Yeah...try the AV input 5 first (and select it using the button/knob on the front of the amp). If that doesn't work then remove the RCAs from an input that is currently being used and is known to work. Exactly as Gremmis said. If anyone comments on the lack of volume, or heaven forbids you kill the amp or speakers, tell them to hire some powered PA speakers next time. Make it also very clear to them that you are not responsible for any damage to their equipment!

I'm an idiot and I've potentially ruined my new mixer. Help?
SourceRaver replied to Banderas's topic in Mixers & Controllers
Straight to an electrician and explain what happened. They'll be able to tell you pretty quickly if you've really stuffed it up and give advice on what to do next. They may even let you know before charging to open it up and having a look. -
Party in the front...Business out back. Most folks just dont realise how much work goes into these set ups.

Lighting rig from my last school social:

Hey guys! Simple lighting/smoke setup. Advice appreciated!
SourceRaver replied to Banderas's topic in Lighting & Visuals
Be carefully with some lasers that have colours other than green and red (the human eye is most sensitive to these colours) as they look good in videos but are disappointing in real life as they look really weak and are easily washed out by other lights. Always best to see them in operation first before you buy. -
If you have bubble machine, and a smoke machine...
SourceRaver replied to MintyCondition's topic in Lighting & Visuals
No...there is some video on you tube of a bubble machine that has fog/haze actually inside the bubble. Looks great when they pop! -

How do I work the microphone on a DJM800
SourceRaver replied to odysseyhouse's topic in Mixers & Controllers
Just for the heck of it... Mic cables contain three wires, hence the three pins on an XLR cable. Mic cables with a jack also have three wires but instead of different pins on the connector, they are wired to different parts of the jack. In the case of a 'TRS' cable its the Tip, Ring and Sleeve hance the name. -

The mic connector on the very top left of the mixer accepts both jack (sometimes called TRS) or an XLR connector. -
Looking for an event name...for a vinyl fair/swap meet.
SourceRaver replied to SourceRaver's topic in DJ Headquarters
I'm liking 'off the record'. What about 'MilkCrate 1.0' (as in the original Rekordbox) -
So I'm organising a EDM record fair/swap meet for early next year in Perth. I want to promote it a bit like a club night but need a catchy name. Based on that I'll knock up a flyer and then flood the inerwebz with the deets. The venue is where I work so the name cant be the likes of 'vinyl sluts', 'sex on wax'. black 12 inches' etc. Gotta be able to sell the idea to my boss without offending anyone. So what are your thoughts?

As DrC1 said, the S2 isnt that far different from the S4. If you research the S4 you'll probably find a lot more info on the web.

If you have a bit of musical knowlege, Traktor is the best value option at the moment. Without musical knowledge, VDJ has a slight advantage as it visually illustrates 'bars' (a small segment of the repeating beats in a tune) really well. Its important to time your mixes (blending one track with another) so that the bars of the both tracks land on the same beat. Plenty of stuff on the web about this and its relatively easy to learn by just listening to the music without the need for software.

Get the S4 and get a feel for using a control surface. If your still keen and want to have a crack at beatmixing, then buy a couple of second hand 850s. The S4 will allow you to plug the CDjs in and use it just like a traditional mixer. Best of both worlds.

We tried! lets wait to O gets back till we have the next meet. Event...cancelled.

He's 'riding the pitch' by using the pitch slider to speed up and slow down the record without using his hands or fingers. Pretty impressive given the track is constantly speeding up. I love watching some Djs (Ellaskins is one) who beat match using only this method. At my best I could get the beat matched by using my fingers and if it started to drift during the mix I'd ride the pitch to bring it back in.

How to expand your Dj System...
SourceRaver replied to SourceRaver's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
Thats going to be a real challenge as there are so many factors that can potentially affect it: Budget? Existing equipment? Existing music library (vinyl, CD or MP3)? Digital native or tourist? Level of motivation? Personal Goals? Have to think about that one... -

Have updated image with: Introduced HID section Added software images Noted that VDJ has DVS capability Standalone/Midi controller added -
What can I use as my first Dj set up and how can I expand it later? The diagram below shows some common pathways that a beginner DJ can take to establish and expand their DJ system. This is a link for a better view: Here (Note: All the equipment/software systems below allow for realistic Dj mixing unless noted)

new DJ equipment for a new DJ
SourceRaver replied to generaltheory's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
Learning to DJ on turntables is an expensive option (compared to other entry paths) but if you master the art then you will find it really easy to move onto CDJs and controllers if need be. Like Sol, you'll probably end up with a range of Dj gear and use different control surfaces (TTs, CDJs or controller) for different types of gigs. -
Wow!
