  1. hey thanks man. ha ha brave or dumb . as per above if i had access at lunch i woulda pulled it! but glad i didnt. (but prob will by end of the week) yeah youre right listenig to it it seems like songs are just chucked in, i prob get it all beatmatched (so i thought...) then get ready to chuck it in when i feel i can. in regard to transition to track 3 at 5.30, the actual song i was coming out of all of a sudden drops to a low filter, but so little is coming thru it sounds like silence. maybe if it was in phrased it wouldnt have sounded so bad. in regards to the risky move to no superstar at 8.20, i actually wanted to come in at the mellower bit (9.40 of my mix) and then allow the song to change the genre/ feel a bit when it breaks at 10.40. so no idea why i started mixing from the start of the song. your right should never of attempted straight genre change specially when songs aint matched or phrased. in regards to your comment general EQing: try and retain the most obvious frequency band to the very end to give the transition that extra length can you pls clarify. ive tried to read up and look at heaps of tutes on EQ, but not really getting much (i guess most tutes are staraight up 4/4 minimal house). in the past i would kill bass of incoming, and then just slowly switch over. this time round generally I was going with bass at 70% and the rest at 100% anywho cheers man, yeah need heaps of practice and will keep trying with this phrasing.
  2. damn. was listening to my own mix in headphones at lunch. the beatmatching sounds even worse... so much so i fell like pulling the mix down, ha ha as per my comments it sounded slightly off last night when i was reviewing thru the hi fi but on headphones you hear every unmatched beat (and the trainwreck in the middle is a shocker). sucks. when setting the pitch i feel like its beatmatched right. i even finetune on split cues once i have it right using the one ear method. but i guess when it comes to actually dropping it im not getting it right on. i guess thats why per my previous thread, i use to like drop it, check it for about 8 beats then bring up the faders. this time round i was trying the drop it bring line fader up quickly to 70% and then make small adjusts as i bring up to full. back to practicing grind i guess. i really wish i could hit it every day. am i also holding the going out track too long? seems it. okay will stop commenting now, i was meant to be seeking other peeps thoughts and advice (lots of advice so it seems). EDIT: oh yeah and definitely electro in ther. ha ha ha
  3. its usually only me and buck trawling ebay anywho. what exactly are you looking for buck or are you just like that dude from castle who reads the trading post! ha ha im looking for cases and stands; maybe speakers/ monitors.
  4. ha ha i thought the same thing!!!! the title sounded like you wanted something sprecific, but then your blurb seemed in general
  5. cant listen now as behind firewall but will check tonight. i like hot chip so would love to see what ya done.
  6. changed my mind definitely disco & house (im guessing vocal funk house). move it.
  7. damn finally done. anywho as above. i dont know the genre cupe. its a bit of this and that. i started of in my head as disco but then it evolved.
  8. well not my first mix but first one i'm gonna chuck into the den. since ive just been sitting here for half a year commenting. otay, its more a practice sesh then a mix. was done on the fly without track planning but obviously i have my tracks in "genre" bins. but i use the term lightly in that i put songs that i think will go together in the set. why this and not any others i dont know i guess i figured it would be good to get some advice. i know no one has time to listen to mixes so ive put the rough timings. so maybe hop to 10 secs before the timing and listen for the transition / train wreck . i put my feelings on them. 1. 0.00 Cassian - Final Round 2. 3.00 Rockets - Running to you (a little offbeat and too loud, thought recovered alright) 3. 5.30 Ocelot - Our Time - Treasure finger remix (on beat but came off last track too abrupt. it was the song i swear! ha ha) 4. 8.20 Remady - No Superstar - Calvetron mix (train wreck. probably wrong song) 5. 12.00 Laidback Luke/ Greg Salto - Shine Your Light - Vocal Club mix (a little offbeat but generally okay) 6. 14.45 Justin Faust - Holdin' On - Nightriders remix (i liked this one so retired soon after) Mixedeggs180510 by eggssell sound cloud taking donkeys will put link when it finally arrives!! Also PS. there is no disco section so this was closest i could get. cupe, what do you rection? move if not appliable. EDIT: scrap that it has electro ish anywho
  9. i think he's saying h wants to drop it during the part with no kick. i.e. a melody only intro. i think as long as youve beatmatched it, the start of the melody should still be the start of the count. you're obviously just driving blind till any percussion kicks in.
  10. and payment to standover men, unions, coppers, pollies, d-grade celebrities to make an appearance.
  11. hey all check a-trak blog for his latest dirty south dance mixtape (aint checked it yet maself but the first one killed). http://djatrak.com/ theres also a link to a riva starr mixtape if ya aint already checked it from his soundcloud (okay not quite hip hop but a-trak was multi dmc champion )
  12. oh yeah for peeps looking for a cd pool i think its one of the better ones (then again i only looked at a couple of links of an article onsome other site); however they should of just went straight to the Buy & Sell thread rather then spread us with some pork. personally id spend the cash digging thru juno.
  13. these are at an awesome price right now, okay there is still a week to go but they look good. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-Technics-SL-12 ... 35a967cd9e not mine.
  14. yeah i did, i went in nice and early (8 am) cuz i had a bbq at my place 12.30 that day. my mate who also joined me was up till 3ish too, so by the time they got the line going at 10 he was all agro. ha ha. spewing though, got there at 8ish nothing doing, so went for brekky came back at 9 and we were like the 2nd or 3rd group there (everyone seemed to come in packs). and so we sat at the tables. by 10 there woulda been about 150 ppl there, then they ask everyone to line up at the stairs!! lucky for us (so we thought) we rushed up and were about no more then 20th in the line. but we didnt get our turn till 12!!! i felt sorry for the couple that was their first as they were on the opposite side of the stairs, so they musta been way back once they got in the line!! admittedly though it seemed to take ages in the first hour (i.e. we moved one step), then it sped up. not sure how they gonna differentiate peeps, had about 1 minute to win them over and there was at least 200+ by the end of it. heard some people lined up for 4 hours, while others showed up 5 and didnt have to lineup!! if length of talk was anything to go by, i dont like my chances but my mate seemed to do alright. but you gotta be in it to win it.
  15. hey skank. you hit it?
  16. oh yeah and to gauge where you at (i.e. if you are good enuff or if you being too harsh) post up a mix. i know not a lot of reviewing of mixes here (im guilty too), but just put a purlease and im sure everyone will hop on it.
  17. oh man. were you been long time no hear.. (EDIT: just checked yer profile to see when you were last around, but you were posting in march and april. how the f did i miss that...) amywho, dont worry about the naysayers man, as i said in the 90's we called people who used cdj's cheats and now they becoming the club standard. so while all the cd people are calling computer dj's cheats, in time it will become accepatble. then the computer dj's will call the telekenetic dj's cheats, and so on and so on. First up most definitely check the location and see what they got in terms of sound cards etc. also one option is to hire some equip for one or two days and just go hard practicing. the final thing to consider is the location and the peeps that will be there. i went to a bar in syd a couple weeks back. and at times the dj was straight moving one fader up and the other down, reasonably beatmatched but most definitely clashing. and i have to say not one person seemed to notice. but thats cuz it was about 10ish on a sunday and everyone was lazing about having a drank. now im far from being a dj, so my 2 cents are probably woth 0.2 cents. but just some food for thought. oh and in terms of pay, well i know that is a can of worms, becuase by you accepting it for free means people who get paid lose out on a job yadda yadda yadda but i can see the otherside of a coin, someone trying to breakthru with no actual experience why would they give you a shot. i rection its fine if you do it as a trial purpose then hit them up for some cash. then your equip will pay for itself.
  18. i remember reading that itunes is 256kbs AAC which is comparable to 320kbs mp3's. dont kow if true.
  19. also here is a very badly done tutorial video. esp. when compared to the ones above.
  20. okay about 2 weeks old but everytime i trie looking for the vids i end up just f'ing about on youtube (remember iphone lady gaga...) anywho, i cant remember what i saw but i think it may have been these ean golden kontrol x1 effects demos. now i know you dont have one of these but it is a good example of what effects can do, and you can map any controller (or create hot keys on the laptop).
  21. for those that didn't know craze. heres him using traktor and the kontrol x1. since leaving battling he has hit the dub scene hard, as well as miami bass. heaps of mixes around and apparentally he party rocks hard. his fabric sesh is one of my fave.
  22. welcomes. love weezer.
  23. yeah man i gots it too. same w/ some mates who hopped on. also read somewhere else a few people been getting it. looks like its gonna be a massive turnout. i aint got facebook but from their facebook invite i saw they had about 250 friends, so itll prob be that many people there.
  24. just had it going while i was typing it up. reminds me a lot of the heathers score (an old winona ryder flick). especially that bit a 2.50. i loved that flick too, so much so i bought the score soundtrack.
