  1. Medical grade is probably of a higher quality or more pure. That's why the price difference.
  2. Last year they had Empire of the Sun and Deadmau5 in his Aussie Flag mau5 head. This year they will also have Calvin Harris and Benny Benassi. Should be a great day.
  3. Yeah, just re-invent the dustcover. lol
  4. Great opportunity to play on the same bill as Tiesto and Temper Trap! http://www.outincanberra.com.au/node/ad ... egistrant/
  5. Watched a few more clips on this. Love the v-link. Brings a whole new dimension to a performance.
  6. That's something that Top 40 clubs have, hot girls!! lol
  7. So basically it's the same principle as those little tables they put in the pizza boxes to keep the boxlid from touching the pizza topping??
  8. Agreed. You have to start somewhere. Even if you are an experienced DJ, you might pick up one or two handy tips. Why re-invent the wheel when someone has already made one??
  9. And who says we ALL want to attend underground house clubs?? Some people are happy to listen to Top 40 and "artificial music" (whatever that is??)
  10. He's American, what do you expect. But the stupid requests are universal.
  11. What does a decent Macbook cost nowadays?
  12. There are good and bad points about taking requests. The video shows the bad ones. CBG points out the good ones.
  13. Any further advice on this thread? What do others load onto ther DJ laptop? Do you keep it to a bare minimum? Do you hook it up to the internet or keep it isolated?
  14. Depends on the size of the club and how much management value their DJs. Also depends if they encourage requests or not.
  15. I hear that one often. And my reply is "Why should I care, it won't get me laid" lol
  16. Got to love this one. I'm sure most of us have heard at least 90% of these:
  17. Nothing wrong with Nightlife (IMHO). DJaz, Nightlife is a computer-based music video system that can be controlled via a keyboard or hooked up through a dual CD-type controller. It can also be programmed to play tracks at random without a DJ, say during the daytime for a pub or club, or until the DJ starts their set.
  18. Those CDJ2000's aren't cheap though.
  19. Cupe, if you have a mailing list attached to this forum, can't you send a bulk email out asking if any of the members are or know of a graphic artist who can help?
  20. Yes, PC is running Nightlife videos
  21. Corny but : Greenday - Time of our lives or Nickelback - Photograph
  22. At one venue I was mates with the promoter so when the regular DJ moved on he offered me a spot. At another venue I originally answered a newspaper ad, went in for an interview and did a Thursday partynight to show them what I could do. From there I was offered a regular weekly gig. When new owners took over the club, they didn't give me any indication of whether they wanted the same style of music or not until the night before my scheduled night and then they said they didn't need my services anymore (thanks for the notice). So I did the rounds of a few of the clubs and caught up with a few fellow DJs that I knew. Told them of my current situation and luckily one of them was thinking of moving on so offered me his night. Still there years later. For DJs new to the scene my suggestion would be to get out there, talk to other DJs, club owners, promoters, etc and get your name out there. You never know what may drop in your lap but I can guarantee nothing will happen if you're not proactive about it.
  23. Advertising and affiliate links is where you can possibly generate revenue. But to get the greatest benefit you need to increase traffic to the site. On a quick google search, ausdjforums came up first for "dj forums australia", further down the list for "australian djs" and nowhere for "disc jockeys australia". The aim should be to think of all the possible search options someone might use to find us and then get to the top of the results page. Google looks at a range of criteria to do this, including metatabs, text content, videos, backlinks, advertising, etc. There are ways of using all of the above effectively to increase traffic as well as generate some much needed revenue. I'm no expert on this but I have just attended some seminars on how to create profitable websites, so as I find out more I'm happy to impart the knowledge.
  24. Track selection is probably one of the toughest skills to learn. I'd say it comes with experience and lots of trial and error. Coming from a mobile DJ background it's ALL about song selection. You have to be able to read the crowd and know what will or won't work in so many different situations. And of course ever gig has it's own challenges. Club work is very different. You usually have most of the same crowd each week, so you should have a good idea of what works and what doesn't.
  25. Is it possible to download sample programs of each to try out?
