  1. i feel like a douche, I've been working at this for hours, and just after I posted this up I worked it out. Thanks for clearning my mind ADJF!
  2. I also posted this in the mixer section, but its also a question so I thought I'd post it up here aswell First off I have a pretty urgent question I need answered by someone who has this mixer or knows anything about it. At the moment, I've only got one serato control vinyl, so, I've just been playing tracks through the scratch live software on the 2nd deck. Up until now its been great, I assigned my "joysticks" on the mixer to do the basic functions, play/pause, next song, previous song but all of a sudden the Joysticks aren't working, they move on the scratchlive software but theyre not activating the functions I assigned to them. I've tried, putting the scratchlive software in every single mode ie the "hardware" and "prepare" etc. I've tried changing the functions of the joysticks, but nothing works. I just reloaded the software and have the most recent updates. My feeling is, that this problem is probably easily solved and is a matter of pressing one button or activating a certain setting, but I've tried everything and I'm pretty much at breaking point. As I said, the joystick animations on screen move around, so the software recognises that I'm moving them, also the other knobs and buttons on the mixer are working perfectly fine. I'm 99% that this isnt a hardware problem because the joysticks are working fine, I just cant seem to get them back to a setting where they activated the functions which have been assigned to them. Any help much appreciated, Kyle
  3. this is a sweet idea. peeps can give crit and suggestions on technique which is good for noobs like myself. I've had the tables for about a week now... do I qualify??
  4. cheers for that. I've actually got all qberts vids now. They're a great help though especially as he hamster scratches aswell.
  5. sweet. I'm among some good company then. good to know
  6. cheers for that eggssell. My mixer has the reversal option, which reverses both the channel faders and the cross fader. I've found it near impossible scratching without it so I guess I'll stick to "hamster style" Is hamster style popular? or do most just stick with the normal way?
  7. Thanks for the reply bro. I'm finding it heaps easier to cutting out the sound by sliding towards the turntable, so I'll stick to that.
  8. ANOTHER QUESTION: This probably sounds like a noob question, but I have watched heaps of scratching videos and noticed this. Some DJs will slide the cross fader towards the turntable they want to cut out while some slide it towards the other turntable to cut out the sound. Is there any difference? Is one way better than the other or is it just personal preference? cheers
  9. my channel faders are set to " fast" which means they cut out when i hit the bottom, so yeah they work pretty much the same as the cross fader. I find that when I use the crossfader, I do everything backwards. I cut it out when I want it in.... But if it's something that i gotta learn, I better just stick at it. Just wondering if this is something that most beginners find??? I just automatically found it alot easier than using the crossfader... cheers
  10. So I've been using the tables for about a week now, and I've found that I scratch alot better using the channel faders..... Just wonder if this is normal and is it an acceptable way to scratch? cheers, Kyle.
  11. thanks for the reply Caleupe. I've checked out a few vids which have been really helpful. Also downloaded some Qbert tutorials which I plan to have a look at this weekend. cheers
  12. cheers wazza. great tips for beat matching
  13. lots of good info. cheers man. I've downloaded a few torrents worth of effect/acapellas and intrumental tracks which have been a great help. I just don't want to get ahead of myself, feel I should get some basics down first. I'll definitely check out the docos and videos you suggested. cheers
  14. So, I just picked up some 2nd hand technics 1200 mk2 and a Rane TTM 57SL mixer. Previous to this I have mostly used CDJs so I'm a little lost in the world of vinyls. So far I've been pretty much just mucking around on the gear, the Serato interface has made it really easy to jump straight into it. I have two basic queries I'd love some comment/feedback on. Firstly, any suggestions on how I can hone my turntable skills. Links, suggested beats, or your own experience when learning. Opinions on what I should concentrate on first, how important you think each element of turntablism is and where I should invest my time and practice. Secondly, what is your opinion on the process of learning on turntables. What I mean by this, is; Do you believe that learning is more a natural progression or is it something that requires things like repitition etc. that represent a more rigid/tradition learning method. I guess to make answering these questions easier, my taste in music ranges from minimal tech to hip hop, But my passion lies in hip hop and this is where I want to take my turntable skills. Any knowledge you can drop on these queries, or anything you think is relevant for a newb like myself, I'd really appreciate. cheers, Kyle. MOD. If this is in the wrong thread, please feel free to move it.
