  1. Thanks mate!
  2. you can never have enough music so just keep compiling it until the night comes. you'll be surprised what you may have to play. depending on how they're reacting to the song is how long you'd play it out for. it's been a while since i played at any kind of birthday or private function but as long as the songs are familiar and they can sing-a-long to it they're usually the winners. i've never heard of pulse locker thing so let us know how it goes. the worst thing is getting requests from people to play tunes off youtube. trying to explain why that's not a good idea is next level shit haha

    TOTD?

finding the best stuff on spotify!
  4. yo yo! here's my last tune for 2016. hope you feel the vibes
  5. And a master of none haha thanks man. I've managed to finish a few tunes in the new space so we'll see how it goes. There's definitely a boost in productivity with the new controller and the new monitors are helping my mixes sound better so I'm off to a good start
  6. Pretty much what Mitch said. Make sure you've got all bases covered with tunes. Have a lot of everything and play requests - that'll make your night so much easier haha it'll help to chat to your mate and a few people that are going to get a gauge on what they're expecting to hear as for reading a crowd Mitch is spot on. It can be explained but only really learnt by experiencing it. If you know your music you can feed off the vibe of the crowd. Being an 18th and your mates it shouldn't be too bad but they're still gonna have the same attitude as you would expect a crowd in a club to have so it's all about picking the right tunes in that moment.
  7. Hi friend! Good to see some more Perth peeps jumping on board welcome
  8. Glad to hear it
  9. Hai. Welcome well done on the tjr mix
  10. Most people are lol they're super simple to make using layering techniques. I'll give you a basic rundown with something you can try with what you have. Get a thick kick with a nice fat / heavy thump - this will be the main body of the kick. Next I would suggest a short stabby clap, snare or perc sound but feel free to experiment. This will give that crack that you're after. These samples are usually compressed anyway but we're gonna go ahead and compress it even more so they're even shorter and stabbier. It will basically sound like a small tick as if you were tapping a pen on a desk. I can't give exact settings because it's gonna vary between the samples you use. Alternatively to compression, you can use a transient shaping tool. Next, and if you want to / if it sounds good, get a short attack hi hat. The stabbier the better and this could just add some extra brightness to the initial click. It's totally up to you if you wanna use it or not so just play around with it. If you're in Ableton you can group them all together or if you're in Logic you can send it to a bus (I don't know how you would do it in other software). In that grouped or bussed track, glue it all together with compression / EQ / other filters or modulators so it all sounds nice. It'll take some experimenting until you get something you like but it's more rewarding once you do. You can always use a drum machine like Battery to manipulate the envelopes and filters to get a completely different sound all together.
  11. to be honest, you can use what you already have. if you're looking for those real snappy, minimal kicks they're just layers of overly compressed claps or high pitched ticks or kicks.
  12. It should just read, "he can sing and he pulls to bitches"
  13. Here's the latest addition. A Roland A49. I prefer a 61 key but as space is limited and I wanted some privileges of playing a piano again (not using a 2 octave bit of crap and drawing my notes in). This feels nice for my playing style. The keys seem nicely weighted and aren't sticky and cheap like playing on an M-Audio for example. It has very limited functions but thats ok for me because I have no intentions of using pads or sliders that are on most midi keyboards. I just want the keys so I'm happy with this purchase. It's quickly become a sentimental item for me as it was the last thing that allowed me to spend some time with a good friend before he passed away a few days ago.
  14. Not really. Depends where you go and who's in charge really. Otherwise vinyl is pretty much dead in venues
  15. My mate spilt vinager on his computer and it kinda toasted it. I think the hard drive is ok but what's the best way to try recover it? Would it be easier to take it out and find a cable with a USB connection or does a mr tech man need to see it?
  16. That list is also a joke. Why the fuck is snails and slushii on that list?!
  17. It's identical mate. The only difference is you have a computer with all your tunes rather than a record box with 30kgs of records in it. The songs are exactly the same just on different media so transitions are the same
  18. Buy the cable to make it work and happy days!
  19. Another great watch. It's worth having a look at this and the Techno one I posted in the Techno & Minimal Section
  20. Interesting watch for anyone who's interested. edit: since there's only 2 parts, both have been attached
  21. probably different enough not to warent any investigation if i'm honest
  22. Second screen would be good but maybe in the next place. Not gonna do too much more now
  23. Thanks lad. Just picked up my midi controller so I'll post an update soon. Got a Roland A49. It's simple and perfect for what I need
  24. Between this and my car things have been a bit hectic lately but as the bulk of this is done, I thought I'd share some pics. I gotta get some more bits and when I do I'll update this thread. I need to apologise about the lack of pics too. I don't have many from back in the days so we're gonna go waaayyy back lol Some of you may remember things looking like this. Picture is from many years ago now Since 90% of that stuff doesn't exist anymore, that whole section was going to waste so I decided that was going to be my new studio location as where I was (lack of pic) was utter shit. After some planning and "careful" consideration, I started hacking. I removed everything apart from the left side box and that was more of a structural decision more than anything else. Then I made new supports for the bench top and a leg down the side to hold the weight. Bench top back on Everything plugged back in. I can finally get rid of those Berry Truths I use to have and start using my Fostex again. I gotta do something about those cables into the sub but everything else is tucked away nicely so it doesn't look like a total eye-sore! At the moment I have old phone books (coz no one cares about those anymore) under my speakers to give them some extra height and dampening. There's enough pages there for them to work quite well. I'm getting a new midi controller (just gonna go 49 key because I can't fit a 61 key there) and I gotta find some foam / sound proofing to put on the wall. I used a pillow between the sub and the new side panel and it works a treat. The sound is already so much better in this new lay out. Not just the speakers but there's so much less phasing and mud from my old set up. The sound travels a lot better and will continue to get better as I find all the mushy spots and pad them up. I apologise for the bland description of everything but thought it would be good to show you guys the new workstation.
  25. Dunno if this goes here but I think it's pretty chill anyways... can move if you like
