please elaborate. I don't really get what you mean. I think he means more than 'Get Lucky' needs to be highlighted to listeners from the album ah right, Well what artist puts more than one single out at a time? I'm sure others will follow. Yeah, I was more talking about radio play. I have heard a few of the other songs on tripple j, but only once... Usually, to get played on commercial radio as a new artist you will need a few singles it seems.

I agree... need more than 1 single

Reminds me of something i saw by Zedd, which i totally agree with: “I have to admit I’m a little confused by some young fans nowadays and their behavior and reaction to artists success. When I was a (young) kid the only thing I wished for my fav bands was exposure & success. I’d celebrate if I saw/heard them on TV: radio. I remember hearing “Billy Talent” on MTV. I forever will love MTV for that. They made me discover a band I’ve listened to for years! It’s 2013: you hear people say: “I heard my fav song on the radio. Thanks for ruining it!” This reaction is completely paradox to me. Another thing is, I remember seeing my fav artists in a way ‘untouchable’ and ‘far away’. I’m glad twitter accounts bring artists and fans closer BUT that turned into people being rude and saying mean things to the artist just to get attention and an answer. Such a selfish, stupid behavior. It feels like fans want to ‘own’ the artist and decide over their music, shows and give their 2 cents on everything. Sometimes you gotta let the artist be the artist and either accept what an artist puts out creatively or just listen to something else. Anyway, I usually prefer for people to make their own thoughts for themselves but this car ride was just really fucking long” -Zedd

I honestly can't name a Tiesto or Armin Van Buuren song hey Or the general punter. I manily use it as a diversion tactic not to play their request

I got to shake hands with tiesto after an interview at a music masterclass a few years ago... and he seemed very humble. I do agree, in the fact that it is 'cool to like daft punk' It also seemed 'cool' to like tiesto a few years ago. One little thing i like to do is playfully quiz people (not unlike tiesto it seems)... for example, say there is an upcoming music festival and the headliner is armin van buuren, and someone is talking about how they want to go to the festival becasue they love armin van buuren. If you ask them 9 times out of 10 what the favourite avb song is they will say 'this is what it feels like' and 9 times out of 10 they won't be able to name any other tracks.

John Course speaks out about the length of DJ sets
djbater replied to Mitch's topic in DJ Headquarters
It used to be the standard that a set was 90 minutes or 2 hours at all the venues that i played at. Now I would say the standard is 1 hour, and it is simply driven by promoters being lazy and getting more DJs to bring more punters through the door. The shortest sets I have ever played were 45 minutes which sucked, and I have done 1 hour sets where it is a vs set (so effectively 1/2 hour). I do play a lot of pub gigs where i play between 2 and 7 hours, which is good to be able to have full control of the music and the night. -

Hey, are we doing aria chart from april, or aria chart from June?

I'm new, but would be keen for this. I like the idea of the top 10 aria chart... can we use other acapellas though?

I used to love recording songs off the radio, or off other tapes. Used to be the best in our family at pushing play and record at the same time

Many variables for pay, but generally mine is as follows: 5 hours Saturday - $400 plus $50 per half hour after that 5 hours other nights - $350 plus $50 per half hour after that Generally charge a little more in November/December as these are the busiest months. Also charge extra for weddings, as correspondence and music requests prior to the event take time. Charge extra for gigs in woop woop Charge extra if required to set up more than 1 hour prior to event. I always mention that my price is lower than the standard cost, and that I welcome tips if it is not the best experience you could hope for. Very seldom do i not get an extra 50

Daft Punk: "It's healthy that some people hate the album"
djbater replied to Cupe's topic in DJ Headquarters
I bought the album over the weekend, and have listed start to finish a few times. The tracks that stand out to me are get lucky, give life back to music, and fragments of time. Not a fan of the one with the voice over, and there is another track that sounds like the background music of the info channel when you are staying in a hotel... but it is their album so they can do what they want. -
I've been at places where there have been all in brawls whilst i have been DJing. Particularly back in the day at the wheelers. I was told never to turn down the music if a fight broke out as it only makes it worse. Most of the scuffles these days involve security guards and punters that don't want to leave. Once I was doing a Greek Wedding in brighton and was under strict instructions about music to play from the bride and groom. There was one guy there, (fesh of the boat greek), was not happy that i didn't take his request and was giving me a hard time. Got me in a headlock, and threw me to the ground... others jumped in and helped me (including the groom), and I was ready to stop playing and pack up, but being a wedding and then couple being nice i didn't want that to ruin there wedding. So i kept playing on the proviso that if something happened again i would stop the music and pack up. Sure enough, he came up and took a swing... and i packed up and left about half way through.

I'd say ministry of sound, proablably 2002 and 2003. I used to be into rock, played guitar and only listened to that sort of stuff. Probably a late starter as I only converted when i started going out in 2003. Still though, a lot of my favourite songs are rock tracks from the 90s.

I think it is a good idea no matter which way they structure the line-up. Will be interesting to see the price difference between a 1 day and a 2 day. Usually Adelaide and Melbourne are on the same day, so having 3 across 3 days will make it better for the performers. Interestingly, it is on the same day as the bon jovi concert in melbourne. Not sure how many people this will effect, but personally I am going to be securing a bon jovi ticket before the 4th of July when the lineup comes out, and then make my decision later on.

The thing that i learnt after my first gig is to quote your price for 5 hours and then give a rate for time after that.

Hi, I have been mobile DJing for about 7 years, and probably doing weddings for about 4. I only started doing weddings when people I knew started getting married. When you play at a wedding venue for the first time it gives you the opportunity to impress the funtion manager and get on the preferred suppliers list, which generates a lot of business. Towards the end of last year / start of this year i was doing up to 3 weddings a week (plus full time work which killed me). There are pros and cons to wedding DJing... pros being, better pay, free meal, etc. Cons being that a lot of it is fade in fade out, so can get quite boring. But in order to get started i would recommend promoting yourself as a wedding dj at every opportunity, lie / extend the truth and say that you have done heaps of weddings before (nobody wants there wedding to be your first gig). And introduce yourself to the function manager.
