that herbie hancock track, rockit is the freaking shiz. i remember that was our go to breakin track for many years! also that played a massive part of bringing the scratch to the masses. also cat empire kill it live. some dj's dont just scratch, but like you said play in the band with the turntable being the instrument. so drop vocal cuts. play rhythm sections. add melodies some others that come to mind dj dexter in avalanches dj katch in the resin dogs dj aero from tommy lee's methods of mayhem (i liked that album) and a special mention, while not quite a band (since mike patton played all the instruments) BUT they did tour it and brought in tour musicians. general patton vs the x-ecutioners had faith no more's mike patton (who is an absolute musical genius) team up with the legendary x-ecutioners fka the x-men

well actually its not that they are doing anything worse. in fact their revenues have grown. their overhead base (costs) grow at a larger rate hence increasing the amount of losses in 2013 compared to prior years. the company has said that it is in a new growth phase, which for a company is usual to reduce your operating margin (and for new companies to be in a loss position). of course if you never break this then you cant be successful. this is common in the "cloud" world right now, where you are trying to offer a service at super low prices. however to do this you are incurring costs to get as many customers as possible. as that is the only way high volume low price businesses can work. look at xero which all business analysts get hard ons over. their losses have continued to grow year on year (i think once they went flat) and are now at $100M accumulated losses. but it still doesnt seem to bother all the praise they get (personally i dont get it...)

so for the people who have used the korg kaos thangs (beatless, cupertino...) can it do this? i guess my concern for the korg devices, is the same w the pioneer fx ones. they seem too feature laden. i just want a straight out looper (or phrase sampler i believe...)

anyways so after much delibiration i was going to go with the redsound soundbite pro. i mean if its good enough for carl cox its good enough for me. nek minit i realised the company folded late last year. juno is all dry, and given the number of wtb posts on various forums the chances of getting one for a reasonbale price is buckleys. there is the mini one which i can still get from germany but not sold on it. soooo.... im back on the look out. all i want is to be able to sample a loop live and have it then play, i.e.similar to the loop buttons on a cdj or a dvs. i will have the device plugged into a send/ return

going on from wrxit's posting of this years dmc champ. here is a fred to post up routines you like (im sure theres a few freds like this but we need moar freddies). does not have to be dmc either ill start with someone other than craze (though it will come hehe...). here is a kentaro set. he does a lot of his trying to use the turnies as instruments. if you get tired of that jump to 2.50 as he does his fader only routine

if im not mistaken switch has won a few awards and titles. i remember always reading it and thinking is that switch from major lazer... maybe thats why he goes by mr switch now

just watched. he shows a lot of different techniques and is def a good turntablist. but im not a fan of routines that dont have much continuity. i mean a couple of big change ups are fine, but the whole im doing this, okay now this, and then this, and then this and so on. i like routines that still have some musical aspect.

craze is my all time fave then kentaro i think scratch perverts brought in a lot of new elements that changed just straight out wigga wigga with battle swears. a-trak was good but he was from that old school battle style swear samples

pffft who needs uni good luck with it. anyway knowing thud rumble. one side is samples, with more complicated ones later on the record. there could be some drum samples on this side. and then the other side is some minimal beats or tunes. have a listen through as you may also find something useable on it. i dont have that one so cant tell you whats on it. -

at its most basic is a kick with a snare before or after it. then you can do heaps of kick/ snare patterns. so two kicks one snare. you could roll backwards and forwards over the kick, and then hit the snare. and then just use the fader to avoid hearing the kick on the pull back. etc -

your cop porn record must have a section of drums. a lot of battle records do. but you can usually find it in a lot of breakdowns. pretty sure that one eko is using is just some old rap record that you see a lot of people use -
bought a handful of records while in chi town hit two cool spots. one in the burbs where i was at -Discount City, which was one of those second hand places selling video games, cd's and dvds. they had a pretty good back wall of $1 a piece vinyl. and then one near downtown - dusty grooves. which had heaps of new and second hand. but the score was the basement which was all 50 cents a piece!! even if they were two or three record releases. and it seems like some hip hop dj mustve sold their collection as picked up shyte loads of no limit records 12"s and luke records 12" that had doubles in a single sleeve!!!! picked up new re-releases of two bootsy's rubber band albums. some tommy boy collection from 1985. duran duran white lines 12". but the score has to be samantha fox w full force 12"
