  1. okay maybe shabba do
  2. hey heres my suggestions rockit (song starts from about 3.20 before that just some early turntablism from one of the founders Grandmaster DST) rock steady crew (damn i loved this song growing up. no one does crab walks these days like buck 4) no clip for bomfunk mc's but someone has uploaded it oh yeah forgot kraftwork - tour de france boogaloo shrimp btw. no one pops better period. no biting now
  3. if in syd the recordstore is the place to go. dj warehouse has a few but make sure you get them to price match recordstore as they usually charge more. you can order from red eye or a place in adelaide (cant remember the name clinic116 maybe?). most def anything from thud rumble (qberts company) like super seal.
  4. ummm. again not sure what you mean by map without usb? what cd player did you end up getting in the end? can they send midi info? if not and all your doing is 2 cd decks into mixer and mixer into audio 8, you will have no choice but to touch the laptop. get an lpd8, i think they are getting cheaper. you can load music at the touch of the button, and will also allow looping and hot cueing using buttons. i got the MPD24 which is way more then i actually needed since other than the beat masher i do all effects from the external mixer. hopefully ill use it in production (ha ha one day!!)
  5. aiight ill dig around djtechtools im sure ean did a basics of traktor effects (else you can look, im videoblocked) but without a controller, the only way to do it without using mouse is to map laptop hotkeys eg Q W E R T Y, Q being loop in, W loop out, then the rest being the different loop sizes. then you can just press each key as you want to change the loop size. once you hit loop out (or actually also if you hit the loop size you are currently in) the track will just continue to play. there should be no need to touch the platter or the cdj's.
  6. ohhh, okay you mean half the loop, and half again until it stutters. yes you can do that in traktor but no not using the platter UNLESS you have mapped the platter to be a midi controller. you prob saw rafik do it as he assigned a midi knob to control loop time (ive done the same with my MPD). alternatively you can use hotkeys on your laptop, or a mouse to point to the loop size buttons underneath the wave.
  7. another one just came to mind riva starr - black mama extended version. maybe uptempo it a little. the build and drop at 3.19 rocks.
  8. EDIT: oops just reread yer mssg, you were meaning step up type dance moves. anywho left my 2 cents cuz i think these tracks still rock and my old school ones are straight uprockin' (what we called battling back in the day) music to pop/ lock or break too is very different to music to "hip hop" dance too (im using that term in regards to you got served or what you usually see in hip pop film clips). while the latter may incorporate a few of the former, it also incorporates a lot of hip hop inspired jazz moves, and can really been done with any uptempo rnb/hip hop track. on the other hand my old school recommends for popping or breaking to: herbie hancock - rockit rock steady crew - uprockin' something from bomfunk mc's instereo (ha ha don't hate) EDIT: stir up the bass is good for new school something from deekline & wizards back up & coming thru remix album. id say baila baila vent remix and show me splitloop remix also run thru beat assasins catalog, nothing comes to mind but im sure they got stuff. unlike the 3:16 (3 verses of 16 bars plus chorus) formula of rnb/hip hop tracks these have the builds, climaxes and pauses that poppin and break lend themselves to.
  9. hey man welcome. from syd but not the northern beaches (though whale is my fave and been going for over 20 yrs)
  10. hey buck not sure what you mean by cut either. but with traktor in relative mode and you have set a loop, it basically assumes the looped part runs over and over until you release the loop. therefore if you run it backwards it will run the loop backwards and when it reaches the start of the loop and you keep going backwards it should go to the end of the loop. if that makes sense. or numerically speaking if you looped say beats 5 to 8 in a phrase, and you start to turn the platter backwards at beat 6 it should play the beats 6 5 8 7 6 5 8 7 6 5.......
  11. hey buck. here are the wii and guitar hero djtechtools articles. the guitar hero one mentions a few programs to map controllers via bluetooth, which should be the same via usb i guess. only skimmed them. http://www.djtechtools.com/2008/09/05/h ... /#more-689 http://www.djtechtools.com/2008/05/09/h ... /#more-438
  12. not any usb controller only those that can send MIDI info. However, as the hardware is just boards sending info, it obviously can be developed to send MIDI info. im pretty sure on djtechtools there is someone who controls traktor with a wii control and a guitar hero guitar. the guitar hero drums actually already send MIDI info and can be used as pads.
  13. all phones play mp3's? old nokia (i think the 7XXX series) from about 2004 played mp3's they just lacked memory (and had crappy speakers). and now most phones not only play mp3's, have shyte loads of memories and unlike the iphone you can arrange the playlist from the phone, and you can plug into any computer you want should you feel the need (for example just bought a new cd while at work want to rip it and put it straight to my phone!) but yeah the apps (while mostly novel and only last 1 day) are fun. i would of went android if australia had more support of htc phones and the android apps market. but since it doesnt, it will likely be an iphone fer me. EDIT: actually it was in 2001, nokia 5510. i must of only caught up in 2004 with my 7 series..
  14. yeah it does look better. i need a new phone had the same one for 3 years and its falling apart physically and if the battery runs to a certain point i need a computer to reboot it. i havent been bigg on the iphone because of its inability to do things most phones could, but theyve slowly fixed it and the new OS 4 pretty much clears some of the last things (imagine having to plug in just to change your playlists!!!! lame). of course its still gonna have a lot of failings such as cant hit the regular music/ record label/ dj blogs on the fly download the latest mix and put it straight into your playlist, in fact you cant save anything you find while browsing. i can and my phone is 3 years old. and being only able to manage music from one computer is lame!!!! but yeah its looking alright. also i hope it has a faster processor, iphones are slow as crap. so if all goes well i will become one of the sheep.
  15. well just think when the first iphone came out in 2008 it had the capabilities of a mobile circa 2005, so this one can probably do whatever your mobile from 2007 could... oh my god video calls from your phone, ground breaking!!! heh.
  16. yo. welcome
  17. damn this brutha gets around. from movie forums to wedding forums and everything in between. funny thing is he posts 3 posts in each forum. being DJ's and producers this one is a good one http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showpo ... stcount=19 and in this one he is actually almost coherent (i thought maybe it was just a coinky dink name but the same sig) http://forum.asiajam.com/musicology/406 ... post228372
  18. wow obviously not having heard the individual parts, cant tell whats yours and what was cairo's. but really nice track. are your key/ synths from the orig? loving the wooey things in the final sequence. im actually liking it more each listen (i.e. i first thought nice little track, now im really liking the sound of it) top job to all three of ya for the biege trilogy.
  19. hey man. chris is right that bit at 0.55 is like a kick in the face, esp. knowing the chilledness of the orig. but what comes next was good. the come back of the same sequence at 2.30 maybe could of done with some difference. maybe the keys. what happened to the keys. EDIT: kick in the face in a good way (if there is such a thing)
  20. hey yo. nice chilled one yet again. again prob a little slower style then i normally listen too (for electronic music anywho, i mean its faster than lisa mitchell heh..), but sound is mos def pro as usual. your percussion skills rock. fave bit the keys at 3.26.
  21. i was gonna say pop something wonky in there, but now thinking about it, thats prob too expected. hmmm i dunno maybe some dirty bass, with some chopped up syncopated samples - be it horns, synths, lasers, cowbells, or all of them (okay that was the best way to describe the sound im thinking of in my head, but not being a producer im prob talking out my ass). i guess it seemed like the point to get the hands up, hence the need for wildness.
  22. (man couldnt find all the tracks i missed for review so just hitting everyoes soudcloud then using search) hey. again dont think i know the origs, whos is the synth intro, i like. i think its cool. i dont really like the vocal post 2.40, kinda spoils it (and kinda over him by then).
  23. man! this song is the shyte!!!! id buy it (where can i send my dollar). yeah this is the sound ive been buying up. nice amount of changes too. loving the wonk and the dirtiness in the middle. sound pro too. thumbs up yo.
  24. hey man. i likes. i actually am feeling the trumpet and enjoyed the track. i thought the climax a 1.30 was gonna lead to something much bigger. maybe not what your going for, but it would have been good to go wild there and then go to the beats bit which nikko found a bit repitive (or maybeim just enjoying the wonk and wobble a bit these days). love the last phrase (2.54-3.10) ps sorry havent signed up fr soundcloud yet so cant leave responses. (i know lame probably takes 5 secs)
  25. hey man welcome. i aint a massive trance fan but i have hit a few trance events and if im pumped i can get into it, however 6-8 on a sat not sure if ill be around anywhere i could listen. ill say yes in that i WOULD listen, but not sure if i can.
