Ive heard of him around here or there. Of the 3 or 4 tracks ive heard i dont dig it. Nothing really special. But thats just IMO. All the best for him. He does drop verses on 9th wonders latest album which i really like. But thats prob more about 9ths beats and producing. Nice chill sound, smooth female backing vocals. But yeah ill give him props on that track, he nails it pretty good.

dropping on the one - help on cueing

hmmmmm. that sounds pretty interesting. might have to give it a go. and yeah your right it can give you that one beat to not drop if it turns out not the right time. might be a bit harder for things other than four on the floor as the second beat might be a hihat or snare which isnt so distinct, and may make it harder to rock the beat. but yeah for sure ill give it a go. -
nice one sol. can i have the vinyl
-
then again i was probably refering to literature from the late 80's
-
no idea why people use to say dont use it. i think maybe it was about messing with the sounds of the song but as mitch has pointed out, algorithms probably have been improved. but i definitely distinctly remember reading/ watching in beginners material that keylock should be avoided
-
so do people actually use that keylock thing? my turnies have the function if you plug as line in as opposed to phono, and yeah traktor has it. but i remember when i first started reading up on djing, one of the first things was dont use keylock?

dropping on the one - help on cueing

yeah cheers man. i think i got the right technique just not best execution. as with chris' comment i scratch the beat its just i either prematurely blow or push too hard. jizm, so im not just counting i am actually scratching (rocking) the beat. but yeah need to practice and feel it. oh and chris, as of late (because i was so rusty) i havent been hot dropping. so ive been dropping with the line faders down. so it kinda doesnt matter speeding it up. but i know what you mean about speeding up being too obvious and coming through the sound. in fact when im one beat behind i even do that change the turntable speed from 33 to 45 for a split second to catch that beat. and then only when im in beat do i bring the line faders up. wussy i know. i did do that mix last december where i was hot dropping everything because i was working with lyrics. cant believe i went so far backwards this year just for being out the game for a few months. -
For the syd peeps. this months outpost thang at cockatoo island has lots of goodies. art, skating, music, breaking. i believe its all free too. http://www.outpost.cockatooisland.gov.au/ while i was a little disappointed as i thought there would be a banksy installation which are usually pretty massive, its actually just someones perso banksy stash. either way much more than just that going on. lots of great artists installations. aus street skate competition. secret wars. which is a live art battle (my sis has been to a few, and ive seen vids, looks awesome) shadow wars. a break comp. now its just deciding which weekend i go.

Damnnn this is schweet. I might have to try to organise a road trip -
coinky dinkall. popped watch the throne on after posting my post and listening to murder to excellence now. yeah great track. awesome backing beats on that one.

check the frank ocean songs. and if you got the bonus tracks, the pete rock one. these are my fave on the album im not a big jay-z fan so album was only aiight. i think this album shows how much better kanye is as a rapper, not only does he beat jay lyrically on each track. if you look between tracks kanye changes his styles up (yes its still only a repertoire of 7 or 8 styles) but jay-z sounds the same on every single track! imo though.

been a while since no fool. why - nate dogg from the gridlock'd soundtrack. awesome nate track with his deep nasal verses into a an almost preaching chorus. typical subject matter of being sad for passed ones while asking why and hoping for change. awesome bridge. on a sidenote anyone ever watch gridlock'd? film with tupac and tim roth, about heroine addicts. while i know rapper turned actors are usually frowned upon, to me this was prob tupac at his best (i mean he did go to an arts & acting school before he bacme a rapper), as well as being the best script he ever acted in. black comedy/ drama. so no real jokes but some laffs, while all within a serious situation.tim roth is also king. and thandie newtown is a babe soundtrack has a few gems. especially Life Is A Traffic Jam. which has pac and Newton (i think) over some jazz. one of my fave tracks of all time, of all time.

Pathways to becoming a Dj...your thoughts?
eggssell replied to SourceRaver's topic in DJ Headquarters
jaz i guess that would be someone who went from controller to cdj only (like yourself if i remember). but yeah that looks really good source. start an academy mann. -
the racing carnival is more than the melbourne cup mann doesnt matter who you are or what you do, once actually sell records and are liked by more than the hipsters. people will call you a sell out tiesto, mau5, skrillex, paul oakenfold, pharrell, pac, foo fighters, public enemy, ll cool j, silverchair, green day, offspring, nirvana, rat cat the real goal in the music industry is to create so much buzz that your first record/ cassette tape gets copied and copied and copied until everyone is listening to it. but then the trick is to not actually sell any records, dont get into magazines, and dont get any mainstream buzz. because making money and being accepted by the mainstream is the kiss of death to your music career. ive said it before, but i could never understand how we hate all the pop/ washed down music mainstream listen to; but we also hate when mainstream listen to good music/ artists/ genres. so what the hell are the mainstream meant to do? also i think people are usually more likely to listen to more commercial dulled down tracks from a genre if they really dont listen to that genre. so because you all edm fans, you hate commercial edm. but most of you not really into hip hop, yet you all liked that G6 song (you all claimed not to, yet it was in so many mixes, and so many bootlegs!!!). while hip hoppers would not have listened or even known that track! /rant and not sticking up for either of these 2 cats. i dont know havana; and only know guettas song with cudder which i loved the armand van helden mix; and the snoop song which sucks dead doggs balls. and i dont support popping in whole mixes and actually pretending to be doing stuff
-
Thats not havana is it? Its snob scrilla & cassie of more mega
-
No traktor doesnt have key identifier. Look up trainspotter by a dude from the NI forums. I believe the second version has key identifier if you donate anything above five euro. Or something like that.
-
mik will give you the key of the song, but you will still need to work out what the key will become when you pitch it
-
they dont need to be the same key to be mixing in key. you just need to find keys that work well together (either complment or intentionally dont compliment but work together). there is like a wheel or something that lets you know what works.
-
ummm dont think she ever claimed it was. she is just the singer on the track (she was a singer before she was a DJ). the track was produced by snob scrilla amongst others. (wikipedia). i think people who listen to edm sometimes forget that prior to the superstar dj, producers were not necessarily the front billings. i mean it wasnt quincy jones featuring michael jackson if you know what i mean. dont really know her DJ skills as i dont really know her and cant see the vids, but i know she gets a lot of hate on here so i can only guess that means she's popular(?).
-
not to knock you sol (i stood up for you earlier), but you say you bought them because every part is replaceable yet you are not willing to pay for the replacement part? kind of defeats the purpose. anyways, im glad you found a solution because its frustrating as balls for something not to work properly. good for you
-
your statement is correct, that the key will change. but i dont think it is correct that the keys will be matched because beats are matched. (it may randomly happen but the key is not linked to a particular bpm, i.e not all 128 BPM songs are the same key) i am not sure how much the key changes but maybe google what mattus has said. or wait for someof the more knowledgeable folk in terms of key matched mixing like chris or armed, chev maybe?
