  1. Do your research. If you go to any functions where there's a DJ company working, go up and talk to the DJ. If he/she's an employee, ask what they're like to work for. If he/she's the boss ask about job opportunities. Or if you know of any companies that have regular gigs in a pub or club do the above as well. If you're new to it all but have a keen interest in getting work, working for a company could be a great way to start in the industry.
  2. When you're standing at the back of the crowd looking at him on stage, he's not that big. lol
  3. geeks....gotta luv 'em. lol
  4. Anyone in Adelaide that could pick it up for a ADJF buyer??
  5. and a soundcard (unless it's built into the midi controller)
  6. Lightsounds still has it at the discount price though.
  7. One day to go and still only at $200.
  8. Just checked and Store DJ have it for $859!!
  9. Why are DJ Warehouse selling Traktor Scratch Pro for $850 when NI are still selling it for $335USD??
  10. Or if you can pick up a Traktor Kontrol S4 it comes with the Traktor software, all for around the $1k mark. Could be a good place to start and then you could look at CDJs or turntables further down the track if you want to.
  11. Welcome. Good luck with the mixing.
  12. Welcome. It's OK. I still don't know most of the various genres.
  13. Started off at a really low price. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Technics-sl-1200-mk2-turntable_W0QQitemZ130458356856QQcategoryZ150752QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DDLSL%252BPSSI%252BSI%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BUA%252BUCK%26otn%3D20%26pmod%3D270670707513%252B270670707513%26po%3D%26ps%3D63 Local pick-up only
  14. You should also set a minimum number of hours you will do for any given job. I've been working on 3 hours minimum. If the client has a function that requires you for less time, I still charge the minimum fee. Otherwise it's not worth your time and effort to set up, do the job, pack up and perhaps track down any specific music thay may request. I do know of some DJ companies who offer a set fee for specific functions (ie weddings) regardless of the number of hours they are required to play. These companies also tend to charge up in the higher range of fees but I don't know just how much work they get.
  15. I saw some of these acts at Foreshore in Canberra yesterday. I thought Tiesto's set was pretty pumped given it was at 3pm in the afternoon. Also interesting to see he plays off CDs not a laptop. Calvin Harris was good too. Didn't really get into Major Lazer or Yolanda Be Cool. Afrojack went off as did Benny Benassi. A couple of other acts which weren't at Stereosonic but I though went off were The Only and Krafty Kuts. As for the crowd, I've never seen so many spray tans. lol

  17. Welcome
  18. Got mine last week. Great phone!
  19. Looks like they will be just in time as a Christmas present (but not for any Christmas parties).
  20. 13" or 15" screen? Sounds like just the thing I'm after too.
  21. In other photos I've seen it looks like he's using a Pioneer and a Korg effects units but not actually spinning which I assume is left to his side-kick DJ Aero who is always beside him. He was here last month playing for the Virgin Mobile 10th Birthday bash.
  22. But does it cover you for mobile gigs and for public liability insurance?
  23. Try these guys: http://www.duckforcover.com.au/minigen/
  24. Store DJ are supposed to be having a launch of the S4 tonight at it's Melbourne store, then Sydney tomorrow and Bris on Thursday.
  25. Anyone bought from Bigpond Music? Or know what the bitrate of their tracks are?
