Hardware depreciation rate and shopping suggestions?
Brenchen replied to Brenchen's topic in Mixers & Controllers
Tried some negotiating, he was going to settle with 180. The item was barely used (according to him) and got it late last year, so I assume we only have half the year of warranty left. So we are looking at a 70 bux reduction from brand new. What would you say? -
The app sounds cool, what's it called? Yea he also told me to update traktor too, just waiting for it to download now and see how we go.
-
Yea I got it from StoreDJ. Just called them up and they said to get me to download the latest driver... i can't remember seeing there's any drivers for my controller before...
-
Can I get some light on this please guys?
-
But ive only had the controller for less than a month

Hi guys, As I was using my Mixtrack Pro 2 tonight on Traktor Pro 2, there was a strange behaviour of the deck B volume sliders... On the software, the position of the slider seems to be jittering at a certain spot, and when I move the physical slider, it will move as well, in random speeds (ie. when I move the physical slider up smoothly, the corresponding software one will just go up really fast suddenly, then slow down again etc.). When I leave the slider along, uncommanded jitter takes place. It almost looked like there are some kind of interference but I've checked my cables and anything else that could be of interference, nothing seems to be wrong. When the software sliders were jittering, I can see the MIDI signal light on top of the software also gets input, that's why I suspect of an interference. I did a search online before asking, and I've tried to reconfigure the controller, that didn't seem to help. I've also tried to restart traktor and restart the computer, none seem to be of any use. I also have serato DJ intro, but there is no graphical volume slides, so I can't see whether it was a software or hardware issue. Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hardware depreciation rate and shopping suggestions?
Brenchen replied to Brenchen's topic in Mixers & Controllers
haha, man you're good at it! It'll be hard because I have to get my mate to go pick it up for me, we are not in the same area... So I won't even meet the guy face to face. Basically I am just asking if he's willing to get the price down a bit, he said it costs 300 bux retailed which can be misleading because he might have picked them up for a whole lot cheaper! Anyway, awaiting replies. -
Hardware depreciation rate and shopping suggestions?

lol, I got the impression that he's not going to go lower than 460, so if anything, it'll have to be the other 2: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/brunswic ... 1044445841 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/brunswic ... 1044445930 From DJ City you can pick up a brand new one for 249 bux, you reckon the reported 220 for the controllers are worth it or should I take it down lower, say 200? -

Yea I asked whether they were willing to go lower, and they only put it down another 5 bux... Not worth it you say? -
Hardware depreciation rate and shopping suggestions?
Brenchen replied to Brenchen's topic in Mixers & Controllers
It's just that I saw some items on gumtree (namely the ones I'm after - X1 and Z1), they seemed to only depreciate very little, around the range of 20-40 bux from brand new, but they say the condition is "very good" and only had it for a few months or few weeks with minimal use... That's why I was wondering whether in this hobby(?), the condition of the items justifies the very little depreciation? Is that the way it goes? Like for a brand new car, the moment you drive it out of the factory/dealer, exaggeratedly speaking, the value of the vehicle is already halved! -

Hi guys, I'm new to the DJ world so just wanted to get an idea on the titled? Firstly, does hardware (let say mixers/controllers etc.) depreciate rapidly (ie. inverse exponentially) after the initial purchase like motor vehicles or bicycles do, even if the items are still in "like-new" conditions with minimal usage? Or does the price go down linearly with respect to its usage and cosmetics? And secondly, when I do my shopping, the five places I usually look for (excl. forums) are ebay (most expensive), StoreDJ, DJ City, JB Hifi and gumtree, but their price (for brand new at least) are highly similar. Are there any other distributors or online shops you guys use that can get a better price? I've seen somewhere that someone recommended Amazon from US and use a 3rd party shipping service, however, with the current exchange rate, it seems the few dollar savings are not really worth the hassle. Hope I don't annoy anyone by asking these types of questions, and thank you in advance. -
DJ name to me is one of the hardest things to decide on. Well done on having it! Having said that, welcome!

Help with setup decisions (with some restrictions)?
Brenchen replied to Brenchen's topic in Mixers & Controllers
So, I did some more digging around and came across Reloop Contour Interface (w/ audio interface) and Denon SC2000 (w/o audio interface). I'm slightly inclined towards the Denon however I can't seemed to find too much info on it? What makes it worse is none of the two major DJ equipment distributors that I know of (StoreDJ and DJ City) carry this controller... I find that odd, it is not very popular in Australia or has anyone used it or had a look at it before? -

Yes, the Z1 is an audio interface and a mixer all in one. -

So X1 with Z1 as X1 don't have a mixer? -

Indeed! I'm looking at no more than the cost of an X1, so around 280 tops. But willing to stretch it a little if I feel it's necessary. -

Yea that's it! Something like this looks good. If there are anymore suggestions please let me know, meanwhile I'll keep looking. -

Realising that X1 doesn't have native volume adjust (faders, EQ etc.) is a huge minus for me, need to think again... Sure I can download existing or remap it myself so it works like a mixer, but it indeed could get messy. Can anyone recommend something that is like the X1 but including faders and EQ etc. vol adjustment mechanisms? -

I've trained myself not to use the SYNC button even if I have it. Some may say I'm stubborn but now that I'm used to it (or at least getting better), I'm happy to do it this way (keeps me busy ). What I mean was how does people beatmatch manually using an X1 without pitch sliders do you know? -

Interesting! So how does people beatmatch manually or is it commonly not done manually? -

Ah ok, so the X1 don't have volume faders or gain controls? The X1 MK2's touch strip brings some of those feature back I'd think no? You can nudge and even scratch with it from what I've seen (not saying I'll scratch with it though). In terms of external soundcard, why is the ASIO4ALL not sufficient? It does a pretty good job doesn't it? If I can use that one and add a USB <-> Audio adapter, that can give me two audio outputs. -

All interesting points there. DrC1: Firstly, at this stage, the F1 is indeed just for cue points. The fact that it allows up to 8 cue points I like it very much. Although when I get my head around remixing with samples, I will be doing that as well. And I don't have an S2, I only have the MTP2, which is slightly smaller than the S2. However, the main problem is still space/convenience for me. I can do a lot of what S2 can do (so I think anyway) on my MTP2 so I'm not that concerned at getting another or replacing my current AIO controllers. Spitfire: I'm not quite sure of that one no, can you give me some more information? Is it from NI as well? Mitch: Interesting point there. But I'm curious as to what kind of basic skills do MTP2/X1 take away? At the moment I do all my own beatmatching and never use "sync" even I have it matched and just to keep it in time. What other aspects are there? -

My current controller is still very slightly smaller than the S2, and it's claiming too much space already, that's why I would like to move to an even smaller option. So say I get an X1, does that mean I need to get an audio interface as well? Or just use the ASIO4ALL will suffice? -

The reason for the inclination to switch to modular is because of the lack of space at home. I haven't played out before (I'm still very new in this) so not sure how that would be like, but just practicing, setting up, taking down, and all the physical fatigue I get from using an AIO controller is putting me off; I can't just switch on a computer and software and start practicing. If a modular was setup, the controllers can be neatly stacked away behind my monitors and when I want to use it, I just take it out and start using it.
