  1. Thanks for the kind words, guys! Don't generally get the opportunity to play the downtempo styles, so it was a really refreshing change and a lovely challenge to be thrown out of my comfort zone. Hoping to play some more of this style in the future! So fingers crossed for some bookings Also, if any of you are interested, I uploaded the Jupiter Sunrise edit I put together for the set:
  2. thanks for listening, mate. appreciate it!
  3. Thanks guys! Hope you liked it
  4. Hey guys! Thought some of you might enjoy this. Was lucky enough to play at Rainbow Serpent's 20th Anniversary event a few weeks back. I was tasked with a Chill Set on the Sunday afternoon. Bit of a mixed bag of ambient, instrumental hiphop, electronica, and a teeny bit of 4/4 flavoured stuff from artists such as Boards Of Canada, Orbital, deadmau5, SHIGETO, Aaron Static, BLOND:ISH, Luke Chable, Lusine, Robert Babicz, Stateless, The Heavy, Plutonic Lab and many more. Love to hear what you all think! Thanks for listening

  7. Next up for Q&A time is the mashtastic Mouka! We're extremely excited and feeling very honoured that he's agreed to come out of retirement for the party. grin emoticon 1. Music Style? Mash-up - but hovering in rock, funk, hip hop and a little edm I love mixing progressive house tunes, but for this gig I will be using Live and mashing tunes together. 2. Who are your biggest musical influences? For production I would have to say my biggest single influence is Radiohead. Followed closely by TV on the radio. Their sound is so crisp and unique. For upfront gigs, I love most hiphop artists but can't go past Kid Koala. He just chucks things together and isn't afraid to play some really nice downbeat tunes (like his rendition of Moon River: ) or upbeat sets or romantic sets. He does it all. Another performer that inspires me is z-trip because his stuff is so much fun to watch, dance to and laugh with. But nothing is better than a dj who can sew together a great set that flows.3. What is your favourite Substance? A few years ago I discovered how good a good tequila can be, and then discovered it's smoky cousin, mezcal. So either of those. 4. Do you have a Substance memory that stands out in your mind? Agh...so many to choose from. There was a big inflatable phone at one of the Highlander parties. For a few hours it kind of dominated the dancefloor. It was fairly sizeable for an inflatable (roughly the height of Peter Dinklage), and people were just kind of passing it around as a dancing partner for the night. It got a little weird there for a while, but it just goes to show that anything goes at a Substance party. 5. One tune for people to listen to in the lead up for rave inspiration? I have a constantly evolving playlist called Bumpin' where I collect all my favourite tunes (for rave inspiration)...so I'd have to suggest this remix by SIMØNE, of David Bowie's Let's Dance
  8. You thought it was finished. You thought it was over. You thought "no way, no how, they're done and dusted". Just when you thought it was safe to get back on the dance floor... WE'RE GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER! The Substance Crew have decided it's time to dust off those pumps, tighten those tone-arms, unhang those headphones and get back to where it all began, hosting Melbourne's most diverse electronic music night. Throwing themselves and their collective creativity into the unique art-space that is Rubix Warehouse, the Substance Sounds music machine is rolling once again. The usual suspects have been working behind the scenes to get ready to take you on a collaborative journey that will encompass everything that the Substance Crew holds dear. A hand-picked selection of the timeless tune classics mashed in with splashes of the new, the music on offer will, like always, be of the highest quality. Dearly loved guests that had joined us in the past and some new faces will join the Substance residents of days gone by for a MASSIVE REUNION spectacular with two rooms of mayhem and a few surprises thrown in to boot! Headliners Jamie Stevens, Luke Chable and PQM will rejoin the crew, with a slathering of local talents and the original Substance Collective together once more. As we seek to revisit the amazing magic of the past and give it a new coat of awesome, this event is one you don't want to miss. ► LINEUP Jamie Stevens (Infusion) Luke Chable (Lostep) PQM J-Slyde Simon Murphy Taran M Rich OK Trent McDermott Alex David Dave Juric Scott Freedman Mouka JFX Danny Dobbs Algorithm Exacist Ben Evans Julian Reynolds ► VISUALS vdmo Kstati ► WHEN Saturday, September 26th 2pm - 1am ► WHERE Rubix Funhouse 36 Phoenix St, Brunswick VIC 3056, Australia http://www.rubixfunhouse.com/ Google maps link: http://bit.ly/1LvHLcQ ► TICKETS $10 Early Birds / $15 general / More on the door Tickets available from Resident Advisor: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?748259 http://substancesounds.net/ http://facebook.com/substancesounds http://facebook.com/PrognosisMelbourne

  10. The collective musical minds behind Prognosis, FutureForm Music and Instinct Events are pleased to present… Nanoplex (Iboga Records/NANO RECORDS) & Ben Coda (LOT49/Flow/FutureForm) On the back of a MASSIVE 2014 with shows across the globe from Boom Festival to Glastonbury Festival, Ben Coda is down under for a string of shows including the legendary Rainbow Serpent Festival. We couldn’t let the lad head back to the UK without laying down a NANOPLEX set for the Melbourne crowd as well as a Ben Coda set for those who miss the magic at RSF. Thankfully he is happy to oblige. 12. Well the year is flying by and the disco calendar is chock full of musical madness. So much so that we've moved our October Prognosis show to 1st November!!! Joining us once again is globe trotting production and DJ powerhouse, Rich Curtis Dj! Going from strength to strength, Curtis has had a string of hugely successful releases on the biggest labels in the bizz. We look forward to seeing what he'll dish up on this trip to Melburn! What's old is new, what goes around comes around. The artist formerly known as Ruckus is back from retirement with a fresh take on the sounds he loves, playing now as Scott Freedman. Also along for the ride is KJ who has played under a few guises over his career and joins us with a wealth of musical knowledge and mad skills to match. Rounding out the lineup are the residents J-Slyde, Aaron Static and Simon Murphy plus visual magician, vdmo Kstati. 13. This August the gang down at Prognosis have decided to throw the hootenanny of all hootenannies. A grand spectacle no doubt and one for the record books with special guest Dylan Griffin headlining the occasion and making his Prognosis debut. The brains behind the successful AU Underground podcast series, key contributor at Subsonic plus a tour schedule that has seen him traveling around Australia and beyond, Dylan has been stamping his mark with his musical talents for nearly a decade. Even if he is originally from Sydney, you’ll be glad he made the move down to Melbourne when you sample his sonic offerings. To accompany our headliner and to ensure the madness reigns supreme, the lads have invited some of their favourite regulars to play versus sets with the unruly residents. Already knowing each others musical tastes inside out, these versus sets are going to be a melting pot of ideas, inspirations and let’s face it, idiocy in unhealthy doses. Mish’Chief, Melbourne’s first lady of staunch techno is first up as she graces the Loop stage to pick up where she left off (loud and in charge). Prognosis favourite, progressive kingpin Herc Kass will also be down with a whole new bag of tricks as his label FutureForm Music moves ahead in leaps and bounds. Darkbeat’s Dave Juric stops by on the back of support slots for some really famous blokes, flying the flag for the progressive resurgence the scene is seeing. The tallest man in showbiz, ridiculously talented production powerhouse Kultrun returns for a long overdue set and will prove once and for all that he isn’t a first class jerk. Rounding out the guest list is Alex David who has been keeping himself busy in the studio since his last slot, tweaking his sound and amassing a new legion of fans from his recent mixes. The residents J-Slyde, Aaron Static and Simon Murphy have each picked a suitable target with whom they will be laying down tunes and are excited to mix things up from the regular formula to see what magic comes of it. Visual input will once again be provided by vdmo Kstati whose artistic genius rounds out the package perfectly. Strap on your snow chains cos it’s gonna get slippery!!! 14. NOW WITH ADDED CHABLE!! Well the team down at Prognosis were already giddy with excitement at the thought of this weekend's debauchery and then we were offered an opportunity too good to refuse. Joining the already stacked lineup of Kasey Taylor, Matter and Moskalin is the one and only LUKE CHABLE who will be giving us a sneak peak of his brand spankin new album. As Luke prepares to leave sunny Melbourne indefinitely to move to Sydney, this may be the last chance to see him work his magic in Melbourne for quite some time. The prog gods are clearly shining down on us even if the sun isn't, so get on board! For a taster of what we're in for, check out his Soundcloud page: https://soundcloud.com/lukechable
  15. dammit! next time, bro. we do them every 2 months, so not all is lost! if you're interested you can follow our FB page to keep up with further events: http://facebook.com/substancesounds
  16. So not to cause any panic but we're nearly half way through 2014... scary thought? Meh, no need to fear, after all, time flies when you're having fun... or cocktails, or late nights, or LOUD NOISES. Luckily that's where Prognosis steps in and combines all of those awesome things into one crazy shenanigan packed night!!! After tirelessly trying to lure him to the Prognosis stage for a couple of years now, we have finally found a date that fits in with the schedule of globe trotting (no not the basketball team) dance floor slayer Kasey Taylor. The lad needs no introduction, having created one of Australia's most highly regarded and longest running labels Vapour, plus a new project Lo-Fi 45 with local legend Lister Cooray. Kasey has been a regular fixture in clubs all over town as late, in amongst his overseas journeys, but his Prognosis slot will be that little extra special as we've given him a set where he can unleash whatever tricks he fancies, from old to new. Matter is our next guest and is a Melbourne lad whose star continues to shine brighter. After a number of successful releases across a range of techno and progressive labels, plus sets that have turned heads of some tough critics, this will be a treat. Moskalin also stops by for his first Prognosis set. Co-founder of the successful Doesn't Matter events, Moskalin had a solid upbringing on dusty dance floors and has fine-tuned his sound to amass a solid following in clubs around town. Moskalin will be taking the tunage deeeeeep. With residents DJs J-Slyde, Simon Murphy and Aaron Static, along with visual ninja vdmo Kstati projecting onto Loop's two 30ft screens for the duration. 18. 2014 is off to a scorching start both on and off the dancefloor, so to keep that trend going and the party vibe pumpin' the Prognosis band of merry men are back for some more auditory adventures spliced with just the right amount of chaos. It's back to Loop we go with a special selection of treats to please the musical aficionado in us all! A headliner that we've been trying to lock in pretty much since inception is none other than Luke Porter. Melbourne born he headed to the UK to unleash his talent on a global audience and hasn't looked back. Production extraordinaire and a wizard behind the decks, Luke Porter is widely renowned for his amazing skills, playing some of the biggest clubs and festivals in the world. Accompanied by a slew of releases on some of the most highly regarded labels across the globe, Porter will be bringing his progressive house prowess to Loop for what will be a truly special occasion. Back from an extended stint perfecting his tan, rhyming slang and amassing an enviable collection of bragworthy dancefloor excursions in the UK, one of Prognosis's favourite brothers from another mother, Dave Juric, returns to take off right where he left off. With a knack for transfixing punters with his smooth skills, tasty tunes and ghetto swag, Juric is back to make up for lost time with a set loaded with tunes he has been hand picking specifically for his momentous return. We welcome him back to the fold with open arms. Simon Murphy, J-Slyde and Aaron Static round out the lineup with giddy excitement and eclectic musical missions to support and keep the vibe alive alongside our esteemed guests. With each doing big things around town and beyond, expect the unexpected and get there early to see the boys work their magic. No Prognosis lineup would be complete without visual accompaniment by a hypnotising, mesmerising and inspiring VJ with Manoeuvre.tv jumping on board for this one. 20. Right hand man to Substance/Prognosis and generally awesome bloke, Simon Murphy, pulled up stumps and headed off over eight months ago on a trip to the northern reaches of Australia. Some said it was a pilgrimage, others mused that he was chasing love and some just thought he was running from the police. Whatever the reason it was, Murphy has now returned home, and whilst he may be slightly thinner and a little more tanned, his love and passion for music and life in general has never been stronger. We caught up with the man to talk about his epic journey and what’s in plan now that he’s back in ‘Burn city. Head on over to our site for the full interview: http://substancesounds.net/return-of-the-murphy/
  21. Hope it goes well, guys!! Royce's track sample is sound fantastic.
  22. Spring has most definitely sprung with glorious sunshine drenching the party faithfuls’ moon tans whilst simultaneously tempting those in hibernation from their wintery slumber towards the beckoning dance floor. Translation: it's PARTY TIME! October's Prognosis takes off right where we left off with another dose of audio visual debauchery at the hands of some of Australia’s best talent. And who better to start with than one of Australia's most prolific producers, DJs and all round party gurus, Jamie Stevens. With an exhausting gig and release schedule, including a HUGE new collab on Bedrock, expect another inspiring insight into the mind of one of our biggest musical exports. The long awaited return of Prognosis' partner in crime Simon Murphy is next on the agenda as he debuts his exciting new collaborative project, Murphy’s Fabel. Teaming up with dancefloor temptress Fabel, a classically trained musician and talented DJ (who laid down an epic closing set at Prognosis last year), the pair have hit the studio this year with a number of works in the pipeline. This DJ set will fuse the finely tuned tastes of these audiophiles into something special. Gabriel Gilmour once again takes the stage to show the Prognosis massive why his musical stylings are in such high demand. The Canberra bred artist who now calls Melbourne home was a breath of fresh air on his Prognosis debut and we’re hanging for another dose. Next up, Alex David, a regular at Prognosis and around town, is on board to lay down his take on techno (and dancefloor) shenanigans. Substance founding father Taran M also drops by with a bag of deep progressive goodies that he has been saving for such a momentous occasion. Rounding out the lineup, Prognosis residents J-Slyde and Aaron Static will be doing what they do best, drinking heavily, dancing inappropriately and laying down some of the finest tunes to grace your ears this millennium. Finally, no Prognosis night would be complete without the visual wizardry of the ridiculously talented Vdmo Kstati who mesmerises all who enter the vortex that is Loop Bar. Remember: As usual, all of these tantalising treats are served to you FREE of charge. Wear comfy shoes cos you will be boogying until well after you’d promised yourself you’d be in bed. Arrive early cos waiting in line is bad for your soul. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| LINEUP: Jamie Stevens (Infusion / Chameleon / Bedrock / Microcastle) http://soundcloud.com/jamiestevens Murphy’s Fabel (Simon Murphy & Fabel) http://soundcloud.com/simon-murphy Gabriel Gilmour http://soundcloud.com/gabriel_gilmour Alex David http://soundcloud.com/alex-butler-sideprojekt J-Slyde http://soundcloud.com/jslyde Aaron Static http://soundcloud.com/aaronstatic Taran M |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| VISUALS: vdmo Kstati http://www.vdmokstati.com/ |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| WHEN: Saturday, 19th October |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| WHERE: Loop - 23 Meyers Place, Melbourne CBD |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| PRICE: 100% FREE! |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| FURTHER INFO: http://substancesounds.net/ http://facebook.com/substancesounds
