hey pulsebeat, its the same as the old video rental market. you could go to kmart and buy a vid for about $30, but if you want to buy it for rental it was anywhere from $100 to $300, which was meant to cover the studios share of the money you are about to make. its the same with music, by paying the appropriate licenses you can turn non-commercial songs into commercially useable ines as you have paid your royalties. of course these licenses are just for playing out you cant then record and sell OR sample and use in a remix; then you get into copyright issues and more royalties...

hey, just note the bmore sound was more people remixing other songs and giving it a bmore club sound. but then you had certain artists who took the sound to release their own stuff with a gutter/ booty theme to their raps. some artists to check (who dont specifically meet the above two genres but do marry hip hop & a variant of house) spank rock benny blanco & spank rocks bangers & cash collabo (pure gold every track a banger) amanda blank pase rock ninja sonik plastic little aquasky (they had a good breakbeat bass series) anything where sporty-o, whiskey pete or loc e have rapped on and as above check defunct!'s cassette noise album prob my fave album of the year. has breaks, bass, dub everything UPDATE: oh you asked for albums. just google/ juno these peeps and see what you like. oh and other than spank rock these arent very commercial so not sure how it will go over. you definitely couldnt do a whole night of it to an rnb/ pop crowd. but me id love it...

if the crowd would cater for rnb then no chilled out house will make all the chicken heads fall asleep. i would say electro house (given all new rnb or hip pop has gone the way of electro) or hip house. like skank said start rnb, then you can drop some hip pop, breaking into hip house, then into either funk house or chicago house. the other route would be rnb, then you can drop some hip pop, breaking into bmore or booty tech, then into electro house. ha ha but for real (not that i dj club but ive been clubbing for donkeys) you cant plan the set just ride the vibe. anywho, as for tracks sounds like you going commercial so as above check aria and beatport charts. personally id go bmore bass/ miami bass or booty tech!!!!

ummm well fools gold and mad decent usually put up 320KBS remixes of their current release (or even better Fools Gold will put up a mix of their current release you cant buy, i.e. only for the blog people) for free. ive asked before about the legality of using these to play seeing as they have been released by the label with no restrictions. i am guessing if it has an australian release (i.e. someone owns distribution rights) then you can't use it without paying, but surely those that have no distribution rights or as above arent actually released i.e. the remix has been sent out for free by the label, is yours to use as you like??? answers to my query were either way then it got into a massive arguement and then we moved on because someone posted up something funny...

oh yeah it just came to me this morn, do you want to mix using your laptop as an input or do you want to use the cdj's to control your mp3's. if the former as above, if the latter you will need traktor scratch or serato and some time coded cd's.

other thing to consider: if the cable from the laptop is plugged into the line input on the mixer, make sure you select line on the mixer also by adding a laptop with a grounding pin you will probably introduce a ground loop hum which you can fix with various ground loop isolators. let us know how you go. mixer name and laptop model may help if you cant get it to go.

oh shyte i thought i saw yer name. long time no see. what mixer? as you say no usb on the mixer then what you need is a jack to rca cable (i.e 1 side 3.5mm jack to a red & white rca). the jack goes into your laptops spdif connection (where you would plug in your headphones or external speakers) and the rca's into the mixers channel input, i assume the line input. note however depending on your laptops sound card it may be low quality sound. you could buy a cheapish sound card? oh yeah when you say the desktop didnt have a sound card it must have if it could play sound to external speakers (or the mixer), it is probably just one that is built into the motherboard.

hey buck but it makes no mention about dedicated thruput just that you can use USB1 and USB2. i.e. if you plug just one USB1 item you are only getting USB1 for eveything. which in reality may only make a difference with hard drives, but maybe also Audio 4/8 latency times

hi one thing related to USB ports (sorry fab but not necessarily power) is that they are very tricky in terms of thruput if you are using both usb1 (which a lot of sound cards or midis run on) and usb2 devices in the hub. i read that if you mix them they will all run at usb1 thruput. also something about a hub will only share the capacity of that usb port. however you can get hubs that guarantee dedicated thruput; and if plugged in equal power coming thru all devices. i have a belkin one (its the ovaly looking ones that can stack). in a sec ill post pics, links and the article (i think it was dj techtools) EDIT: okay found article. as below. so it says as long as its powered then all ports can have max power. http://www.djtechtools.com/2010/01/25/u ... j-hi-spee/ and in regards to the tetra belkin usb hub (which can handle usb 1 and usb 2 at full performance) i couldnt find it in oz and i think its superseeded so i bought this http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/pr ... 2EE7737600)ID1522395655DB01875142119983057922End;saplb_*=(J2EE7737600)7737655

ha ha as per my previous post im just a forum dj but what we were getting at dennis is to DJ i use Vinyl, albeit thru a DVS system. So to answer a question like "What do you use to DJ", i could easily say time coded Vinyl. as opposed to what media format is your music, then i'd say mp3. oh well you say tomato i say tamatas

yeah ive thought about i a couple of times esp. while at uni. at fbi there is kinda a lot of people who volunteer about who want in with an on air gig, and i think they try to promote from within. so prob best to volunteer. at 2ser im pretty sure i read somewhere where you can send in your ideas for a show and if they like it, then theyll check you for your skills. all of this was based on things i came across on the interweb, so possibly believable...
