Plus it would all be tax deductable for u CBG Anyone who is making an income from DJing should be able to claim a tax deduction from their music (and equipment) purchases.

Fab, how goes the planning for the November gig? Have you found out what music the young rellies are into?

Just digging through a few old threads and thought I'd bring some back to life. For a wedding or other function, during the meal I normally play something fairly laid back. Ranging from a bit of jazz or some old-time crooners to a few instrumental versions of contemporary tracks. Something piano-based or including a bit of saxaphone usually goes down well. The oldies love it. For an 18th or 21st you would play more up-to-date tracks but still keep it laid back. Mix in some RnB with low BPM pop or rock.

Scary stuff! It will probably make our proposed internet filter look like a rusty old tea strainer.

[ebay] Technics 1200's (2x) Sydney < 15 minutes

How about this set up then? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Home-DJ-System-w ... %26ps%3D63 -
Or wait for the white Pioneers to become available out here.

If you can work for them when they need you but keep your own gigs, that would be ideal. Any gigs where the customer contacts you direct are yours, and any that go through the company are theirs and they get their cut. If you get asked to do a gig while on company time, then again it's theirs. Use the company gigs to gain as much experience as you can about the industry, etc. About using different equipment. How they set up or pack up a gig. About how to play to different types of crowds. And it would help to make contacts at venues that you work. Or you may find that the types of jobs they book aren't for you. But my advice would to at least look into it and give it a go.

Would love to get to Parklife and see Groove Armada and Soulwax. Soulwax in particular (also known as 2manydjs).

I have done both, so am happy to offer some advice. I don't see why you couldn't do both. Work for the company and keep doing your own gigs. It may depend on what your potential new boss thinks. There are things you will learn working for the company which you may not learn on your own and you will also get to know other DJs who may be able to help you out at times. Before you do work for this company, check out it's reputation around town and make sure they are someone you would feel comfortable working for. Happy to answer any other questions you may have.

How the hell do you fit all that into a Pulsar?? Is it a special DJ edition with expanding boot?? lol Or is your front passenger a Bass Bin?

What do you guys use to transport your gear to/from a gig? I've seen some use a box trailer. Also been involved with some of the big operators who use a van/s to carry multiple units. I've gotten by with the good 'ol family wagon for many years. Anyone have anything special?

Perhaps make this a sticky post. How about if you find anything of interest on EBay that others may find worth while, you post it here. Here's a starter but it's about to end; A CDJ100 going really cheap: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT

Already discussed here: http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... pic&t=3172

Welcome Luke. Are you still selling gear? If so, what brands, etc?
-
Great start to your career. Hope it keeps getting bigger and better for you.

But not very portable!

On the question of standing or sitting, I used to stand for the duration of all my gigs (sometimes up to 6-8 hours). To me it looked more professional and you were more mobile to sort through your CDs on the table next to you. But after the years catch up on you and your back starts to ache 3 or 4 hours into a gig I now try to find a stool to sit on as a back up. That way you're still at a similar height as standing but you can rest your back and legs if they get tired. I try to avoid sitting in a chair if I can help it (and my console is too high for that position anyway).
-
A console stand is easy enough to make. You just need some plywood and a few piano hinges. Make it about 900mm to 1m high (depending on your own height) and about the same wide. Folds down flat and is easy to carry. Paint it black or for a more professional look, cover it in grey felt-like carpet (used to be available from Clark Rubber or Jaycar I think). Then you can either rest your coffin on top or use another sheet of plywood for a table top. The good thing about this sort of console stand is that you can hide all your stuff behind it - kit box, amp, power boards, etc.

Efficiency = a less-sore back and getting home to bed earlie

Other items to include in your kit: Pen and paper CD cleaning cloth Small desk lamp Ear plugs I keep all my cables and kit in one of those carry cubes (about the size of a milk crate) that you can buy from Big W etc. Then when I set up I put the cube under my console and rest my amp on it (keeps it off the floor). Also, when buying extension cords or get cords fitted to your equipment, make sure you get them with piggy-back plugs. That way you need fewer double adapters or smaller power boards. -

Source, what do you use the remote power board for? -
Sounds like he's from New York or somewhere like that, hence the attitude. But is was right about the 'Birthday Song' lol. How many times have you been asked to play that??
-
You need to raise your setup higher. If you plan on doing this for years, believe me it's the best piece of advice I can give. Your back will thank me. 6'3 myself and had to build my own console so that I wouldn't be bending over all night.
-
So I can't ask a fellow DJ their opinion of equipment they own?? I should rely solely on reviews which may or may not be funded by the distributor or a reseller?
-
And what's your verdict? Worth the money?
-
So has anyone tried out the CDJ350 and DJM350 yet? I've seen the full setup available on EBay for $2350 but I'm sure you could get it cheaper if you looked around.
