Rysh Paprota Bio A misguided life; Rysh Paprota’s failure to make it as an evil wizard bent on universal domination resulted in him taking the only honourable course in life – creating electronic music. Based in the fictional city of Melbourne, Australia, 22 year old Rysh Paprota aims to make music more diverse than the typical robot. Producing a wide range of sounds loosely described as anything from Progressive House to Techno, influences come from years of collecting vinyl and exploring various genres of music. After a length of time comparable to something fairly short, Rysh has managed to gain the attention of numerous labels, including the likes of Pure Substance Digital, Polytechnic Recordings, Vise-Versa, Green Snake and others. The music this young Australian brings to the proverbial table isn’t from the cooked chicken variety, but more of a sumptuous course of braised quail and other irregular ingredients. Metaphors and hyperbole come in handy describing music - but it’s easier to listen for yourself. Rysh Paprota - 2010-08-00 - Lurpak Mix 01. Tufan Demir - Quiet Days In A Room (Vocal Version) 02. Novel presents Apparat (The Devil's Walk) On the back of a blazing Australian debut tour in April 2010 and landmark work with Modeselektor as Moderat, Sascha Ring brings his revered Apparat project back to Melbourne for a live PA this December. If the saying goes that timing is everything, then Apparat’s Australian fans should be salivating. After three acclaimed longplayers, the German is on the verge of releasing his most accomplished compositions to date, with new album ‘The Devil’s Walk’ set to drop in late September. The title, a nod to Shelley’s 1812 satirical poem of the same name, is the album in which Sascha grows up and raises his game. If last LP, 2007’s ‘Walls’, hinted at a move away from the heat of the dancefloor, ‘The Devil’s Walk’, with its cool, contemplative dream-pop and bruise-tender Sigur Rós texture, makes that explicit. Already, every indication points to new material striking a poignant chord with listeners, with soaring album cut ‘Ash/Black Veil’ notching up an impressive 100,000 plays on Soundcloud within a few weeks. The Devils Walk began to take shape when Sascha was in Mexico at the start of 2010. Tanned and confident, he returned to Berlin thinking he had a whole album ready. Then he listened to it and realised that this was not the record he wanted to make. It was way more electronic than the version you have now. I decided to rework it and that took one more year. In any case, all you could want to know about Sascha Ring and Apparat is in this tremendous record. The devil isnt just in the details, hes locked into every groove. And with Sascha at the controls, hes certainly got all the best tunes. Apparat’s live shows have evolved in leaps and bounds too, as the German grows into a more accomplished performer with every gig. For this upcoming tour of Australia, Apparat will be hitting the Antipodes in full band mode, with with co-producer Patrick “Nackte” Christensen (piano, guitar, bass), Ben Lauber (rhodes, keyboards) and Jörg Wähner (drums, percussion) joining Sascha on stage to showcase cuts from ‘The Devil’s Walk’ and other Apparat gems from throughout the years. http://apparat.net/ http://facebook.com/apparat.official The Hi-Fi. 125 Swanston Street, Melbourne TICKETS ON SALE Fri 30th Sept via http://wearenovel.com.au/ http://www.facebook.com/weareNovel http://www.inthemix.com.au/whatson/melbourne/event/67552/Novel_presents_Apparat_Live

Some info on our next guest... Dave Juric Dave Juric has been DJing in Melbourne for over 4 years and is heavily influenced by Danny Howells, Phil K, Rollin Connection, James Zabiela, Maceo Plex, Tom Middleton and Steve Bug. Over the years he has honed his skills supporting DJ’s such as Danny Howells, Lee Burridge, SOS, Michael Mayer, Hybrid, Satoshi Tommie and Henry Saiz, and has shared mainroom duties with acts as diverse as Moshic @ Room680, Kasey Taylor @ Brown Alley, and playing between Nick Curly and Chris Fortier at Brown Alley on NYE 2010 to a packed rooftop. Recently he was on warm up duties for Luke Fair and Nick Warren to a massive Darkbeat crowd. Other notable events include playing at Festivus (outdoor bush party) and Sensation (NYE 2009). Over the years he has been involved in a few different crews (Clarity, Discourse, Dynamic), and now has an ongoing residency with Darkbeat. He also plays monthly on KissFM’s ‘Walk of Shame’ show on Sunday mornings and has recently established a residency on Friday nights down at Mink Bar playing everything from funk, soul, and classic house. Passionately dedicated about playing music that suits both time and place, his diverse approach covers all aspects of house music (deep, Chicago, tech, progressive) and has a large repertoire that also includes techno, breaks and drum & bass. Rather than sticking to one sound in particular, he plays the music that he loves. His primary focus is having longevity in the scene his goal, to keep sourcing amazing new music and present it in a unique and dynamic way. http://soundcloud.com/dave-juric http://soundcloud.com/juric101 -

After a MASSIVE night in August which saw a full club treated to an evening packed full of audio visual treats, this October sees the Prognosis crew head back to Loop to write the next chapter in their musical journey. A night not to be missed, the crew is once again set to explore the full spectrum of the progressive genre. Prognosis welcomes back Darkbeat stalwart and Mink resident, Dave Juric, to lay down a fine selection of tunes from a genre that has long been aligned closely with the Melbourne scene. Playing alongside Prognosis resident J-Slyde, the two aficionados will delve deep into their collections to serve up a progressive breaks feast. Playing back-to-back, the two will take a look back at some of the tunes and artists that helped build the once thriving scene and acted as a catalyst in putting Melbourne on the global progressive map. Joining them on the night is progressive house wunderkind Rysh Paprota whose highly acclaimed production and remix skills have seen him in high demand. Producer, DJ and front man of Budgie Collective online radio station, Square Eyes will be down to treat us to a showcase of his sound. Also along for the ride is Alex Butler who will be channeling the dusty dance-floors of the festival world as he packs a bag-load of tougher progressive weapons and gets ready set to unleash some musical mayhem. Of course, no Prognosis event would be complete without the musical stylings of resident tune addicts Simon Murphy and Aaron Static, who will once again treat their audience to a captivating blend of the finest tunes on offer. Captivating crowds at some of Australia's most highly regarded events with his artistic wizardry, vdmo Kstati is set to lay down the visual aspect of the night. ::::: GUESTS Dave Juric (Darkbeat) Rysh Paprota (405 Recordings) Square Eyes (Budgie Collective) Alex Butler (Activate) ::::: RESIDENTS J-Slyde Simon Murphy Aaron Static ::::: VISUALS vdmo Kstati ::::: WHERE Loop - 23 Meyers Lane, CBD. Popularity contest, nothing more, nothing less. In now way to does it represent your skill and ability as a DJ. I've heard on good authority that certain people who have placed first in the past have paid a marketing team upwards of $15k+ to run campaigns sourcing them votes.

Hybrid Sound System (UK) Since first bursting onto the scene with the now classic album Wide Angle in 1999, the Swansea, Wales-based Hybrid have been known as one of the most forward thinking and technically skilled acts in electronic dance music. Blurring the line between in-studio production and live presentation, Hybrid are one of the few remaining dance acts to perform live with a classic band setup. Though, much has changed on the road to Hybrid’s fourth artist album Disappear Here. Most notable is the addition of Hybrid’s third member – singer/ songwriter Charlotte James – to go along with founders Chris Healings and Mike Truman. Charlotte’s impact is marked as Disappear Here is truly an album of real songs and not merely dance beats with vocals on top. It offers a lot more than anything Hybrid has ever previously written and pushes boundaries in every way. With Disappear Here, Hybrid have managed to create an epic and unique sound which has progressed dramatically from its original dance inception but still retains much of what makes electronic music so exciting. The album features guest vocals from Tim Hutton, drums from Alex Madge and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Rack & Ruin (UK) This young London producer has already harnessed the support of BBC’s Annie Mac, Nick Grimshaw, Kissy Sell-Out, Toddla T, DJ Zinc, Fake Blood, Shy FX, Jack Beats, Boy 8-Bit, and many more with his latest releases. Remix credits include Nas & Damien Marley, I Blame Coco, Aggro Santos, The Nextmen feat. Groove Armada & Ms. Dynamite, Zero 7, and The Freestylers. Future projects include collaborations with Island Records, Southern Fried Records, Fat! Records, MC Navigator, Slarta John (Basement Jaxx), new vocalist Jessie Ware, and many more established vocalists and artists. LOCAL SUPPORT EK / DARIUS BASSIRAY / CITIZEN.COM & CLAIRE GPHUNK / MUSKA / DEVIANT / FLIP3K / DIISTORTIION / LLUPA / J-SLYDE / DAVE JURIC / YENKS / MISS MAX / SIMON MURPHY / JULES PLEES WHERE Brown Alley – 585 Lonsdale Street WHEN 23rd September TICKETS Email tickets@substancesounds.net for discount industry tickets!! Mind the shitty mobile photo.... finally got my hands on a stand for my EFX unit. Second hand unit, $45 from Factory Sound! Few coats of spray paint and it's looking like new. Plan was to have two setups going at the new pad - one digital (djm800 x cdjs and efx unit) and one vinyl (xone 62 x 1210s) - but room wont allow, so my lil bro is borrowing the 62.
