Depends entirely on the model and unit you are using. CDJ 1000s (MK2 and MK3) and 2000s have Jog adjust options where you can adjust the resistance on the platter. While Denon CDJs actually have a spinning plater which replicates the feel of vinyl.

oh, the guy who i was supporting was a fan of it, and he asked if i could end on a high note to split up his performance. he was playing an indie electro live set after me and it helped to get the crowd's attention plus, it's such a solid track. By Underworld. Thanks for listening mate!
-
CDJs really arent that hard to use man. It's like DJing on easy mode if you already know how to mix using vinyl Once you've learnt the basics about pitching bending on them, the rest comes pretty easy.
-
haha, soz! didnt read. Cupe dude, if your already comfortable on vinyl, id say opt for going DVS. Venue's that don't have turntables, most of the time it just means they dont have them out as the promoters or DJs havent requested any! Plenty of DJs, especially in the dubstep, dnb and hiphop scenes still use vinyl and DVS. If a venue doesnt have turnies, they dont deserve to have you play there

You sound like a junky! haha
-
hah. heard that before!
-
Anyone listen? Im dropping it down from Soundcloud in a few days to replace with a newer set....
-
If you go the vinyl route, learn how to fucking weight needles correctly! I see it all too often with DJs - jumping on, slapping their own needles on and then the vinyl skipping. Most of the time they end up blaming the turntables. Learning how to correctly weight and set up your needles is a big part of playing out. Who's stopping you to buy both CDJs and Turntables? You could pick up a solid pair of second hand 1200s for around $800...

Never had that happen before with any venue i've ever played at our run an event at. Been running events for over 2 years now. Im in Melbourne tho, so it might be different in other states? I tried to get my equipment insured through my house and contents and couldn't get around it. It's covered when in the home, but once you take it out, things get complicated - as already explained. My advice is to hire your own gear. Your only talking about $100ish for a proper setup - which isn't that much to pay in the long run. Not worth risking your own equipment imo.

Care to enlighten one on how to do so? I tried tags but it did nay work... EDIT: Wasnt aware HTML was supported. First post fixed - thanks heaps for the info

Picked up a Tascam DR-07 for field and live recordings. Really handy little unit and quite cheap. Great to take along to gigs

Hey guys, This is a mix recorded a few months back live at a club gig I had. Combination of all things house, techno, electro and prog. Not really much of a fan of how the music styles are split in this section... but I suppose this is the most appropriate area for it. haha. Anyway, download link via my soundcloud page! [MELB] Substance Rooftop Day Party ft Luke Chable - Oct 16th
J0rdz replied to J0rdz's topic in DJ Headquarters
Tracked down this great mix of a whole heap of Chable tunes. It's not the definitive collection, but still a really strong compilation of a selection of his works. The mix flows well, although a few lack luster transitions, but overall it gives a good introduction into what Chable is all about. If your new to his sound, this is a great introduction! The bpm counter can sometimes get confused and maps the half-beat. You see it happen alot with DnB and Hiphop. Using the BPM counters through a CDJ whilst playing DnB is almost impossible!

ITS TONIGHT!! If your up for an eargasm or 10, a quality night full of solid beats and a great party vibe, you know where to head! Small reminder that there will be a 3AM LOCKOUT in-force. So ensure you get down early enough to get up those stairs in time. The Substance krew will also be running an open glist for the night - just say "SUBSTANCE" at the door for cheapass $10 ENTRY.

[MELB] Substance Rooftop Day Party ft Luke Chable - Oct 16th
J0rdz posted a topic in DJ Headquarters
Spring has sprung and the Substance Krew could think of no better way to celebrate than to launch the Audible assault craft, loading the guns to stun and deliver the second instalment of their Rooftop party series. If you missed the last one, don’t make the same mistake twice! The Terminus rooftop has barely recovered from the first round of shenanigans and god only knows if it will be able to handle the second coming. Our first special guest is non-other than Melburn’s prog pin-up, Luke Chable. Keeping a low profile over the past year to concentrate on his Rock n’ Roll roots Luke was nice enough to agree to an exclusive Oldschool set. Whether it be his solo productions or his team ups with artists such as Danny Bonnici, Jono Fernandez, NuBreed or with Phil K (under their Lostep guise), Luke has been responsible for some of the biggest prog and breaks tracks of the past 10 years. Play listed by some of the biggest names in the world, his production is quite simply, second to none. Needless to say we’re very happy to have him on-board. Backing up what is already a solid guest we prepare for Muska’s first set on substance shore’s. The head honcho behind the massive Melbourne party crew Mixed Messages. His sets bring all genre’s into one flowing musical crescendo hence bearing reason as to why he is one of Melbourne’s most noticeable and notorious party DJ’s. We also welcome Alison Spong on board to pop her Substance cherry. Having secured numerous support slots in all genres of the Melbourne scene of late and appearing here there in everywhere, Alison’s sets pack plenty of punch and we’re sure there will be no exceptions when she graces the balcony for her prime time afternoon set. With the regular residents getting ready to drop all types of madness and regular guests Hendo, Recoil and Alex DB. You better keep the 16th of October clear, get those drinking goggles cleaned and polish off the party boots, cause ITS ROOFTOP ROUND 2! ---------------------- DJS ---------------------- Luke Chable (Trojan Records / Lostep) Muska (Mixed Messages) Alison Spong Alex DB Recoil (White Noise) Hendo (Budgiecollective.com) With residents: Taran M, J-Slyde, Simon Murphy, Mouka, Rich OK ---------------------- WHEN ---------------------- Saturday 16th October 12noon – 11pm ---------------------- WHERE ---------------------- Terminus Hotel, 605 Victoria St, Abbotsford. ---------------------- TICKETS ---------------------- $10 Early birds from promoters. Since his first release, ‘Accelerator’ (under the moniker Traveller presents Quest) which sold out of four pressings and appeared on no less than eight compilations around the world, Luke hasn’t looked back. It wasn’t long before Luke had a plethora of original releases under his belt. Club hits like ‘Eat Static’, ‘Sealer’s Cove’, ‘Midnight In Cyberfunk’ and ‘Bitter & Twisted’ were standouts. The quality of Luke’s songwriting and production skills was soon recognised by DJs across the planet and his tracks became regular favourites with the likes of Deep Dish, Sasha, John Digweed and Danny Howells. Following on from this support, John Digweed signed Luke’s smash hit ‘Melburn to his Bedrock label. This in turn put Luke on the global map and set him up for his overseas success. Luke’s defining moment on the international scene came from a collaboration with Danny Bonnici from seminal Australian electronic act Nubreed. ‘Ride’, a melodic, progressive house bomb was signed to major dance label Alternative Route and the rest is history. The instant success of ‘Ride’ set Luke up as an international powerhouse. In 2005 Renaissance invited Luke to do a compilation mix CD with Dave Seaman before embarking on a year long tour of the UK, Europe and the United States to support the release. Off the back of his solo success, Luke has been a remixer in demand. His thumping main room sound has been sought after by labels such as Bedrock, Positiva, Ministry of Sound, Yoshitoshi and Black Hole. Some of the big names Luke has remixed include Steve Angello, James Ash, Tune Brothers, Stockholm Syndrome, Kasey Taylor and Shiloh. More recently Luke has been collaborating in the studio with Australian dance legends TV Rock. This partnership has proven to be a killer combination with the hugely successful releases ‘Happiness (I’m Hurting Inside)’ and the hit ‘In the Air’ - feat Rudy which was released on Axwell’s Axtone Records. Luke has also remixed numerous TV Rock originals such as ‘Everything Changes’, ‘Times Like These’. More recently Luke has provided remixes for UK superstar Dizee Rascal, ARIA winner Bertie Blackman, TYDI, Tin Alley, Sunlovers and Kaz James.
