. for straight mixing I'd take the 42 over the 800. and if you want effects, I'd still take the 42 and get an external effects unit. an efx1000 will be more flexible than the same effects on the 800, and you could pick whatever fx unit you really like. a KP3 would only set you back about 500, so that combo would have better fx plus be cheaper. i wouldn't worry about playing out on different mixers. I still stuff up pressing cue buttons (used to own pioneer, now an A&H) and using the pio effects on board is not hard.

red eye sells whatever someone has sold to them. wouldn't really head to spank for battle records, central station maybe.

go with 1200's second hand. they last forever so no great benefit in buying new, and you can sell them on later if you want and not lose any money

are you in relativce or absolute mode? absolute means if it's at 2mins of the time code cd it plans at 2 min of the track. In re;lative mode it plays whatever part of the track it's up to, just gets the pitch from the cd deck, you need to use the software cues to set points on the track. software cues are much better as you save them per track, using the cues on the cd deck you cannot save them since to the cd player you are always playing the same time code track, 2. yes - in any combination of cd, vinyl and intenral control. syncing internally to a time code controlled track is not 100% perfect, timecode fluctuates a bit, but I've never had issues. then again I'm not syncing to and then doing massive pitch tricks on that time code track 3. probably won't hurt 4. heaps, and you can create groups eg fx at once on the one efect banks. checkout dj tech tools forums for some nice combinations

i decided yesterday I had better catch up on burning cds, had just been playing off timecode since november. got about 1/3 of the way through, forgot how painful it can be. running lenovo T60, core2 2.0ghz, 1.5gb ram. on traktor 1.2.4 no glitches or dropouts even using 3 timecode or 4 internal decks, effects etc. can't remember the latency setting I have, but i don't scratch, never felt latency was an issue. my computer is far from clean, it's my main work computer, online all day for general use. your specs are more than enough, just make sure you keep it clean and stop things like background updates which can kill it temporarily

remember by 2 outs I mean 4 cables (2 left/right or red/white plugs pairs), so to record you need 2 out and 1 in (or 4 out 2 in), make sure clarify just whether they are counting cables or stereo pairs.
-
1 in 1 out won't suffice as you have no channel to cue on. at a minimum you need 2 out (you don't need any in unless you want to use timecode or sned the output back to the computer to record). since you are using an external mixer, you can cue there and just sent 2 output channels to the mixer. you can also mix "in the box" with the software mixer, and then you get the master out on one channel and a cue on another channel, so you still need 2 olutwards channels. If you want to later mix 3+ channels on an external mixer a larger soundcard is needed, again unless you use the software mixer. also, if you might want to use time code one day it's probably worth getting the audio 8 - traktor needs it's own soundcard or certified mixer (basically built in version of their soundcard). If you only plan to mix via midi, then any soundcard with enough channels is ok. the audio 8 is a pretty good soundcard, and cheaper to buy with the software bundle than to buy software and soundcard seperately. Audio 4 is the same thign with 2 in and 2 out, or you could go for the audio 2, much cheaper and just 2 outs, so cannot handle timecode.

as soon as you get it, do the updates. You will probably get 1.0.1 software on the CD, which is crammed full of bugs. update to 1.2.4 before you even try to use it
-
from who though? pioneer doesn't do international warranty as they are all independant business units though they report back to pio japan. even buying in country from ebay means you don't get a warranty as per pioneers terms of trade with retailers
-
try 3-6% before store specials. seriously not much margin in there. buying from o/s is an option, but do you really want to spend $2000+on a cd deck that comes with no warranty?
-
how many, 2 crates = 150 odd? do you have a list of tracks, ball park asking price?
-
the margins on pioneer gear is fuck all anyway. how much are you getting off for your bulk purchase?

Mixing at home without monitor speakers...
tubby replied to SourceRaver's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
swapping between cueing and master works for me, but I do get the occaisonal mix where I play back and found I got confused (was listening to master when I thought it was cue) and you can hear me cueing tracks. works ok when you can't make noise but not as much fun. -
mostlly buy wav's but even when mp3's I always burn as audio cd's. less issues in general, and not all decks play mp3's still.
-
are they the same price? are the 1000's in good condition? 400's have smaller jog wheel, which is only an issue if they are mostly for scratching. the 1000's havew the wave display and hot cue, which may or may not mean anything ot your needs. 400's have the usb input, which saves you the hassle of burning tunes, but if you play out there's a 90% chance you need to burn to cd anyway. same price, these days I'd go the new 400's.

Got 3 g's to spend want to spin/mix electro
tubby replied to Aunjey's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
the main difference is the cueing mode, and denons have an option to cue exactly like pio's. the newer cdj's come with software that lets you set cue points and stuff, but I doubt you'll find many clubs with cdj2000's or 900's just yet. The 1000's you can save to a memory card, but the newer models you can do on computer. No word yet on whether you get the software frewe or need to buy a new cdj, but given people who do buy will get 2 (and hence 2 copies of software) it won't be hard to get a spare copy and setup at home. -

great decks at a fantastic price compared to what pio charge. don't get too caught up on the fact that pioneer are in all clubs - a monkey could learn the ins and outs of a pioneer in under a minute. The only downside is all the features on the denons won't be available to you, and you'll still have to burn cd's to play out when you can play off a drive at home. that leaves about $700 for a mixer, perhaps a second hand xone 62? or save a little for a new xone 42 -
too much pizza and beer, not enough exercise

If you won the lottery what dj equipment would you buy?
tubby replied to Buck_Choi's topic in DJ Headquarters
3 * cdj2000's with external DAC's 3* 1210 mk5's wit external phono pre amps. xone v6 with thrive isolator 2* xone 1D gryphon poseidon speakers (as much for how cool they look as for the awesome sound) -
do a search for the track on beatport as well. it may be sold under several labels, only one of which you are looking at however you found it. I used to be able to get around it with a work proxy based in uk or sweden, a bit safer than using random proxies.
