Looking for DJ's in Brisbane to help set up uni club
Jaytee replied to Jaytee's topic in DJ Headquarters
Bad news, UQ is saying no power and no amplified music to cloister stalls. Still waiting on word for stages, negotiations between parties are slow. Looks like we can't play music, gotta think about another idea on how to attract people to sign up and join the club. Any ideas? -

Hmm I'll postpone it. Hard to find a time when most people can come. Parking is expensive, we should make it on a weekend when it's free -

What would you call the piano sections from R&B songs?
Jaytee replied to Jaytee's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
Orite, thanks. So I'll just call it Piano melody? -
I would like to know what the piano part is called. eg. Vocals = Acapella I don't want the instrumental's which includes the beat. I just want the piano part, is it called 'piano solo'? Here's an example. But this is an instrumental which includes the drums and beat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRsC-YX_YiE Would you classify the piano section as classical or R&B if it was just by itself?

Can someone help find us sponsorship? Pioneer apparently sponsored EAS and offered a mixer and some other stuff Lightsounds also used to sponsor EAS so I think Caleupe should hit up his contacts there about that I got someone in graphic design willing to help out with flyers and that so try and get some sponsorships. Maybe ADJF can sponser as well and I can include it on the flyers to hand out on market day, nethertheless i'm still going to include adjf on flyers and hand out cards to people. I will be going to vietnam around Jan 27 to Feb 10 (havent been there since I was 3) Here are some photos of when it existed http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=pho ... 1703317456 -

Alright guys. So far it's calupe, tomy, fuze_digital, some others? and me The meeting will either be this friday, sunday or next wednesday or next week. Work out a time. Tomy says he can't do next week, and fuze said he'll be quite busy. The meeting will go about an hour or so. -
I find my music from searching through Youtube, Blog sites, friends, forums like ADJF and from beatport / djtunes etc.

Nice man. I have a friend who sells tix, he creates an event and invites all his friends to the event on facebook saying he's got cheap tix. He has around 1500 friends and I think about 100-300 will buy tickets off him.

Not everyone does clubs, but what's the difference between various clubs and mobile DJing? Their only difference is different venues, different music, different atmosphere. But with clubs, most DJ's get to choose their style of music, their venues and their atmosphere, while mobile DJ's are forced to play music they might not enjoy, possibly a shitty atmosphere and venue. Of course your job requirements are to play music the client wants to hear, but with clubs, you can choose your venue with the music you love and the clients love. Why earn money from a job that requires you to play music you don't like? Sure, it might make you feel better that the client is enjoying the music, but are you enjoying the music or just the money? That is the question. Most of us chase our passion for our music, not primarily for the satisfaction of clients, especially with music that you don't enjoy.

Looking for DJ's in Brisbane to help set up uni club

Orite, I went up to the UQ Union and asked about the club... basically they have no documents whatsoever and nothing about it. Whoever ran it last, took away around 10 - 20 grand worth of equipment and money, unless it's stored in the uni bar 'Red Room' which I'm going to find out later. The guy said he only remembers abour $80 left in the bank account. I'm going to organise a meeting sometime this week or next week to organise shit out, I will send PM's out. Still trying to confirm / persuade with the uni whether we can play music on market day (busiest day at uni of the year). I'm also trying to include animation, VJing, graphic design, digital publishing, film making, programming, 3D art and a whole lot of other creative pursuits into the club since its under electronic arts. So if you got contacts in Brisbane and their willing to help, hit me up. -

Electronic Artists Society (University of Queensland Club)
Jaytee replied to Jaytee's topic in DJ Headquarters
Reserved post. -
Hey guys. I created this thread to help organise, collect ideas and generally talk about about getting this club up and going again at the University of Queensland. What is the EAS? The Electronic Artists Society is a collective of people who are dedicated to promoting, producing and performing electronic arts. The Electronic Artists Society started out in 1999 and since has grown to be one of UQ’s most active societies. Our focus is on electronic music, with the majority of our members being DJ’s, music producers, electronic musicians or just people who love electronic music. Our main goal is to get DJ’s and artists out of the bedroom and into the scene, either in front of a crowd at one of our gigs or on CD. Aside from music we also support all kinds of electronic art including, animation, VJing, graphic design, digital publishing, film making, programming, 3D art and a whole lot of other creative pursuits. We promote the skills of our members through workshops, forums, CD publications and parties. For many, the EAS is a way to release previously undiscovered talent outside of the bedroom but most of all, its a way to hook up with other people who are immersed in digital art of one kind or another. For more information come along to one of our events or you can join the email group by sending a blank email to eas.uniqld@gmail.com People who are currently willing to help out: Caleupe wazza Tomy elixr (Maybe) Skank (When he's in Brisbane) defanutley (When he's in Brisbane) fuze digital Broken (When he's in Brisbane) Market day is coming up, it one of the biggest events at UQ. << Click for more details ============================================ Here is a list of questions, drop any other ideas you have in as well. Note: Everything is voluntary, you will not get paid 1. What events should be held? - Regular gigs at Red Room (Unpaid) - Lectures / Lessons on DJing, Graphic design, animation etc. - Parties - CD Publication? - BBQ's to raise funds 2. What day should our meeting be to organise things? Date between: Sunday 10th January - Sunday 24th January Suggest when you are free. 3. What is your expertise? What can you help out with? How often can you generally help out approximately? eg. Once a month, once a fortnight. More to add..

Definitely. I think there was some before, but they weren't too good looking. Hopefully we'll get some good ones this year There's plenty of hot girls at UQ -
haha i dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing Bad thing. It honestly doesn't sound too bad despite combining all the songs together which could sound way worse if I did it.

No idea, got a phone call from him and got most things cleared up. He has dyslexia hence the hard to understand writing. We could start fresh, I'll try to organise a meeting sometime, or a start new thread with ideas we could integrate into what we could do this year. I was told that this club had loads of equipment, turntables, PA system, computers ect. (I have to find them, but I was told by Andy that the bar possibly could have the equipment). Here is the list of agenda's. 1. Find out as much information about the club by visiting the UQ Union to obtain all the documents. Including location of equipment, funds in the bank. 2. Organise UQ Market day - Equipment - People to help out at the table (Mixing, talking to people about the club and djing etc) Basically we have hired out two tables to display information about our club, set up turntables to play music and to put some flyers. There will be aproximately 50-100 other clubs, stores, companies there. Throughout the day we will be persuading people to become a member ($2 fee or free) which can grant them free DJ lessons (Volunteer's to hold lessons), discounts, and cheaper / free access to events. 3. Organise the weekly gigs (Thursday) at the 'Red Room Bar' at the uni which was held when the club existed. 4. Discuss other events, plan and organise them.
