  1. what you aint got any guns and hoes, man you missing out!... heh. yeah for sure i hear what you saying. not that i dont mind my gangsta gangsta (straight outta compton still rules!). theres heaps more US artists who've adopted the conscious rap/ backpack rap/ alternative rap especially in the new school so i wouldnt write it off. if you want to check em, just looking at what ive bought in the last couple of months check out murs felt (which is murs and slug) kidz in the hall cool kids reflection eternal (talb kweli with the producer hi-tek who use to do mainly gangsta gangsta) mos def even common who hasnt dropped anything in a while oh yeah speaking of nas, i picked up his collabo with junior gong (bob marleys kid) yest. havent listened to it yet. gonna rip it to my ipod tonight after i do some tunes buying from juno (that time of the month). mc cupe in the hizouse... say hooo
  2. i must admit that is true in some small part. i dont think all mc's sound the same, rather the same mc sounds the same track after track. just the same speed same tone for each 16 bars of every verse of most songs. (US mc's are the same, say eminem if it aint got d12 or someone else from his camp on a song, i can barely stand it for the whole 3 verses). while you can get pro's like snoop or even some of the youngins like cudi who can mix it up. snoop can use his voice alone to be both melodic and percussive such that its a song to itself (yeah yeah i know these days he has a lot of filler too, but in there are always gems). but i think the oz scene is changing. people like phrase, bliss n esso on their second album, tzu most definitely, have really started to mix it up such that whole albums can rock. i rection the adding of the female vocal to herd has added wonders to them (just like fergie to bep ).
  3. yeah man, loves it. been down since the days of def wish cast and sound unlimited. i find aussie hip hop producers do it better than heaps of their us counterparts. aiight there are some biggies like dre and 9th wonder who still kill, but i think oz producers hold their own. ut i think the breaks that oz producers find, plus the use of live instrumentation just make it tops. did ya check the m-phazes album, he's a producer and he wheeled in several mcs pegz, bliss n esso etc. and yeah im a big hilltop, herd and tzu fan. some other ones to check, who verge on funk/ hip hop are king farook and kid confucius (well their first album anywho) who both have live bands. resin dogs rock. quan's solo last year also killed, one of my fave albums. check his collabo with spod called blox. spewing it was onl a 5 track thing.
  4. chers man, well i can still count on my fingers & toes how many times ive touched decks! but aint no thang but a chicken wang. from applying i figured my chances were low. as the comp required no dj experience and was being headed by a pr/ event company, it seemed a little more catered to finding someone you can market. not an oldie trying to live the dream (heh sorry for jacking yer line defanutley). all good to the peeps that got thru though. many a dj have gotten their break from a comp.
  5. aint hindsight a bee-hatch. i said i was hitting it. you should of hit me up with a t, some flyers and some stickers or something. i know next time get some adjf mouse pads for the digital dj of tomorrow! anywhos, nah i didnt get my shot. maybe its cuz i said i want to play bmore and miami bass, or maybe they just heard me mix heh. as i said before i figured my chances were buckley to none. hey skank you probably got that email cuz you entered and now you will be spammed!. the funny thing was you know how on the second email where they said "you made the cut", even though everyone made the cut, then on the day that steve bloke from munky was still keeping the charade saying you all made it to the next stage!! ha ha pfft. but theyve done really well with it. on the day a camera crew showed up, and i remember saying to my mate i rection his piloting for a tv show thats why they needed so many peeps to show up. and sure enuff apparentally its going national and on tv later this year. "so you think you can dj"!
  6. damn thats nice. (is it just me getting only the last pic?) does the pullout thang not get in the way though? yeah man if you was in syd id be there. was this your custom build?
  7. hey'all just found out dj dexter got a gig on at oxford art factory this week. personally i only remembered him from avalanches, and i knew he was in the oz dmc champs, didnt realise how close he actually got in the worlds (then again i never really followed the wigga wigga till i got into atrak 5-6 yrs ago. now im a kentaro & craze groupie). anywho here's a good lil write up on him http://www.thevine.com.au/interviews/ar ... rview.aspx
  8. will to try to check later this week dont think ill be getting interweb time tonight.
  9. what!!! don't you just match the two waveforms... (just joshing. most ppl know i cant beatmatch... ha ha)
  10. in other ebay news today... there were some cdj1000 mk3 currently at $100. if you can get for $500, you can trade at djwarehouse and pay another $500 for cdj900, hence getting the 900's only for $1000!!
  11. thanks cupesta. i was watching this one when it was 99 cents but incl. postage its now $820, so no chance. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Pioneer-DJM-800- ... 1e5c0815c9
  12. damn these technics still aint pop 1G. but i guess all the action happens in the last 5 mins. anywho, buck these turnies are cheap as chips http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Stanton-ST150-Tu ... 2a074fecfd i bought these for $650 each, and these are buy now at $650 with shure needles. also, how much would peeps pay for a second hand djm800?
  13. cairo our local music reviewer! start a blog mate EDIT: peter ill look at track and add you on soundcloud tonight
  14. hey man i notced beatport is doing a sale on acapellas, i saw morillo on the list. dont think a set starter will be there, but it may actually be like an intro track from an album. check it.
  15. finally found the one i as thinking of. some fx combos. the third one sounds a bit off bu tthe last one is awesome.
  16. nah turned out to be a scam. oh sorry panasonic said a misinterpretation. i think they did it cuz it was nearing their financial year end and werent making budgets, so create hype for a mad rush. when the news broke out, seemed theyd done it before a few years ago too.
  17. ha ha probably about 15 years ago (at least 10) my bro got the dance ejay program. which was in essence a 4 track sequencer which had 100's of samples. then about 2 years after i bought the hip hop version of ejay which added a few more tracks, tables to scratch, and a whole bunch more hip hoppy/ r&b samples. but it also allowed you to bring your own wav's. loved it. always had great plans but never finished anything. the biggest track i got going was sampling the intro from snoops tha shiznit which was a flutey thing, then i layered over some chords from the heathers sound track, then i tried to add more percussion but could never get it to work. its probably somewhere on one of myold mans pc's. i gotta find these programs, they had 100's of samples i could probably use it with my mpc... hmmmm.
  18. no worries i enjoyed it. track name at 18.40?? purlease
  19. hey man. not only added you to my list of check whats doin on soundcloud, but finally signed up to the cloud so following you. anywho, i know you disclaim upfront its commercial, so like the others some songs i really didnt digg but there were some songs i loved and would also buy (have bought) like hey hey and the miami bootleg. overall yeah the mixing was good, except for bit at 21ish that chris pointed out i didnt see any other strays (my ears arent as good as tomy's). i did find going into the duck sauce track when the vocals finally kick in with the filter on it, kinda kills the groove. not sure if that filter was you or the mix, could also be cuz the track also sounds a little softer than the rest. anywho seemes to be a niticeable dip. but yeah all in all i felt it happening, a little bored by the middle, but then the syncopated sounds of the last few tracks drive it home. while on the topic of commercialism, i have to say ive been a black eyed peas fan since about 2000 when i was living in canada/us and i disagree with the sentiment fergie is their death bed. i think their a&r focus on selling her has made the backlash but she adds plenty to their albums ignoring the radio made record label singles, check the track boogie that b from the the first album she was on. best track ever! for them and to this day one of my faves. on the otherside if your looking for some electro hop/ hip house plenty do it better than bep. also not feeling that stfu and a lot of thers like that on the radio. check uffie or kid sister or amanda blank for much better tracks of that sound. otay that really is it for today. peace and im audi....
  20. are you loling my question. im being serious, i know the question of which one is best has been asked a millio times, but i was wondering in specific what was used. id love to remix (but i got plenty more to practice) but its good to know.
  21. i thinks people dont give paragraph reviews like cairo and cbg cuz we aint all producers. heh. half the stuff goes over my head. i know i know this place is for dj's & producers. but for now from a listeners perspective, i likes the sound of it, and fer sure keep it going. much more darker then your other tracks (my genre radar sucks as so dont know if itll be dubstep). love the distorted waahhh thing, almost like a roar over the darker sound. then the synth things kick in and give it like an adventure type sound. then it ended.... ahhhh. what happened to Link (oh yeah you all sony boys so wouldnt know Link).
  22. hey man i likes. youve made it better than the orig. this was one of my less liked tracks on the album, felt they were channelling a bit of kanye's 808 and not the good stuff he jacked of kid cudi's sound but the crappier bits. love the intro. thats all taken from the original right? yeah the pluckys are cool. drop at 1.00 has perfect amount of new elements coming after. in fact its the same after each drop. and the vocal bits you grab are the good bits, really nice melodic vocal over your funky sounds. nice clubbifying of the track. what software did you use?
  23. oh yeah not a critique or part of my review but more part of my learning. what are you using to mix? also am i right in that i can hear some looping for transitions or is that just in the remix. cheers
  24. hey man gave it a whirl. cant say that all the sounds were my liking, got a bit mashupy at some times and being a jc fan i cringed thru jack & diane (ha ha) but you won me straight back with bbd!!! lot of classics for someone your age, good showing of music knowedge man. anywho i thought all the mixing was good, tight and seamless except from track 10 to 11 seemed off. maybe not beats but it didnt sound all that good. also track 9 seems out of place at that point in the mix (track 9 & 10 just didnt do it for me). other specifics, is that you bringing in deekline & wizard (or was it napt or beat assassins) during jack & diane, you know the hands up bit. worked right the first time but second one seemed off. temper trap comes in perfectly (i.e transition sounded good, felt right in the mix, and choice song) but i didnt like the ending. the cut before the next track is too massive. maybe shoulda low pass filter it and run dmc chatter over the top (not that i couldve done it but it needed something to make the two come together more). but yeah overall while i had it playing other then the tracks i didnt personally like it sounded really good. (i thought i could listen to mixes while reviewing 130 resumes, but kept looking back to see the waveform, time in song and tracklist. ha ha. okay gotta make this my last review of the day)
  25. hey man posted some comments in soundcloud but didnt want to hog it. freakin loved it, played it again from 17.50 outro was awesome too, love that grrl vocal/ sample at end (26.00). shames my phrasing hard gotta study this thru! your mixes are all seemless and feel like they should go together. hey you make much use of looping, sampling and effects? and with sampling you using the mixer, an additional unit or just cues on the cdj? whats the song coming in at around 18.40. anywho thumbs up, damn hands up
