Whether at a nightclub, pub/club or mobile function, what's the most inappropriate song request (based on the type of music you normally play) that you have been asked? I'll list a few to get the ball rolling: In a pub/club: Africa by Toto At a wedding function: Smack your Bitch Up by Prodigy

Anyone using or tried out one of these? Apparently it was designed by Q-Bert. http://www.djwarehouse.com.au/shop-by-brand/vestax/vestax-qfo-le-turntable.html

Seeing how this is in the Mobile DJ section I assume OT is refering to a party or function as opposed to a nightclub scenario. If you get conflicting requests then just explain that you will play the other type of music soon. When doing a function where the crowd is quite varied (i.e. young as well as old) I try to play music in sets of 3 or 4 songs per genre with some sort of transition track in between (ie 3 or 4 80's party tracks followed by a recent remix or remake then into some current top 40 tracks, etc).

A bit discriminatory only being open to those between 18 and 35!! What about us oldies??? Obviously after image and not talent. -

Jonny, have you listened to the mixtape yet? If so, what genre would you call it? Been listening to it and it's pretty cool. -
At least the feedback here seems more constructive then say on ITM.

Welcome to the Funhouse.:-)

Nice slipmats. lol

Might also come down to the venue. Could be some club/pub management that turn a blind eye to age so long as they get someone with a bit of talent that brings in the drinkers and makes them money. Dodgey as hell but I'm sure they're out there in this industry of ours. Especially in the farther outreaches in smaller towns where the choice of a DJ may be limited and if you're chummy with the local constabulary who'll turn a blind eye. Would I want to work for them? No way! But if your 17 and keep as hell to get into a venue, there's no thought for logic.

Just bought a bulk lot of iPod Nano silicon cases if anyone is interested in one....

Not sure who the group pics are of but there sure are some interesting mug shots in the profile pics. :-) -
Is it worth the $1000 price tag? Or would you recommend any of the other Roland samplers?

Anyone tried one of these out yet??

And if you want to be really perdantic, then you should list the record label (ie Sony, BMG, etc).

I got offered these speakers. (Need advice)
Funky_Steve replied to dezza1994's topic in Amps & Speakers
Is there only one speaker? If so, not really good for most gigs. As for the front and stated previously, you would need to put a cover on it to protect the exposed cones and tweeters, which in turn would hide the front graphics. The amp doesn't look like it's a professional/commercial amp. More like it's for home/domestic use. Any amp that requires you to connect the speakers via the bare wires and not some form of connector is not really suited for external DJ use. How long could it run at high capacity if you are using it for a gig? And if it does give up half way through the gig, then what? You could run the risk of using it for your first gig, but to me it would be more suited to the home lounge or rumpus room. IMHO best to buy equipment specifically designed and proven for mobile work. -

Funky_Steve replied to JonnyB's topic in DJ Headquarters
If I was in Sydney I'd definitely try to make it. Hell, the price seems pretty good just for a 4-hour harbour cruise let alone a party on the water. Then there's all the after-party extras. Will pass the word down here in case anyone is thinking of heading up for the weekend.
