  1. p-daddy's been out there for a minute, this is just his first candys gig. anyways nice one mate
  2. da nu dayz about three years ago i decided i wanted to start actually mixing the mixtapes i made for my mates so i started looking for techies on ebay. after about six months and a fruitless effort (and many many outbids); and because dj warehouse having a sale i bit the bullet and bought my first setup. 2 x stanton ST-150's; Reloop IQ2 (the non USB model); Traktor Scratch Pro. in total about $2.5K i didnt buy speakers and have been using a technics stereo system i already had, it was one of the last to be made in japan before they moved to thailand(?), and i was using some year old skull candies that i had already owned. as these snapped after a month of djing i bought XD53's for about $200+. in terms of playing out since then. nada. well except playing to some drunken grrls dancing around my place in the wee hours of the morning. which is fun but occassionally gets dangerous. once i saw someone falling towards my flat screen, then my flat screen falling (it was like an accident where it must have been only 5 seconds but it ran in slow motion); but a lucky grab saved it in time!
  3. ye olde days my old man had a marantz "stack" or component system. but in terms of "djing", my older bro and me got a cheap all in one (vinyl player, tape deck, radio) when i was about 8. about a month after we got it one of the holmies came around scratched a record, broke the needle and it stayed like that for many years!! then in terms of playing out i was involved in two ways from when i was 13. one was making mixtapes which we played out of boomboxes or disco robos at parties. i even sold a few when i was 13. these mixtapes were made on cassette tape and was a collection of music i dubbed from another casstte, recorded off vinyl, or recorded off the radio. the important part was having tapes for different parts of the party and making sure each song flowed into the other because it was premade. i would go back to making "mixtapes" on cd's for the holmies every summer when we started driving. the next way was back in the day at house parties. the party holder would rent two turnies, a mixer, speakers. and in most cases a strobe light, a uv light, disco lights and a smoke machine. then it was usually a free for all of people taking turns behind the decks. between me and my siblings we had a few at our place so i got plenty of time behind decks. not a lot of beatmatching, just cross fading but not always intro/ outro, sometimes youd go just a verse of banger to banger shouting switch. haha. and because i had my share of 12 inches i can remember with a few mates having to cart records in crates on our skateboards from one suburb to the next. this all ended when i was 16 or 17 as some of the kids started buying these things referred to as toys (which later would be dubbed cdj's ), and because they owned it the community vibe of everyone having a go on the decks went away. admittedly the beatmatchig improved but it was a change we all had to get use to....
  4. yeah the end of the vinyl allows you scroll up and down thru tracks. so if you in absolute mode. you can move needle to this section, scroll thru tracks and when you find the one you want put the needle back to the start and that track will load. another cool feature is you can set it so it goes to next track when you flip the vinyl. so if your tracklist is ordered, you can just flip to go to the next song.
  5. The circles in first pic are farked. But second pic look okay. Did you change the drop down to timecode. Also while trouble shooting dont load songs. Just hit RST underneath the timecode circle and see if it says 10/15 minute timecode
  6. the "eeeee" as the timecode is playing means you are actually hearing the timecode as opposed to using it to control. above the timecode circles there should be a drop down box, make sure timecode is selected.
  7. what are the timecode circles showing as the record plays
  8. answer some of these, may help diagnose
  9. have you setup deck A and deck B output routing in preferences to match where the output cables are? And have you rewired your master to your sound system
  10. you must not be setup be set up as external, because if you were the music would not come out of your PC.
  11. damn i cant find the fred where i helped chev setup his tsp ages ago. anyways im assuming you using the multi cores. now just fo checking WIRES the bent L & R RCAs go into the turnies. the other end of the multi-core should say sound card input; and sound card output. these go into the audio 8, making sure you get the inny verus outy right. then the final end of the multicore should be labelled phono mixer; and line mixer. these go into the mixer in the relevant spots. again make sure mixer is on phono; ALSO if there are switches to assign the line input make sure you have chosen the right one (i.e. like mine has a switch for CD when using back plu and AUX when using front plug) SOFTWARE make sure set to external mixer then in preferences makes sure yu specify what inputs the decks are plugged into. and also specify the outputs
  12. cupe the master outs should be going into whatever sound system you are playing. you can then put the second master out, or booth out into the audio 8 for recording (again you have to set this up in the preferences) EDIT: mitch ftw
  13. cupe what mixer? is the "eeee" loud or just soft? what have you setup in preferences for input? have you selected external mixer? ALSO restart and dont load a track, but put the needle on the record and answer these: what are the timecode circles showing? (make sure you change it to the one showing the circle not the one with the rotating dot)? what lights are showing on your soundcard as the record plays?
  14. if all you hear is "eeeeee", that usually happens when your mixer is set to phono. make sure you change it to line. i know this usually doesnt comprehend as you are using turntables. but its because the phono signal is going to sound card, but then the output from the sound card back to the mixer is line. and for those wondering why are there cables going into phono then, this is so you can pass thru the sound card when you are not using traktor. (cupe you prob know this but just made it real simple and detailed in case another beginner finds this fred)
  15. while we are at it for tips. dont update to the latest drivers or software version, its buggy as fug. using the audio 8 control panel settings, set it to phono as opposed to timecode (apparently this works better?). adjust latency to the best of your system, there is no right and wrong and unless you can cut as fast as q-bert you are not going to notice anything less than 10ms.
  16. cupe what mixer? also watch out as i think they changed cables up with the release of the new audio 6 and audio 10 and tsp 2. anyways, the other end of the cables should be two going into the phono of the mixer, and two going into the CD/ Line of the mixer. And then make sure your mixer is switched to CD/ line (this is prob the number one mistake made). also make sure whatever you wire up you also select in the preferences in the software
  17. bump for the dude that was looking for techies and pde2001, where are the rekkids!
