  1. My opinion is a remix should differ from the original to some extent. If you have the original stems you can use those to keep some originality of the original track. If there are vocals I believe you can rearrange it the way you like, because people are familiar with the original song.
  2. You may want a new alias to distinguish different projects. Rodi Style (hard house/hard trance) is also working as Somna (trance/prog (i guess)). I want a new alias for electro. I'm starting to produce dubstep again so I want 2 to distinguish the different styles
  3. Nah I wouldn't do this (personal opinion). There's heaps of effect lighting for well under $200. For most house parties (if this is what you're going to start with), 1 or 2 will be enough to get by. You can keep buying lights over time to add to your collection for gigs in halls and so on. It's just a matter of what you want. They all change colours and are activated by sound so work around what you wanna spend and then go hunting for what looks cool
  4. I don't mean for this to sound blunt, but if it's LED and sound activated, it's the best mobile set up you can have
  5. Haha I also have this problem
  6. My claim is to the 4 or 5 unfinished projects I have from about a month ago just sitting there lol
  7. Good to hear. Cheers buddy
  8. That's pretty funky dude. Free plugins shouldn't be overshadowed by plugs with a big price tag. The factory plugs will work a treat, and there are some awesome free stuff out there. These sounds (from my experience) involve a lot of layering and resampling (depending on what you're trying to achieve). If you're on a budget I'd get TAL and Zebralette and compliment them with factory and / or 3rd party processing tools for your effects and all that. TAL have an entire catalog of free stuff, and you can also look into BetaBugs. They also offer a wide range of free stuff. Not sure if I've gone off the mark here but I thought I'd give you another option, so it gives you time to save some coin or whatnot. Sorry if I've just straight out confused you lol
  9. I just had another read of the OP. You talk about big electro sounds. Just curious to know, what have you got in terms of processing tools ie EQ, compressor, etc?
  10. Can't go wrong with either of them buddy
  11. i will make sure i attend to that edit: done
  12. hey lads, I've been trying to overcome writers block… I've had it for weeks now i've been working on a bootleg over the last few days and here it is. Have a listen and let me know what you think https://soundcloud.com/spitfiremusic/r-yksopp-feat-susanne-sundf-r
  13. Jest checked out the website and it's actually around $75 aud. it actually looks pretty dope, might check it out. Right now I'm just demoing some VSTs that are suggested to me or I found online. Any suggestions at all will be helpful Thanks guys there are a ton of free ones out there which are real decent. these 2 are probably the better ones out there http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-noisemaker TAL Noise Maker is something i think everyone has. it's possibly the best free plugin out there, STILL! if you wanna buy one, ANA is your best bet. that thing is your best bang for your buck http://www.u-he.com/cms/zebralette Zebralette by u-He is a goodie
  14. it's an app you have to get but you need to be approved to have it or something. i read something about it the other day
  15. Found somewhere better to spend the rest of the year? Ah… just here, there and everywhere Still gonna do the states, and I'm gonna trip across to Europe too.
  16. Sonic Academy - ANA I think that's under $100 and it's pretty good. A fair few people are starting to jump on board
  17. I'm city beach way but won't be here for most of the year. I don't really have a problem driving anywhere as I spend most my time adventuring around the state anyway
  18. I don't get addicted to things I have to pay for lol In all seriousness though, I can't get off soundcloud. There's heaps of wicked stuff on there by so many unknown people!
  19. Nothing is really "overkill" for a beginner. it's whatever is in your budget. If you decide to stick to DJing (in whatever form) you'll eventually upgrade your gear anyway, so, if you got the money to buy big now and it's not gonna be a issue doing so I'd say spend the dish
  20. I don't think the jog wheels matter to be honest. If you're starting out it's going to perform the same functions as any other jog wheel. It's a minor downfall that they're small but it's a controller and most portable controllers have small jog wheels anyways
  21. I'd say the SR would be fine to start with. It's a cheap option to get you started. Headphones should be ok but I'd go and grab something with a bit more frequency range. If you're planning to DJ for a while invest in a good set of cans now. You can't go wrong with good headphones. You'll hear a few different options around here on headphones but just find one that sounds good to you. Personally, I use Technics 1210s. I've got 2 pairs and I've had them for years. They're my personal favourites
  22. I don't know whether it's an issue with time code or not but using the traktor controller it resets back to zero, even though the pitch slider is not at zero. I'm gonna make a post to the NI forums today sometime and I'll keep you posted if I get any results
  23. It seems pretty strange. I also had a failed attempt searching the web but I'll keep looking
  24. hey Traktor people, i just jumped on board this digital train and it's already too complicated for me lol every time i load a new track into Traktor the tempo resets to the standard bpm, rather than staying at +1.6% (for example) like on the cdjs. is there a way to change this so it works like the cdjs?
