hey.. i scoped dj tutor for the first time in donkeys. anywho he links to a dj short-e (which i dont think is the same dj shortee who put out the good 101 dvd's). anywho her site also looked good for scratching info.
-
welcome man. im down w/ hippity hop, and i too use control vinyl. i found z-trips how to part of the scratch documentary really helpful, as well as shortees dj 101. if you want to get into scratching, i suggest joining qberts skratch uni (not that ive done it but it looks awesome). its $60 for 3 months and it has 100's of vids plus you can upload your own. definitely grab one or two dirt style records battle records. comes w/ plenty of basic loops to practice scratching over or use in beat juggling. ellaskins (dj tutor) also really good, he does a few explicitly on hip hop and soul and showing how it has different time signatures and stuff. and if you've read around i too am a newb, but i found that just by watching people really helps. and what im doing now is deconstructing some of my fave mixtapes, looking for bpm changes, transition styles, genre changes, blends, scratches etc,

eggssell replied to CBG's topic in House & Disco
hey man.. just checked all your sound cloud tracks (work cock blocks it)... anywho i love this. i dont know the orig but i really like Nadastrom.. this shyte is phat yo. if it ends up in one of my mixes ill give you some mad props!! biggety bump as i know this is old. but it rocks!! -
damn.. i finally logged into beatport to check whats avail and realised theres more then just the genre ones on the splash page. if you hit charts in the last 7 days it opens up even more by dj/ producer
-
they're at it again! 99 cent sale for the next 3 days, but only for 10 tracks of each genre...some good stuff. bout 50% old 50% new (to newish). more credit again!!..heh damn bought heaps of stuff this week... got kid sister ultraviolet, the blackroc collabo cd (this has prob taken the best album of the year so late in the game), and jb having a buy 2 get 1 free on their $9.99 selection. so i picked up dr dre chronic 2001, best of daft punk, pet shop boys singles collection (ha ha... there'll be some good samples, and bridges to loop on this one!!)
-
oh yeah? i thought i had read people saying keep them all on the one power bar, but hey its worth a try. ill do it over the w/e. anyone else have any experience with the other options (i.e. assuming others use lap tops in their setups)
-
its sydney bro... i think its taken over san fran as capitol of the world. its all good as long as everyones having fun (and assuming your not trying to hook up, then it just sucks azz!)ha ha and these days i see the photos of fests with everyone in flouro singlets and faded denim short shorts (and thats the guys), cant tell the diff from gay or straight anywho!! he he back in the day the best clubs/ events were the gay run ones anywho, of course dance music is more mainstream now but like i said as long as you keepin the crowd rockin its all good! awesome to hear it went well for ya. if you minus the michael moment.

yeah it was on my crappy lappy. ill out put it out into the stereo and crank it tonight. hmmm. but it sounded very much like chicago house w/ more treble, so your saying it actually doesnt have that treble and has more bass... then isnt it chicago style house... ha ha. like i said man how do you classify these things. tomato tomaytoe

courtesy of Professor Wiki Pedia "Old-format serial number: NHOJF20765 (SL-1200 manufactured 1982) The first digit shows the year when the turntable was manufactured. These serial numbers contain no indication of the month of manufacture. It should be noted that serial numbers in this format contain no letters following digits. New-format serial number: GE4FB001154 (SL-1200MK2 manufactured June 2004) The first digit shows the year when the turntable was manufactured, while the month of manufacture is indicated by the letter following it. Months are coded as letters between A and L inclusive; A indicates January, B indicates February, and so on, so F indicates June." the flaw is you cant tell the decade, so 1994 will show the same as 2004. so you have to gauge with what they say (i.e. when they bought it)

nah the prices will go up as demand wil go up. dj warehouse has been out for a while (i thinks) hey tomy, is it all models or just the Mk2 buck_choi.. i watched like 100 items or so on eBay, and they were going for between 400-650 ea (thats a Mk2) depending on whether they were loaded or had dust covers. i was asking everyone for the serial number to get the age and only came across one that was less than 10 yrs old.

hey man. howd it go?

EDIT: edited both my last posts as i realised the topic was how did you learn not how do you dj. ha ha. thanks god for these flameless forums, elsewhere id be charcoal chicken by now! peace love and mung beans (then again y'all prob asleep)

hey... ive always had a love for music and making unmixed mixtapes, always keeping in mind the feel of the mixxx and how the tracks go from one to the other. i then watched a lot of vids (ztrips how to party rock on the second disc of the scratch vid, roc raida's how to party rock, dj shortees dj 101, and a lot of the ellaskins stuff) even before i got my decks. then i just jumped right in. EDIT: stuff cut out but i think after even all that, i learnt more tonight than i did in a month (i was never a good student). i had a mate come over today who spins and just the act of watching someone else, even better if you can listen in on a set of headphones, and the ultimate if they talk you thru it. he saw that i was actually quite good at getting the beats matched very quickly, but he pointed out that i was dropping it in at the wrong point. and its not dropping it on the 1, i had that covered i was just not paying attention to the song signature, i.e not just the four beats but the bars. so i'd drop on the 1, but might be doing at bar 2 or 3 or 4 (i guess 3 is do-able...) which meant unless i was gonna cut over after one bar it would eventually go out (yeah yeah basics for all you musos, im a newb and prob even getting terminology wrong.... so yeah seeing people up close really helps (so get those you tubes up pros!) we were spinning a lot of house tracks tonight which i think helped too. by no means am i saying mixing house is easy, I mean just cuz you can beat match it don’t mean what your doing sounds good, but the ability to really play the pitch and the long intros made it easier to learn

hey jonnyB. just gave it a listen. thumbs up yo (id give you rep but ive been showin too much love tonight...so maybe in 2 hours time) aywho, nice and phat and funky. thats dutch house? mann all these genres just lose me. id call that straight up house, with a one or two disco moments. its even so straight up its almost chicago style house, just a bit more funky and a lot more treble. but then again what would i know, i havent hit any dance scene for ages... ill go check your other stuff now!

okay mos def the laptop, plugged in hum, not plugged in no hum what so ever (i was a little taken a back because i have shitty caables from master to the mini system). And everything except the mini system is on one power board, but as above i still suspect the laptop. anywho, so i can go with the ground loop isolator from jaycar, but anyone have opinion/ experience on sound degradation? are thre different brand/ qualities or is that jaycar one the standard. other option is a direct box thingy. though my mixer only has one balanced output and two rca outputs, while all the DI's ive seen only have balanced inputs. which means it will only fix either recording or master but not both at the same time (hope that amkes sense) the other option I saw was the belkin home/ office laptop spare adaptor, which is like a universal adaptor for all laptops marketed so you only need to carry one power source. This adaptor has no ground (apparentally it deals with grounding som other way? or so i hope) so anyone have thoughts?? cheers all and reps to all those who have helped

hey GuptRX. irrashaimase (welcome in japanese or when you head into any sushi train) im but a padawan in the field but here are some general comments i believe traktor scratch allows you to use time control vinyl or cds on traktor pro, while traktor pro runs internal decks which you can use controllers to control the mixer. if th device comes with traktor lite you may not need virtual dj, and like tubby said im pretty sure the upgrade from traktor le to pro shouldn't b too much (but obviously too little or too much is all relative to credit card limits)

oh.. i just re-read the thread.. so you on at 1. hmmm it may be happy thursday but since i got three meetings tomorrow thats a bit late. but who knows ive done worse on a thurs. (thank god for gowings on george early on a friday for some fresh cheap clothes before work... heh. i dont know what id do now that its closed)
-
yo chev (or anyone that knows since he's prob bailed already). is it open for public to attend? im hanging with a mate tonight who dj's and use to work bar at home for years. we were gonna hit a few record stores before having a smash on the decks but maybe we'll swing by home. oh yeah and good luck man!
-
cool cheers. yeah ill try to unplug the laptop to see if it is definitely this. in regards to the product you suggested, so i am plugging this between the mixer and the stereo (or mixer and back to audio 8 for recording). does that mean that all it is doing is filtering the hum? or does it actually cause the "grounding" to be fixed (if so curious to find out how, guess i could ask the jaycar folk). the zapping option is not preferred. i remember back in the day on the rental equip i stuck my hand under the road case and the other end of one of the cords just stuck out right thru the case, my hand hit it and i remember it was just an involuntary shaking of my hand. it was only lucky it hit the back of my hand, if it was the other way my hand probably would have automatically closed around it, and id be a goner!

ill ask my little bro to see if he has time to come up with something (he's a graphic designer), but he'll prob want rights to spruik his services at least in one post, rights to use in his portfolio, and kudos. i likes the current one, you into graf caleupe?

(last one for the day, its been a while so was making up for it... that or its my feeble attempt to get into the 1000 club in less than a month ) anywho, i am getting an audible hum in my setup. being two st-150's, reloop iQ2, audio 8, my lappy, and an old technics mini system (no laffing it still goes hard, it's one of the last all built in japan models!) i thought it was the stantons as i thought i remembered reading something about it not having a ground wire etc, but cant find it now. but recently i was playing my ipod via the reloop's front panel aux plug and noticed the hum wasnt there. i then tested straight vinyl (not using the pass thru of traktor but just straight vinyl on tt to mixer) and there was no hum! so after some googling i realised it was my laptop. ive read a lot of conflicting suggestions so thought i would ask you learned lot who has experienced this, and what workarounds do you use. it would be extra great to hear from other audio 8 or audi 4 users. cheers!!!! EDIT: oh yeah the hum is in the master to the mini system, and the record out into the traktor (which then usb's to the lappy)

Kool and the Gang - Celebration 09 (Kraft and Match Mix)
eggssell replied to DJMitchNMatch's topic in House & Disco
hey mate liking it. perfect timing too with NYE around the corner... what your choice of weapons on remixing (may i ask) -
cool thanks for the replies. yeah not particularly worried (since all i do is bedroom bang right now), just crossed my mind while i was perusing my regular websites for music info.

hey. ive read all the posts here about the legalities of playing out (and must admit after reading rhemyD's guide and then the links to ARIA, APRA and PPC i still dont understand it...heh), and though im months from playing out, i just thought of something. crap loads of record labels (fools gold, mad decent, ed banger - hmm well dj mehdi from ed banger anywho) will give out free remixes of their songs. some are commercially avail some arent (i.e. some are just people close to the label being given access to the masters who then chop it to hell). like i remember grabbing a bumping remix of a teenagers in tokyo song from the mad decent site, dont know if they ever released it. anywho, can these be used in sets? or will the copyright police come down on you if you do? does whether it got released in oz matter? >>rhemyd you still here? and i know a lot of y'all are producers and will say remix it yourself, which i will with effects, cuts, blends and re-edits on the fly, but as of now i dont intend on getting into remixing on DAW's or samplers (cuz i dont have one...yet). but i do have a lot of bumping mixes that i think i obtained legally per se.

oops... sorry my bad joke (wheres the bad joke jar). my comment was meant to mean do you reckon the assassins on the aus assassin forum are debating how crap and unrealistic assassins creed is gonna be...ba dum bum -rep ha ha 10 yr old djs!..oh no too late haha..i love the boys facial and moves at 0.33!!!. she's actually quite good...
