hey ed welcome well with old school hip hop theres a couple of us ol' timers here! and a couple of the lads get into "oldish" school (albeit from the golden era 90's). in terms of rnb im down with new jack! or 2 step from the early noughties. and love the old school house. anything with a bit of funk (horns and keys) or chilled with some fat funky bass. in terms of effects and loops.... ummm dont use em so ill let the other cats hop on it.

what im finding jim is at a lot of the hip hop events i hit, i see a lot of the old schoolers bringing their kidds in. so yeah there will be whole gen of hip hoppers; househeads; junglists; and ravers who have kids that will be right into djing. i mean even my nephew played around with my kit once, and so on his next bday his old man ended up buying him some reloop cdj's.

not sure if it contributes much as lenovo doesnt seem to be on your cards. but ive had two lenovos in the last six years from work. and they are both doggs balls compared to my perso laptop; an asus thats about 6 years going on 7 (dual core 2.33Ghz, 4GB Ram, 80 GB HD, XP). start up, browsing, excel, PDF rendering, everything. runs so much better on the asus. i mean i only got my latest lenovo only last year (thinkpad T410 with an i5 2.53Ghz, it says 2.98GB RAM??) and it still runs shitter than a machine 5-6 yrs older. with the experience ive had i would never personally buy a lenovo. could be just work buys the cheap ones but yeah i think they are slow as buggery.

1200 and 1210 are essentially the same, the 10 just denotes black as opposed to silver. there were some black 1200's with the switchable voltage but only sold in japan.

anyone in sydney tonight the next round of secret walls (live art battles) are at oxford art factory tonight http://secretwalls.com.au/sydney/#/leaderboard tonight is apeseven versus okay ive spoken about these before (previously known as secret wars, not sure if marvel threatened to sue ) but basically two artists have a set time to complete an artwork using only black inks or paint. and its accompanied by a DJ. then there is a judging panel and a crowd component to vote the winner. surprisingly gets quite intense in the last ten minutes.

hey mate dont know if the djm900 has a built in sound card, but traktor works differently. software is key enabled. so cant just download. the type of software you have traktor pro or traktor scratch also determines whether you can use it as a dvs. EDIT: beaten

i usually play around for an hour or two on the fly and unplanned then i look at what i played and then pick out a few things that worked (not necessarily making a planned set, but more making a list of songs that work) then ill hit record and see what comes out. its usually sub-par, and ill have two or three go's at it, chopping and chaning each time. then i go to bed. wake up, hit record and smash out an okay mix. i have to do the hour or two messing about because i usually go one to two months of actually no play at a time. and also because i chew through music on a weekly basis, and try not to listen to the same song within 10 days of each other. so i dont know my songs in terms of length of intro, breakdowns etc. speaking of which though, i once tried to plan when ill mix in tracks and got super frustrated with it. because maybe i couldnt beatmatch quick enough etc. so i never do that now. just while beat matching ill listen to the incoming track get a feel for how where im coming in sounds. and then just wait for the best time to drop it. but yeah agree with everyones tips above.

ummm cant you just return it and then buy an empath from them? im pretty sure after 3 days they will be pretty cool with that assuming you havent messed it up

ofwgkta crew mellowhype coming out with their new album in october "numbers". first single kills!! gotta very old school neptune produced type sound. And hodgy beats (the higher pitched rapper and one of my fave rappers right now) even has some pharrell moves going when he raps. But no surprise since odd future are all neptune/nerd/star trak geeks. anyways loving this
