  1. funk house / disco, mixed up with a bit of prog mid 09. tried hip hop, failed massively so went back to house. i even tried not beatmatching perfectly and use transition techniques, still sounded like balls.
  2. could be more than one DJ on deck. but yes still not the best setup

riva starr - i was drunk -knocked up noise remix oh man havent heard this in donkeys. came on after my friday snuffle. done by jonnyb's partner in crime i believe. i like this version better than riva's OG which i didn't really like. try and track it down. rewind selectah!!! \:D/
  5. its friday night and the weekends here i need to go get down, wheres the shuffle, mr deee-eee-jaayyy.... the cool kids - takin' a break (cut it up) not sure how many people know the cool kids. sir mikey rocks and chuck english. but awesome slow rappers usually over very minimal beats. their bake sale EP which was a collection of internet released tracks and a couple of new tracks is a fab album. love every track on there. they were on the cusp of fame, but just as a lot of rap artists who then sign to a label their full release was delayed for a gazzillion years. came out last year, and it was great. especially because between that and bake sale all we had were mixtapes which weren't all that this was from one of the mixtapes, and yeah pretty mediocre. even worse as the mixtape host puts c-c-c-cannon over every freaking verse.
  6. i wouldnt be so quick to judge. she could be using track 2 to shuffle thru the tracks to find the track she is looking for. so looking at the laptop will be no different than digging thru your crate trying to find that album (at which point you too would not be engaging at that point). or she could be cueing her record, at which i still applaud her as i notice a lot of dvs djs these days using relative mode and just hitting a button for cue. which kind of defeats the purpose because you have just in essence turned your turntable into a big cdj player. why not just use cdj's then. all that photo shows is their setup is extremely bad for a grrl with her length arms.
  7. What an awesome night!!! He rocked up with a live band ish. Well a drummer with a massive kit, a guitarist and dot da genius (his partner in crime in wzrd, and a producer he has worked with since day one) on some midi keys and an analog synth. now other than the ratatat and mgmt track, there wasnt a lot of session musicians on his recordings so hearing them in a live performed version was amazing. soundtrack to my life sounded sooooo biiiggg. He did a nice mix of tracks from both releases and a couple from the mixtape. He did two new tracks from the upcoming wzrd, even playing the guitar not just doing a bono like he did with erase me. Rumour has it that even when recording the second album he would picknup the guitar and bust riffs and get the producer to work with that even though he never even knew how to play. But he has been learning. some of the best tracks were covers, yeezy's all of the lights and hendrix' hey joe. The top 4o tracks obviously git the crowd geed up; that guetta track, erase me, pursuit of happiness. Anyways another top night. Enmore was a nice venue for it

  9. And finally something that shows cudi on the hook something he does extremely well. Up there with nate or riri.
  10. And from the final album man on the moon II - the legend of mr rager Mojo so dope. Another one of my fave. I had this in that failed hip hop mix last year. The End. Cudi getting his gangsta on. A mafioso story telling style, not something he does. Feat the holmie GLC and chip tha ripper and nicole wray
  11. A couple from his first release man on the moon I - the end of day Soundtrack to my life. Some Emo rap hahah. This is one of my fave of his Hyyerr ft Chip the ripper. This track always reminds me of bone thugs, who are also from cleveland
  12. A couple from the second mixtape Dat kid from cleveland Look up in da stars feat wale. This was before either dropped a release but had a lot of internet buzz Ask about me ft chip the ripper. Chip is another cleveland artist yet to release a full long player. But he is awesome. And the two are perfect together
  13. Wu huu cudder tomorrow! Been reading d12 still havent shown up. Damn that sucks balls for people who paid to see them. Anyway some toonz for those that may only know the top 40 kid cudi. A couple from that first mixtape a kid named cudi. One of the best albums ever made! And it was free. Mowie wowie Pillow talk. A rap lovesong With one of my fave lines of all time. "You smell good like some new shoes... just like my bathing apes" hahah
  14. oops with 112 i meant 116, and its not in syd its in adelaide. hahaha. anyways some links record store - http://www.therecordstore.com.au/ soulclap records - http://www.soulclaprecords.com/ clinic 116 (Adelaide) - http://clinic116.com/ juno (UK) - http://www.juno.co.uk/ turntable lab (US) - http://www.turntablelab.com/index.html oh yeah forgot about underground hip hop in the us - http://www.undergroundhiphop.com/ lopez records only has facebook. and JB is obvious
  15. oh yeah sol not having a go at you but not sure why you keep suggesting this. lots of clubs use turnies. i went for like months where every place i hit was using turntables. and i believe the percentage increases even more when speaking in terms of hip hop, which the OP has indicated is his poison. yes some people play hip hop on cdj's (wu tangs dj uses em) but i have not yet seen it at a hip hop event i have attended.
  16. ohhh AUD finally making ground on the GBP. i think they saying 0.68!. time for a juno haul soon i thinks
  17. haha spaghetti network
  18. my mate got his st120's second hand, and they get extensive wear from a million hands (dudes house was a bit of a hangout for wannabe djs who always took the chance to hop on), and they lasted a few years. in fact are still alive but hidden somewhere as the holmie inherited 3 1200's. and ive had my st150's for 2 years. but yeah i use them 10-15 times a year for djing (and maybe another 10-15 times just listening to rekkids). so i think the stantons are quite robust. whether theyll still be working in 10-20 years, ill have to wait and see.
  19. okay torque techs 1.5 kg stanton st 120/ 150 4.5 kg so the OEMs above should all have roughly the same as the stantons. as you can see, if techs were good enuff for the best then you should be fine with anything around 1.5 kg. note, torque isnt everything though. there is wow and flutter (ability to keep constant speed); start and stop speed; that pitch control thing where you can speed a record up but keep the same pitch (though usually sounds synthetic) and so on and so on. also when you looking make sure to check whether they are loaded with cartridges and keep that cost in mind if they arent. in the end if you stick to one of the ones above, or a lower model from stanton like the T80's you should be okay.
  20. i cant find the original list of OEM tables i found on skratchworx but here is a list from scratchlounge. hope its accurate. so all of these tables all have the same basic guts, but each will have there own variations on materials used, pitch levels, other features. so all of these tables should be good. also look out for vestax brand. it is the choice of qbert and a lot of the turntablists who were not happy with techs. note ive only ever used stanton st120's, st150's and tech 1200 mk2's. so cant make any personal recommendations Synq XTRM1 Stanton T.120/T.120C Reloop RP6000 Stanton STR8-150/ST 150 Akiyama Acura Citronic PD45 Omnitronic DD5250 American Audio HTD4.5 taken from here http://www.skratchlounge.com/index.php? ... urntables/ i notice that the citronic model you have linked is not listed. which means it is probably of a lesser torque.
  21. in terms of lappys. i use a six plus year old PC running XP and using traktor scratch pro. works perfect. not just for djing but i also edit movies for mates in premiere. unless you have a shit box im sure your laptop is fine.
  22. i havent used mixvibes wazza is your man. give me a tick to relook what torque is what, and find that super OEM list. that is def a cheap price. but last thing you want is to end up with gear you'll replace in less than 12 months. so hold up a tick. also check ebay and trading post, as feb & march should be around the time some lucky people whose parents bought them fresh gear but they have now decided sailing yachts is more fun, will be flogging it off. whats yer budget again?
  23. In regards to tips.... Ummm as in other posts i totally suck balls at mixing hip hop. I bought the roc raida dj guide which is pretty good. And so is the extra bit of the documentary scratch where ztrip does a tutorial. I love this tute. Doesnt translate to me learning but the concepts are in my head. Tips on scratching, i think there is a sticky in beginners. But yeah look up dj angelo's tutorials. Whats good with these is he runs it so you can play along.
  24. I wasnt being lazy just at lunch and rushing else would have got list for you. In terms of rekkids, which state you from. Syd got record store, 112, i think victor lopez records has reopened somewhere all of which do hip hop. Jb in galleries vic also have plenty. And dont forget second hand stores, vinnies, and record fairs. Online there is juno, turntablelab, discogs. I wouldnt necessarily say cheap though.
