oh i followed the link from the dj warehouse newsletter and never actually read the newsletter till now. And yeah it is per above. they will pick 30 peoples and put them thru the 8 week training course, and then get the 30 to play out against each other to pick the winner.

hey buck thats $10 US so you should charge $11.11 ..

hey man welcomes too bad the cash drain doesnt stop at the equip, the money keeps going to fresh tunes!! but oh well moneys just a means to the end.

yeah i know. but i think its like the djunited school, they have a comp for all the grads in front of a live crowd (so ive read). so it looks like theyre gonna pick 30 peeps from your write-up, train you up, then chuck you infront of a crowd and pick the best to get all the kit and residency. sounds awesome! i was a bit wary in that you have to tick i agree to terms & conditions without actually having any acces to these terms. i ve tried googling for them too and cant find anything. maybe you've signed away your soul skank!

good ol' northies. ha ha. was it sounds on sunday? forgot to mention i only really hit it on sundays. nothing like a drink in a church ontop of a mall with some blaring funk house in the daytime... can't really remember who use to play except shamus. he kills.

What Should I buy. BUDGET OF $4000
eggssell replied to Psycho-Delic's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
yeah man pack 2 fer sure. tt's and a dvs. also just get an mpd for your controller rather than an mpc. the rane is bad ass, but no effects and only 3 channels. not that i really use many mixer effects, or more than 3 channels yet!, but for future it may be worth considering. -
hey man nicely produced track yet again. + rep. love the haunting vocal, especially when it drops at 2.00 and 4.30. the middle body a little too long for my liking (but i guess its perfect for that chilling feel). i really love the drum break at 3.40. and the entire ending from then onwards.

okay listened. i really dont know my genres, i knew prog was more down tempo but thought it was also a little more minimal and repetitive, this wasnt. so i actually quite liked it. i dont know if i would go a whole hour with that sound, but i have to say it didnt feel like an hour went past. as w yer other mixes, nice and clean. + rep nice build from intro then starts kickin at about 12. i like the track at 14 ish. the one w/ vocal (did you get into the new depeche mode tracks released recently? that track reminded me of depeche mode, the laidback luke mix of fragile tension rocks). im liking the first half better then the second, but that could be just the tracks in the latter half not being my thang. edit: rep ya in a tick, blocked by the whole time limit thing

ha ha im a gwen stefani fan. but thats cuz i am a no doubt fan. if you ignore the record label forced singles her first album was quite good and at the time was pushing boundaries for "pop" music, the sound used would soon be copied (as is most things done by the neptunes). 2nd one wasnt as good. anywho the mix of holla back was okay, not something id buy. in terms of your mix, i thought both transitions were okay. i think holla back went for too long. what do you use?

okay so i didnt look that night but finally got on it. i am a hip hop fan as opposed to rnb/ hip hop fan, though in a club enviro i dont mind, and back in the day loved the dj moto mixes (not club joint allstars just moto on his own. still the best in oz i rection), so i can see how yer mixx fits in that scene, albeit i probably aint digging a lot of yer tracks. saying that i didnt mind some of the more electro hop/ hip house tracks (but see below). mixing was good and reasonably clean (some fade outs seemed to slow), as you can see from previous posts weve talked about how best to transition in rnb/hip hop and whether to beatmatch etc. and i think youve done well for most of the part. whats your choice of weapons?? vinyl, cd, controller? some specific thangs. at 8.14 is that an acapella on top of another track? it seems in place at first, but by the end it seems to be out of sync with the music. though i know some of the free mixtape tracks are better than the origs (clipse kill all the beats they jack for their re-up series), but i think you may want to try and ensure you leave out the "get familiar" or that air horn sound which is too aligned with that particular famous dj. and finally get some bmore into ya, itll fit into your regime i thinks!! and they do the hip hop/ dance thing a lot better. spank rock, amanda blank, plastic little, pase rock, any of the dance tracks whiskey pete gets on, aquasky. ninjasonik too. or some boom bap stuff. other then that it was aiight, and i think was mixed well and was in the vibe of mixtapes in that genre. better in the latter then the beginning (except the last 5 mins which went back to the music style of your intro, which i'm just not into, but thats just personal prefernce).

hoo haa - mightyfools (knocked up noise bootleg)
eggssell replied to JonnyB's topic in Electro & Bangers
yeah i dont know the orig, so i thought it was quite good. nice basslines, i like the hoo, and the other turkish sample thang. felt like energy level was less in the latter part then the start. not that that is bad, was actually a nice change. deep almost. -
hey buck is that opera on the itouch. no it wouldnt work because of java and flash. my htc uses the old shitty windows mobile 6, but it is java and flash capable. im thinking i just need to dl the latest opera mini and i can do soundcloud.
-
wow club 77 still around. they still got frogger in there? i knew a bloke that use to play there, back then they were playing english rock mashed into dnb and industrial dance. quite normal to hear blur, portishead, tricky, roni size... ha ha that was a long time ago.

mixing in live, phrasing & other noobie questions
eggssell replied to eggssell's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
oh cool yeah that sounds like a plan. i find im usually right give or take a nudge or a finger, but just find myself listening with faders down for at least four beats or longer before i even think of bringing the fader up. hence why someitimes i miss the best oppurtunities. yeah i read about the eq only mixers, i dont think i could do it. -
hey tomy its melb or syd though? either way yeah good luck

kinda off topic but kinda on can you listen to soundcloud using iphone? has anyone got soundcloud going on a mobile device, if so which one (i.e device, os and browser) i have an old htc thats almost dead, which unlike the iphone can go to flash sites. so the waveform comes up but i cant hit the play button. i know theres a new version of opera with the new version of flash i just cant be assed to update this dinosaur. anywho would of listened but cant get it to play. will try on the w/e

payola is "pay for play". several times radio stations have been busted accepting money (or other things!!) from record labels to have their music played. hey cbg thats what i thought too, but it says pro-rata, so it means they will work out how much 15 hours a week is for that annual rate.
-
thats what the payola covers! oh wait its triple j so no payola... heh

mixing in live, phrasing & other noobie questions
eggssell replied to eggssell's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
oh yeah, im on tt's so dont have a cue or play button, but what you saying makes sense in terms of fader up or down in terms of genre mixing. so cheers its not as though i have trouble dropping in beat (well im no pro yet but im happy how that part is progressing hence trying to get to the next step), its just i drop on the one, have a listen to make sure its right (a few beats past), fugg around with the eq as to how i want to bring it in (another few beats past) then i start to bring it in. now if its okay maybe 8 beats have passed, so its usually still okay to bring it in as it may be in between a phrase but the start of a bar at least. i guess its only buggin me that i might know the start of the next phrase would be perfect to start to bring it in, but i dont feel confident enough to drop it with faders up at that point. so hence came up with the strategy of bringing it in before the one. maybe its a practice thing. -
what usb / audio buffersize? is that a setting or a question from the upgrade? (im still on 1.2.4 as everyone said 1.2.5 is sugar) offtopic: hey cupe did you change all the threads swear words. some esp. with sugar now make no sense... ha ha back ontopic: oh yeah still have to get you those effects tutes maybe tomorra

hey yup. ive got a couple of djing questions that some of y'all pros may be able to help. just wanting to know whether people "mix in live" or to cue and then bring in. im sure theres a technical term but it doesnt come to mind. just to clarify, so its all beatmatched, and you know exactly where in the phrase you want to drop it, do you drop the with the line fader up (which is what i am referring to as mixing in live) or line fader down. thats kinda question 1. i am assuming with longer mixes you would drop it with line fader down and then bring it in gradually (tweaking eq as needed). having assumed the above, (now the real question) do you still drop on the one. i.e. the first beat of a phrase. so that by the time you bring up the fader its further down the phrase like the 5th or 6th or 7th or 8th beat or so on of a phrase. OR do you drop in say at the 56th beat of a 64 beat phrase, and then bring up the line faders at the 1st beat of the next phrase?? i.e drop it in wait about 8 beats and then bring it in such that the next track is introduced at a 1st beat of a phrase. of course with the latter i guess you can drop on the one and then wait for the next phrase (be it 32, 64 or more beats later) before bringing it in. anywho just wanting to gauge what y'all do. currently i always drop on the one, but find by the time i get myself sorted to start bringing it in (i.e being confident its matched) its a third thru the phrase already and i missed where i wanted to bring it in which was actually the first beat of the phrase. please ask q's if its all mumbo jumbo, as im sure i can explain it better if probed. and i know there is no one you must do formula hence why im asking what you do, which could be all so just let me know in what situations. cheers
