  1. traktor scratch is if you want to use timecode. midi can be used with both.
  2. just to be clear (and prob the millionth time ive posted it) because even people who own it didnt know (just check NI forum for the number of times people start the thread beatlock not working), you cant use beatlock if you intend on using timecode. and another thing which seems to mislead people is you cant actually just buy traktor get your songs and voila by pressing beat match they will all mix perfctly. you actually have to sit there and beat grid your songs (i.e create lines to the beat so the program knows where the beats are in the song and hence be able to beatmatch). while tedious of course once done then you can use the infamous beatmatch (unless you are using timecode then you cant..)
  3. yeah man thats a jipp for those battle records. record store do it for heaps cheaper. i got dirt style anniversary AND one of the other ones for fifty bucks. for eighty bucks you prob could of shipped in like four of them from thud rumble
  4. year 12 formal buck, means the grrls will be your age mann. let skank spin while you alternate between running man; jesus poses; bboy arms across chest; and standing behind skank pumping one hand in the air!! you'll kill it. make sure you wear bigg ass D&G sunnies.
  5. its a setting in traktor not the soundcard. it will automatically gain adjust your tracks so they are all on the same level. i would prefer not to use it, but yeah i didnt really touch anything in traktor so i hopefully dont have it on (and now that i think about it im always having to adjust gains when im checking the next track so i prob dont have it on).
  6. cool thanks for the heads up. do you use auto gain? im assuming it must be a preamp thing which is why cdj's arent affected, ill update tonight when i try to get a milli vanilli to afrojack mix going ha ha..
  7. oh should of used google as well. found this on NI http://www.native-instruments.com/forum ... hp?t=97680 with the primary bit being that i can select vinyl on the soundcard to ensure it is preamped
  8. hey you plan on using traktor or time code with traktor scratch? if the latter, you would be using the pitch control on your cdj's as normal. while doing this you could actually technically still adjust the pitch in traktor (referred to as the internal pitch/tempo), but i guess thats why i was asking why would you do that. and yes if you were to adjust the pitch internally the cdj wont show the bpm. actually now that i think about it do the cdj's show the bpm when using the timecodes??? on the other hand if what you are wanting to do is use the cdj's just as controllers for traktor, then you can set it up so the pitch controls control the internal pitch.
  9. ahhhh. maybe. if thats default then I probably do, havent really touched anything in traktor. ill give it a geez tonight. thanks man!!
  10. yeah if i flick the switches i mentioned above it bypasses the audio 8. cant remember but im sure it sounds heaps louder. but that kind of defeats the purpose of the audio through in traktor though. cuz sometimes he'd leave me with a track playing on vinyl and i knew an awesome track i had in my files so switched the other deck back to time-code control, so had to mess around with gains to ensure i didnt jump in too loud. which i know you should level your gains anywho, but we had to go all the way to 10 on someof the vinyls.
  11. oops i just realised you wanted to control pitch with cdj. i read that as you wanted to control the traktor pitch using the pitch controls on the cdj. ignore my comment above then
  12. i dont know man, qbert the god of scratch says traktor. craze the most winningest turntablist says traktor. so i think its more a matter of preference. in regards to OP. what cdj's do you have? if they can send MIDI signals then yes traktor will work (i dont know serato, but plenty of people here use it so im sure they can let you know). but why exactly do you want to do that if the CDJ can control the pitch??
  13. and on a side note (to hijack my own thread) for any doubters of a dvs system. my mate who has been spinning vinyl for years and never used dvs (except the last time he was over, but only for like 10 mins because we went straight to vinyl after that), all i had to show him was that you right click to load your track and he was away doing his thing. and could not feel any difference what so ever. and conversely when we jumped to using vinyl i was just as good (just as shit). which is like i said, the dvs is nothing more than a carriage for the media, the actual motions are exactly the same.
  14. not sure how many peeps have traktor scratch out there (buck i know you do), but jut wondering if when you use "audio through" option (i.e. use an actual vinyl or an actual cd which routes thru the sound card back to the mixer) the sound is softer than using the time code vinyl? i noticed it when i was kicking around my beatles collection on the weekend that i had to crank the master on my mixer right up. And then last night we were hopping between my mates vinyl and the time code, and the same thing the actual vinyl (which were all early to mid 00's tracks) sounded heaps softer. anyone else find this? is it because older vinyl as recorded at a lower volume? or is it something the sound card is doing? i know i can bypass taktor by switching the turntables to line and then flicking the mixer input to line, but thats a pain in the ass.
  15. resurrection.... as i mentioned in the 1000 member thread me and my mates had a smash last night on the decks in celebration (well it may have been planned before that, but i tapped a bottle of CC in recognition) anywhos, the reason for bringing back this old gem was +1 to my own post above, in that i think having an experienced dj to kick it around with can make you jump bigger steps in your learning. ive only touched the decks twice in the last two months, and while i think my beatmatching and phrase matching was getting better, last night i was hitting some good ones, including doing quick cut mixes. its good from an affirmation point of view (feels awesome when the crew scream "miixxxx" when you get an awesome transition, or even better when you get the hands in the air "wooooooo" ); from a seeing something they do and you try to follow it; to straight out getting advice and tips on the spot. we were all over the shop doing like 3 songs then swap, and spanned from house to booty tech to baile to electro staright up to vocal house. he even grabbed the short acapella rap spank rock mc does on the bangers & cash ep and scratched it up over this funk house track, in particular allowing the "balls" part to keep dropping. anywho just saying again i think each of these seshs equals about 2 months of me on my own learning. EIDT: while i was hitting some good ones i also had just as many train wrecks, stopping the turntable with the playing track! quick cut to a song without ensuring gains were right! and just straight out shit beatmatching
  16. http://www.djtechtools.com/2010/07/03/b ... -classics/ hey man here is the article i was talking about. it was called pop phenomena and its the tail end of the article. you prob already know the phrase music structure bit at the top. so funny when i first read this article almost a year ago it seemed really insightful. rereading it just seems like common sense shows how clueless i musta been basically just says dont f with the chorus. mix intros or instrumentals i. the chorus such that you go frm chorus to first/ last verse respectively.
  17. nice plug gandy
  18. oh man congrats. nice pickup for the gig. and +1 to skank about considering hiring. yr setup may have seemed loud. but adding bodies and open space it may quash some of the volume.
  19. as to mixing pop tracks w vocal there is a thing dubbed the pop theory. there was a good article on djtt about it that i think was posted up here. ill try to find it.
  20. top advice above for me too. as per tubby and skank yeah peeps would bpm their tracks and write it down just to give you some indication as to what to pitch it at. so i think knowing what the bpm of the next track helps then its All ear from there
  21. hasnt chinese laundry got something spech this week or is it next... yeah mos def check it. i only found out a couple weeks bqck moto has residency there (hands down the best rnb/hip hop dj in the scene). not sure what he spins there. i know he was doing some commercial house with his regular hip hop/ rnb set at tank
  22. yeah man that sounds like heaps, assuming that doesnt include sound (speakers and the like), though you'll prob have enuff for that too. i dont know jack all about cdj's so ill let the others speak, but you could prob get a good cdj package at any of the stores that comes with decks mixers and case.
  23. yo welcome what genres you down with (prob best put that in yer other post to)
