Hi all, Just a couple of quick question in regards to speakers. Currently I have American Audio 15” 550Watt passive speakers and RCF ED1100 amp. These go great, very loud, heaps of bass, never had an issue in the 10 years I have had them. But the downside is it is a very heavy system to cart around. I have an opportunity to buy 2 x RCF art 322a off a friend. I do a lot of functions, weddings, and various events, some outdoor beer garden work, etc. Questions: Does anyone have these speakers or know about them and would they recommend for my use? Is $1k good price for a pair in good condition? My mixer has 2 sets of outputs (Master 1 and Master 2), could I run these active speakers and my old passive speakers for a larger event? And would the sound of 2 entirely different speaker types work or not work together? The RCFs have 12” and I feel that I could get a 15” JBL, behringer, Mackie for the same price range. What do people think about these? Any advice is apreciated... Thanks

Thanks guys, I was more asking if it was worth it... If it only reduces it to 2gb then I probably wouldn't bother. But if I can get it to a few hundred mb or less that would be great. Do u know what size the file will reduce to approx? Thanks

Hi all, I recorded a set on the weekend, and the result is a 4 GB Wav file. The set is 6 hours, so understandable. But I want to share this with some people, and rather than giving them USBs, is it possible to reduce this to a size which is more downloader friendly. I know I will need to use an program to compress it, but my question is what will I be able to get 4 GB to without losing quality. Thanks,

Hi All, Just a quick question. I am from Melbourne, and heading to Stereo Sydney this weekend. I notice the main stage is in a stadium, so my question is.... are there lines and waiting to get in and out of the main stage? If anyone who has been last year or the year before and can answer that would be great. Thanks,

Usually with mixing RnB I will loop a section of the song which is predominantly lower end, and then basically swap lower end between 2 songs, so that you have the lyrics continuing over a new beat. Then, depending on the track, either release the loop and loop or add effects to the lyrics, or use a different cue point to restart new track where I want it… if that makes sense.

The "I'm looking for this type of music" thread
djbater replied to Narukami's topic in DJ Headquarters
Also, one thing I have been looking for is 1 song in particular. Very housey with A violin through tour the track. No lyrics. And I think it is used at the end of the hamish and Andy radio show. If anyone knows this or any other violin house style that would be great -

I've been working on a bit of retro sets recently and maybe the following night interest you: Claudia Barry - sweet dynamite (Todd Terje edit) Leo Perez - colours Dynamicron - 2 hot #mali - boogie monster Thelma Houston - if u feel it Not necessarily of the same era, but have a similar feel. If u go through youtube and like them, the related section will guide u along. -
Thanks all... Problem is solved. Dragged the grey marker, warped the tracks and then played around with EQ 3 and 8. Worked perfectly.

Hi guys, I am very new to ableton and have been doing tutorials, and everything has been going smoothly. But there is one thing that I want to do that I can't work out how. Basically I have a lot of 'mash-ups' that I play live, and I wanted to formalise some of these, and make them better. Then further down the track, potentially put a beat I make behind the lyrics. So in order to do this, I need to chop up the audio files in ableton, which I can do in the track display window, but I can't seem to get the exact point required as I am restricted by the grid it seems.. I am sure there must be a way around this. Also, how would I EQ a audio file (as in equivalent to turning the bass down on a normal mixer). Thanks,

What is the Best Pioneer CDJ for You?
djbater replied to yizzle's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
I agree the 350s are great. I also have the 350 mixer and it has it's positives and negatives. The record to USB function is awesome, and track marker is handy. The effects only run through the master, which is annoying. And you can't cue 3rd channel without the master up. -
I don’t have much experience with vinyl, but on the weekend just passed I went hunting around Sydney (I live in Melbourne, just up for work atm) for about $300 worth to get a mate started. I went to about 5 places, but the one that stood out was ‘record store’ in Darlinghurst. Staff were awesome, recommended heaps of stuff, and free beers whilst I was listening. I literally spent 4 hours at the shop.

Does A Good DJ Make You 'Dance More & Drink Less'?
djbater replied to yizzle's topic in DJ Headquarters
I work at a venue where when bar sales are low they turn off the air-con. And management always have me announcing drink specials for the next 10 minutes, etc. But I have never been told to play a bad song (well at least not by management, requests are a different story) to encourage people to head to the bar. I have been told by management / security not to play certain songs as the crowd gets too rowdy. -
CDs all the way. I played at a place that had 100s the other day. (And the original ones where the tempo percentage was wrong). I burn through iTunes for ease, and most CDs have something bought on iTunes, so end up not doing mp3s. I find the sound wave on the 1000s loads substantially quicker rather than mp3s.

Bit of both really. but i did think it was the bass that did the damage.

I have been conscious of my ears since day 1 of DJing. A couple of little things I do are: -Wear my headphones most of the time, even with no sound coming out. -Never go past quarter volume for the cue, sometimes when I hop on after another DJ it is set at ¾ or full, they must be doing damage. -When cueing up a track, I always have the bass turned down. -If possible, (only when working with a particular entertainment company) I will get a reverse sub for cancellation. -I don’t particularly use a booth monitor, even when I have one. In a few properly designed venues the DJ booth is one of the quietest places in the club, which is good. I feel that any damage done is either from when I am drunk, as all my rules go out the window or when I am in a venue waiting to DJ or not DJing.

I would suggest if you know another DJ, going along with them to a few functions, expanding your music knowledge and seeing how different crowds react to different genres, etc.

Visiting from the USA and considering relocating.....
djbater replied to g00se's topic in DJ Headquarters
Agencies are generally the ones that come up first when you search ‘mobile DJ’ on google. Most of their websites have a link for employment. (It says they only hire talented DJs, but believe me they will hire anyone). Some of them even advertise on seek. If you were working for an agency, you would probably get maybe $200-$250 for a 5 hour function. And the agency will be making about the same off you. I did agency work for a few months many years ago, until I went to my cousins 21st where a DJ from the same agency was playing. Worst DJ I had ever seen/heard, and didn’t want to be associated with it. She didn’t know a thing about music. -

If I was in a new place I would probably look to join an agency of some sort to get some initial work. Just be wary, some of them take about a 75% cut of what they charge. -
If SierraJane isn't avaliable, flick us an email djbater@hotmail.com Cheers

I used to DJ regularly on a couple of boats, and they had this thing that stored power for 15 seconds to the DJ decks to stop blackouts effecting the music. Can't rememeber what it is called though... but was just an extension lead with a box on it.
