  1. yeh wrx thats a wicked beat. im liking planet asia.
  2. okay for today, staying in the 90's with some OG death row shit. from day one on the chronic album, features and posse tracks was a regular thing on all albums. some people may not know death row also handled many film sound tracks which are full of posse gold. this one was from the short film murder was the case. this was produced by soopafly, a regular producer for snoop and the dpg. prob one of my fave tracks from the death row days. snoop, daz, kurupt, swoop g, lil c style - who got some gangsta shit
  3. nice log cabin crew, way old school murs
  4. nah it was initially. but now its just the hip hop track o the day. so go for it. same goes for everyone! all the hip hop things
  5. taking it back to the early 90's. from a lighter shade of browns second release (and the one that crossed them over "Hip Hop Locos"", featuring a whole lot of other mexican rappers. not sure who did beats, DTTX of LSOB with others did the bulk of production on most tracks. lighter shade of brown ft kaos, street mentality, pee bee, aztlan nation, ALT - interrogated cause i'm brown
  6. for my monday selection (and prob for the rest of this week) ill stick to the posse theme. while posse tracks were done since the beginning of hip hop with mates, label mates or randoms featuring on a track (native tongues has been mentioned many a time). in the wake of the end of death row and bad boy records a few little "collectives" started coming together, where they would all show up on each others albums. such as the cash money boys, the flipmode squad, the soul aquarians, the dungeon family. the latter of which is the one i have chosen. this collective has a lot of familiar faces (outkast; goodie mob who included cee-lo; sleepy brown). their beats were done by organised noise which included sleepy brown dungeon family - trans df express
  7. nice posse track! well technically a super group hehe. yeh i know the track and a few more. while my west coast love meant i missed out on a lot of NY stuff till heaps later, i was always a massive fan of big pun (who i know was just an associated act). and of course gangstarr. so D.I.T.C. came in the radar.
  8. last of the double ups here is some local stuff from earlier this year (late last year). coming from hilltop hoods last one, drinking from the sun. Beats by hilltop member Suffa, and featuring lotek from UK and Black Thought from The Roots. hilltop hoods ft lotek & black thought - living in bunkers and some old school hilltop, and prob one of my faves (because i like posse tracks). production again by suffa. But the verses bw suffa and pressure are done by a whole bunch of local spitters (as below) hilltop hoods - blueblooded Verse 1: Suffa Verse 2: Mortar Verse 3: Trials and Sesta Verse 4: Hau Verse 5: Drapht Verse 6: Vents Verse 7: Muphin and Pegz Verse 8: Robby Balboa Verse 9: Honz Verse 10: Pressure
  9. that was awesome man. Gotta check this cat out. hmm not sure if all DJs would get it, just us old folk! mixtapes for grrls. nice
  10. hey saturday i wish it was saturday nght seven nights a week... otay for today something from the last murs & 9th wonder collabo (last as in the latest, but they have also sad this is the last one), "The Final Adventure"". production by 9th wonder. Murs & 9th Wonder It's Over and here is one from the previous one, Fornever. again beautiful production by 9th and featuring one of the best rhymers ever, Kurupt of the dogg pound. Murs & 9th Wonder ft Kurupt - Fornever
  11. flyday serrection a couple of tracks from albums this year. first one from nas'latest life is good. beats by his long time collaborator salaam remi, and featuring the queen of hip hop soul mary j blige nas ft mary j blige -reach out the next from the one touted as the next dr dre protege, kendrick lamar. though kendrick did already have a fair bit of buzz in the hip hop circles, getting the dre co-sign puts a lot of weight on his shoulders. this was from his first aftermath record release (second full release) good kid m.a.a.d. city. recording having already begun with the album, dr dre was only involved in executive producing. this track was produced by grammy awarded producer jack splash. and again features mary j kendrick lamar ft mary j blige - now or never
  12. thursdays pickity picks didnt take long for me to go back to odd future. now "free", earl sweatshirt dropped the vid for his first single off his first solo today. arguably wolf gangs best rapper (i still think mike G may have more flows, my personal fave is still hodgy beats). cant wait to see what this album has to offer. this one is reasonably dark and moody, but very personal. and given his slow style you can hear every word. produced by christian rich (who are the hassan brothers). earl sweatshirt - chum ill stick w OF for now. here is a track from frank ocean's channel orange release. i picked the one that has earl on it, and it is one of my faves on the album. lovin the keys, and both frank and earl smash it. the beats for this track and most on the album were done by malaysian producer Malay along with Frank himslef. frank ocean feat earl sweatshirt - super rich kids EDIT: oh another special live feature. too bad this wasnt syd and i wasnt there. was spewing frank didnt make the trip in jan, but it was still a hella show. anyways this vid was good if only the crowd shut up during earls bit
  13. ill try to check it sometime. im sure ive heard the name maybe over at ozhiphop, or maybe ive seen him open somewhere.
  14. the wednesday double is from Public Enemy the first one from their latest album Evil Empire. cant find any credits but i assume like most of their catalog beats are by the bomb squad (vietnam sadler and the shocklee brothers). this one features davy DMX and makes reference to his own classic track One For Treble Public Enemy feat Davy DMX - 2 (Respect) the next one was from their second album It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold us Back. this was the first PE album i heard, my bro got it for his bday in the late 80's and i still have it. this def was done by the bomb squad. this is a great album, which many say can never be replicated due to the changes/ difficulties in clearing in samples after the historic biz markie court case. (for those that havent seen copyright criminals check it for some history). anyways this is one of my fave PE tracks. some in the dance scene may know tricky's version Public Enemy - Black Steel in the hour of chaos as a bonus here is a live version. filmd in the metro sydney (and yes i was there ). you can see why i love hip hop w a live band
  15. when she starts to let the "Freshhhh" go (i think somewhere in the middle) is awesome. it even pushes Q Bert to start changing his up and lets the "Oh Yeah" play out.
  16. because in the end regardless of medium, the amount of music used is the amount of music you can fit in a set. and thats the amount of royalties not being collected
  17. yeh but thats 200 CD's being used for that night. the dude could still have terrabytes at home of pirated music which he burns as he needs. which is the preferred way right when using CDs
  18. your kidding rght? CD's brought about the pirate DJ's as people would burn a CD and then share amongst the masses. it then became rip a CD, load on the internet for the masses EDIT: not to mention even when the likes of beatport and juno came about. it hasnt stopped people from sharing the file they bought and then burning onto a CD. i have heard of people sharing entire hard drives of songs.
  19. fark me the dexterity in sara's fingers is amazing
  20. years ago like in'09 i posted the vid of these two kids (sara & ryusei) who were 8 and 5 in the video. (i remember always cracking it at 2.20, when ryusei looks at the camera then dances). anyways they all grown up and seem to be just as good as ever. even matching it with one of the best ryusei still using the qbert sanctioned vestax QFO
  21. the two for tuesday.. first up from the man with iron fists soundtrack, from idle warship (talib kweli & res). i mentioned idle warship last year when they dropped their last album, which was one of the best of 2011. the beats on this track is produced by frank dukes and BADBADNOTGOOD. now i had never heard of frank dukes, but he does most of the album on the soundtrack and after some research has worked w some of my fave artists (ghostface and danny brown) idle warship - get your way (sex is a weapon) sticking on the Wu tip (well the soundtrack is for RZA's film) some old school shit!! Method man - Method Man
  22. The Maschine itself is a MIDI controller. It is combined natively with the production software Maschine, but it can be used with any software that can take MIDI signals. EDIT: you actually get massive and a shyte load other wad of software with it too
  23. aiight so i missed a week because i was off eating croissants and shit, so will double up all this week. in honour of the french, a couple of tracks from that way.all ed banger records. Both not particularly hip hop but they do have raps in them! first up uffie, who i know gets a lot of hate. I actually quite like her, for what is essentially a pop artist. anyways here is a cover of a cover (being hers was more a cover of the chicks on speed version, which was covering a tom tom club track). beats done by the late dj mehdi uffie - wordy rappinghood the next one also involves dj medhi with his project with riton, and featuring kid sister carte blanche - do! do! do!
