  1. Mate, for that money you may as well get it brand new. I feel that gear depreciates very much like new cars, and can have the same issues that a second hand car can give you. I'd buy it brand new unless you're saving around 100-200 bucks on it second hand, in good condition
  2. Welcome matey. Ask away!
  3. Love hearts for all
  4. I personally thing hardware (and software) depreciates very quickly from the moment you purchase. I don't think second hand gear is worth a lot. Secondly, you can buy whenever you like. If you wait for sales they won't really come until you've bought all your stuff lol it's usually how it's works. Store DJ are good because they usually knock down retail price automatically (in the perth store they do). Otherwise online retailers or straight from the manufacturer are good. Try mingle with people in store and become friends. It's always good to have mates working in stores for discounts. I don't think I've paid full price for anything I own lol I'm not saying you should take advantage of the situation but it helps to save a few bucks
  5. A sub is nice but not a necessity. It helps with the low frequencies but there's all sorts of visualisers that help with that
  6. thank you to all
  7. i picked mine up from Dick Smith years ago and it seems to do the job. i think there's 6 ports in it and it's one you plug into the wall. i was told that it's better to get one that is not self powered by usb, especially if you're planning to add performance tools like dj controllers and all that
  8. good set of monitors win over headphones, but i doesn't hurt to have a good pair of headphones too. the hd25's will do the job. krk's are pretty well priced these days but good bang for your buck are the Behringer Truths. I have 6" monitors and a krk 10" sub and the whole system kicks ass! the berrys are very good for about $400 for the pair
  9. so, i guess it's time to make it relatively official and to introduce myself properly. as a lot of you know, i've been around here for a while. i am el Spitfire (for some reason i feel slightly spanish...) Spitfire now produces dubstep and will be mixing drum and bass, and all that wonderful bassy stuff. I will also remain on the forums as Spitfire, because everyone knows who i am that way now for the fun bit, I am Lab Rat! i'm about to do all the spammy junk now but before i do so, i'll tell ya a bit about the new alias. I'm producing Melbourne Bounce and all the other electro stuff under this alias. it's an excuse for a fresh start with a new sound. i have 2 tracks up on Soundcloud at the moment and just trying to boost up some followers and stuff. i wanna try get that "like my page to download" bullshit for facebook to try fish for followers. i will be making most of my tracks downloadable once things get rolling. i've got some cool stuff in the pipeline which i'm so keen to share... but not just yet anyways, here's the promo stuff. Facebook: http://facebook.com/whoislabrat Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/whoislabrat Mixlr: http://mixlr.com/lab-rat that's about it. thank you to all, and keep your ears posted for new tunes. i'll be dropping sneak peaks on Mixlr soon <3
  10. Does the z1 have an audio output? You may need to get a traktor sound card for an audio signal
  11. The Behringer will probably be a good, cheap option but i head it's a bitch to set up (i could be wrong). Personally, i'd say fork out the extra pennies and go the X1 as it's made for Traktor, therefore plug and play.
  12. One of the hardstyle guys just started using this for his live shows. Looks pretty rad
  13. The sync feature isn't such a bad thing. It allows you to be more creative with you're mixes
  14. There's another controller like the x1 that can trigger cue points I'm pretty sure
  15. I don't think so. The x1 plugs in via USB and as long as you have a line out into a mixer of some sort from your laptop I'd say you should be fine.
  16. That's fair enough. If you're already using traktor then the x1 should do ok (I've not used one). Otherwise, the s2 controller is pretty compact. That could be an option?
  17. I probably wouldn't bother with an x1. Just grab a USB hub with a few extra inputs and go from there. Which are you more concerned with, playing out or playing at home?
  18. That track was a pain in the ass lol I spent way too much time on it. Most of the time I was staring into space so had to stop and move on
  19. Hey guys, This is a house mix I did for a mates podcast. It was a one shot recording and it didn't come out too bad lol enjoy the vibes. 20. Mix was cool man Listened to about 1h20mins before I had to jump. Played some dope tracks
  21. It depends what you feel comfortable with. I use to play vinyl, then played CDs, and now I use USB's and Traktor. I only use traktor if I'm playing more than 3hrs because it's so much easier to have that with me then a external HD - just my opinion. If I play less than 3hrs (usually around 2hrs max) I'll have USB's prepared from rekordbox. Reason for that is because I got over burning a tonne of CDs lol I still like flicking through a cd wallet, it has a similar feel to flicking through your record box but I just don't have time to commit to it anymore
  22. Thank you kindly

    DJ City

Anyone on DJ City? I'm thinking about jumping in board coz it'll probably save me money from buying on Beatport. Can you find anything on DJ City or is it fairly limited?
