if you have a laptop, for what you need, i think a controller will be your best option. It will be your cheapest, most portable option, with the most features. for around the $1000 mark, you'll get a controller that you won't have to upgrade, unless you want to change platforms. These three are probably your best option. They are basically plug and play, come with software and default mapping, so you don't have to configure anything.... basically install like normal software and drivers, plug it in USB and you're away. Native Instruments Kontrol S4 https://www.storedj.com.au/products/NI-KNTRLS4 -comes with traktor pro 2 so you don't have to pay for an upgrade Denon dn-mc6000 https://www.storedj.com.au/products/DEN-DNMC6000 - Comeas with Traktor LE, so you will have to upgrade to Pro version if you continue with djing, but can probably get away with LE version just for parties. Pioneer DDJ-S1/T1 https://www.storedj.com.au/products/PIO-DDJS1 -comes with serato ITCH software https://www.storedj.com.au/products/PIO-DDJT1 -comes with T1 traktor edition software i have owned both the S4 and Denon dn-mc6000. I have the denon currently, and personally like it better, even putting aside some of the audio issues i had with the S4. the denon has also just got new traktor and firmware upgrades to make it work better with traktor. All three are solid units, however, i haven't had any experience with the pioneers. All will do the job you need and more as well, so you can develop your skills. like cupe said, no one will be able to tell, and they are hella big. traktor records in .wav and i always convert to 320kbps because it is heaps smaller, and it's what the rest of my music is in

yup, i mainly have experience with traktor, so can't really advise any further that the pioneer serato itch controller in terms of controllers that directly link..... but you can always go for a cheaper controler like a hercules or something then map it for serato.... as far as i know anyway.... one of the other boys might have a better idea

depends what everyone wants.... if there aren't that many of us, a club is probably easier, but then if there are more, something else would be better.
