  1. awesome. and being asked back means you musta rocked!!
  2. found the phrasing article http://www.djtechtools.com/2009/01/26/phrasing-the-perfect-mix/ while it doesnt say much more then what i said (plus the example is pretty ordinary), dont want to claim name to fame for things i got from this article. not sure if you guys hit it but djtechtools is a cool site too
  3. oh yeah when i say thats what your usually left with, it doesnt mean you have to make boring mixes. another trick is to just have mids on (maybe a little highs) and drop in a single line from the incoming track (maybe from the chorus or the start of a verse) a few times over the current track before dropping in the incoming track. or maybe drop in the major melody riff of a track a couple of times before dropping in the incoming track.
  4. hey jaytee, cant see the songs you want to do because of the great wall at work, but some notes on RnB (or Hip Hop for that matter) as opposed to dance, because there may not be many empty phrases (i.e. where there is no lyrics or distinct melody) unless you want to use a loop function of your software/ or cd deck your usually left with a quick mix or cut mix. i read an awesome article referring to the "pop theory" of mixing which is needed for most non dance songs, because of the 16 bar verse-8bar chorus-16 bar verse... song structure. im trying to find it will post link when i do. anywho, so i find mixing out of a chorus to a bridge works well. however it means you will only get the last verse of a song but the bridge is usually the peak. if your quick enough (or again use the loop function) is to mix into the outro of a track (which may be all musical), then quickly load the same song on the other deck and mix into whereever you want. beatmatching is always an option!! its just a matter of it sounds good or not, i.e. whether you end up with the chipmunks or satan. sometimes to mix into something with a massive beat change, scratch into the next song. Or use an echo effect to fade out the going out song and at the last sound of the echo, drop the next song. now all of this is based on what ive read but also from dissecting other peoples mixes. they are rarities but if you can find dj moto's mixes from the 90's (not the club joint allstar ones w/ other people, they were not as good. just dj moto), to me that is the holy grail. also ztrip and dj radar live at future primitive is an awesome mix, more hip hop then r&B but the transition work will probably help. and finally peanut butter wolf's badmeaninggood mix which is more soul, but again the transitions will also apply to r&b. the latter two are available for free online (ill try to get links later). i would mix the songs for you to show example but i dont think im ready yet...
  5. i figured this was better here then amp&speakers but any recommendations on good rca cables and good power bars/ adaptors (whatever they are called, you know the thing that allows multi sockets). i dont know if i can afford high end stuff, but suggest if you think its good. cheers!!! EDIT: or are they all the same and im only paying for branding if i pay more
  6. ^^yep +1 for good post ive been going thru the tutorials out at dj forum some good stuff.
  7. only got my hand on the noise filter line adaptor yest http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4b2190d6031b8e5e273fc0a87e01067c/Product/View/M7800 didnt work. by coniky dink i ran into the crest/ monster cable rep at harvey norman and he said it wouldn't work because the "noise" that is being filtered is from electro magnetic interference which can affect tv reception or high end audiophile stereo systems, it won't filter out currents which is the problem in the ground loop. he then suggested why don't i buy a crest "figure 8 2 pin" cable to replace my mixers power cable (??) but they didnt have any stock! ha ha ... i went around to harvey, jb and dick smith looking for ground loop isolators but no one had one. seems to be mainly used in car setups so jaycar or radio shack. jb did have the belkin laptop adaptor http://www.belkin.com/au/IWCatProductPa ... _Id=418433 apparentally because the 2 pins are insulated and the transformer has a built in surge protector, there is no risk of grounding to myself, and that the reason laptops have the ground pin was not to protect the person rather the laptop components because the charge is too small to badly hurt someone. So the built in surge protector is meant to protect grounding through the laptop components so much that they guarantee it. however they don't guarantee anything else i.e. my setup!! so i think i am physically safe with this option the question is whether everything else is, and also other then one person on djforum (or maybe dj techtools) i cant find anyone else that took this option. so i might run around today trying to locate a ground loop isolator because it is just $20, but an audiophile friend is telling me that should be worse case scenario. i guess he doesnt realise i only have a 10 yr old mini system.heh!!
  8. DJ Times a lot of these are online you know?? though mixmag cover cd's rock. anyone scope the duck sauce one. rocked.
  9. caleupe, what made you digg this from the grave? EDIT: oh i see because they posted again! but it says NEW, so i guess its updated. hmmm carl cox approved.
  10. i just signed up for he 3 free lessons, havent looked at 'em yet. the dude sounds familiar, my cuz's were into the whole dance scene in the 90's and one lived in melbourne for a bit, maybe thats where ive heard of him. anywho, that $97 is $97 US!
  11. hey mate. just gave it a whirl. real good. i likes. awesome song selection too. tried to listen for transitions to try and see how many bars you used for transitions (find myself dissecting all mixes these days, tranistion types, bpm, genre switching), but very smooth i couldn't always pick it up. which is a good thing! can see why the home people liked.
  12. DJ store are offering a 30% discount. Now i dont know if thats 30% of the orig price or 30% of its current price (i.e $97). that makes it pretty cheap! im a little wary he may have more to do with traditional dance music (trance, house, prog), but hey theres always something to learn
  13. hmmm hope you didnt upload those caleupe, arent they from qberts diy video. i.e one you can buy
  14. popular amongst turntablists. as i said a lot of people swear its faster to do certain tricks. the master of them all q-bert does hamster. and im pretty sure a-trak and craze (both multi dmc champions) or at least one of them plays hamster.
  15. hey mate welcome to our humble abode.
  16. hay congrats bro. damn i aint hit slip inn in donkeys. is it in the courtyard? or the loungey area? or upstairs? a four hour set too. yeah awesome mann. hey even though its old school stuff, check the recordstore ebay auction i posted up a couple of days ago. 600 lp's there's gotta be something good. the bankers and chartered accountants will enjoy it.. ha ha. (oh wait you said sat) but for real thumbs up and + rep yo... i may have to check it and watch your chops, get some pointers!
  17. hey chris. you can use the channel fader like the cross fader assuming you channel fader has curve settings. this is found on al scrath mixers and some dj mixers. the settings are usually long fade, nothing to half way then fade, and cut in straight away. i have the reloop iq2 which is listed as a dj mixer on dj warehouse which has curve settings for the channel fader, and a knob to do some additional fine tuning form long to cut. kyle, the reversing of the cross fader is called hamster style. some people swear that it is faster on certain cuts, and preferred by a lot of turntablists. my mixer doesnt have that option (one of the few bad points of it) EDIT: oh yeah, and a lot of mixers (and all scratch mixers) allow reversing of the cross fader to do hamster style, so you dont have to do a rewire.
  18. hey. though i am still wett behind the years, but have watched crap loads of vids, plus have also been clubbing for years and seen/ heard heps.... a few factors. the ability to have channel faders that cut. if your faders can cut, then its the same as using the cross fader for scratches that need a cut. also the scratch sound you want. ive seen people use the line faders on a long curve to have an echo effect (i.e. loud, medium, soft...). and a lot of transformer scratches are done on line faders.

  20. hey all. while i prob should of kept it on the downlow for myself , the record store folk are having a massive ebay auction of some old school house. i figured that if i was to lose the auction, i would prefer it be one of my adjf homies anywho below is a link http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT
  21. carne y'all show a bit of tolerance, its starting to smell a little like other forums... no need for racism is all im saying. the second video is mos def 90's dcm's until the foot (shufle) stuff. i can still picture the shirts off and glow sticks including the likes of the manly sea eagles and balmain tigers...ha ha. and not just the one your thinking of!! as long as it gets their rocks off why not. man you should see some of the dance moves we were seeing in japan. but damn everyone was having a ball.
  22. i finally checked out the dj short-e page that dj tutor was linking to http://www.studioscratches.com/ it rocks. there are tutorials, and a free beat scratch sessions on friday. she even allows vieo upload critique. mos def check it for some scratch info. she rocks
  23. finally a chance to get on to this. been a longtime b/w drinks, other then trying to impress a 5 yr old w/ my laser scratches (enhanced w/ flanger effect) i havent had a bash for days.. anywho yeah tried pluging it into my dining room outlet, the rest of the setup is in the lounge. may have imprved it by 2-5% but still pretty bad. in terms of the ground loop isolator, from what you've said that takes a way the unwanted voltage so having it on one point that should get rid of the hum on all outputs (i.e master, record and headphones). because right now im getting it on all outputs. my mate is gonna give me a surge adaptor that has a noise filter built in (from dick smith), to see i that helps. anyone use that?? but if not ill hit the stores for a GLI on the weekend. cheers again sourceraver
  24. whats crackin. damn what is it in the (vitamin) water up north! is djing in the curriculum. must admit they seem to be very supportive with open deck nights up there, i aint come across many in syd. (in the two months ive been looking...he he) anywho welcome, good to see a learned scracther, post some vids!!
  25. i find record label sites good. guess you just need to scope those you like. as i have mentioned on here before, some of the ones i frequent will release final copies of remixed versions of their releases for free. fools gold does it heaps and their remixes (from sammy bannanas flosstradamus, a-trak etc.) are better then the orig releases.
