  1. was worrying about you for a minute andyman, then I noticed the date this thread was posted on. is all good again now bro?
  2. they split... they get column inches. they do solo work... they make more news. they reform for tour... they make mega bucks again. just another cynical media trick to make more bucks from suckers.
  3. good idea crunddy. Graf is regularly included on larger projects I work on for bigger organisations. If this idea works with djing and i can make a dolla then the plan is to expand to include: graf beatbox breakdance streetdance mcing I know boys who can deliver all these, but i gotta know I can pay them before I waste their time
  4. yer cap5, that's what i said too:
  5. if i'm on traktor i use traktor's internal record. if i'm on itch i use itch's internal record. if i'm on anything else I use ableton with my native instruments 8 soundcard as the A/D convertor... ...but I never render the audio in ableton. I just source it on the hard drive and use it raw. TBH i heard audacity was as good as anything else. Your sound quality is more likely to be due to the lack of a quality A/D convertor. Internal laptop soundcards are not known for high quality. Although it could be that you are recording via your minijack and the soundcard settings think it's a mic. If you can change the setting to "line" which is what a DJ mixer's output is.
  6. Honeymoon period over mate? If it was a woman would you see it through and get deeper or pass on to the next for another amazing honeymoon period? Personally I would prob lay back on DJing for fun. But dont expect anything to get you back into it. That is just lining you up for disappointment. Something unexpected will get you back into it when the time is right, then it will be right. I would also keep doing the gig. If you can make it work when it is a chore then you pass the next stage in the game. Ask any pro DJ who has been doing the job for a while - they've all been through this at one point or another. Good luck, keep it real.
  7. TBH I'm still not 100% decided on this issue. Both sides of the discussion seem righteous: 1) Doing mashups for the love of the music and coz you want to share the love is what DJS are supposed to do. It promotes the original artist, gives pleasure to the listener and encourages newbies to get involved making music and DJing. If no money is being earned and you show love for the original then where's the problem? 2) Doing mashups thieves intellectual copyright from the original artist, can be used to heavily promote a new artist without paying a penny, and can encourage amateur whales to fill the internet with rubbish. Personally I think this is one of those issues that cannot have a definitive answer. Each individual mashup/remix/re-edit needs assessing individually to see if its fair or not. But as we have no global music judiciary I guess we have to keep ourselves governing ourselves. Thank Fuck.
  8. Hi there Cap5 my name is Foolish I am an opinionated crap DJ who sounds terrible on recorded mixes and no one ever dances when I play live. I am back because now I am overit. BIGUP!
  9. ez I'm also still a big fan of golden era 90's hip hop and rnb. I'm more daisy age than Gangsta and don't have anywhere near the memory that eggs has maintained.... but a good beat is a good beat and I'll never deny that. 89-94 was my era for house/acid/techno looking fwd to sharing some memories around the boards mate
  10. Shit bro, ignored this coz I figured you just wanted the usual modulated wobbles and fwoo. Too late for me now but help yerself to any of my mixclouds. is a hiphop/funky beats jam at about 105 bpm, beastie boys, j5, jackson 5 reworks etc. Good party starter for early on. There are also cheesy motown and throwback 80's mixes on their if you want. Guns n roses, Bon jovi, belinda carlisle all that ish.
  11. 7.45 am in my neck of the woods, what a way to start a day: if you dont know it but you recognise it you may know this: what a melody.
  12. haha just fuckin with ya boss and yer Eggs: There is def a market there, i've been making a living out of doing this for 8 years. What I'm trying to say is this is the 1st time I have done it totally independently and promoted it myself. I already know I can do the teaching and that the kids will have a great time and learn a lot. The issue I've got is in producing advertising and a website that looks cool to kids (i.e. not boring like school) but also looks safe and worth paying for to parents. If i make it too educational kids wont wanna come. If I make it too cool I'll look the pied piper. So i thought i'd post it here, hoping that I'd get some feedback about how it looked and worked. You know, is it too wordy? too bright? font too small? not enough pics? any info you'd want to know that I have missed off? eg) I have now added an equipment page listing all the stuff I have available for the course following feedback from a pal over here. Any of you got any input?
  13. ^oh shit yeah Lurker. edit: this is the blurb included in my biography (http://djschooluk.org.uk/?page_id=83) that has got me work in schools etc previously: "I have always found that once young people have the chance to feel comfortable in a culture of respect and realise that it’s ok to be different, we can work together in an artistic direction of their choice. To achieve the results they desire I share the knowledge they need to operate the equipment while encouraging an open, artistic mode of thought regarding the techniques they may apply to their work. The artistic mode of thought keeps them thinking outside the box and ensures they are in control of the direction of the work while the technical knowledge helps them learn to learn, requiring them to take methodical and reflective notes, plan future steps and practise techniques." But the biggest issue is that is all over the media so I have to show I am legit (and not cupe )
  14. cheers eggs, Yer.... it's not quite off the ground yet. This is to be the pilot. Had so many fuck ups so far trying to get a good team and venue but I'm still here. and i'm still doing the same job for heaps of other schools and organisations.... this one is my own ting tho. The buck stops right here kinda thing. and by buck i mean all the dolla and all the issues! I'm running a fine line between making it look good to kids but making it look reputable to parents. It's the olds who pay, it's the youth who enjoy. Is a tricky getting the marketing right. That's why all the feedback I can get is srs appreciated
  15. ^defo mate. If the design and text and ish gets the msg across on that site then I can let that go live and start on FB, plus flyers, posters, radio promo etc etc. cheers for looking
  16. ez all... I know none of you can come to this but this is my new project. If you were under 18 and you lived near me would this website get you interested? http://djschooluk.org.uk/ feedback seriously needed before I go live and start biggin this up.
  17. aye: is an honest and well informed point of view from someone in the know.
  18. LOL... You drive a hard bargain... 2 beers it is
  19. true dat... i'm only playing devils advotroll to keep an interesting thread going. To be brutally honest I cant say I'm too heavily into law though, I prefer ethics. eg if I wanted to remix a bangin track you made I would ask you str8 up. Then when you said "groovy baby, but it'll cost you a beer" I would post on my soundcloud: "samples willingly cleared by Addi who is the dope dj responsible for this sweet sample and a great inspiration to me." We both win. If i wanted to use a sample of david guetta who is already rolling in cash and kissing the corporate arse... or even worse a sample of some girl band whose income all gets diverted to the monstrous record companies who fill the pop charts with shit... well then I would be ethically required to pay nowt and say nowt. But that's just me
  20. if you eat it, no problem. ...and here is where the analogy breaks down lol: If you post it on an internationally accessible website for anyone to hear and to help promote your own rep and career then I reckon you owe the originator a little rep too. It is totally different to straight up pirating but the essence is the same. IMO the essence is: someone worked hard to produce a sound. You have taken their work as inspiration and re-worked it, adding your own input and spending your own time on it. You post this coz you love it, you also know it may help increase your online stats and thus your rep. If you didnt at least chk with the original composer then I reckon you done them wrong. In an ideal situ you and the original composer would profit from both your work. The big issue here is that we all pretty much want to give up our day jobs and earn a living making and playing music. If we dont set the standard for offering props and income to those whose music we use why should we expect to ever earn anything ourselves?
  21. Just to put this into perspective: If I go into Macdonalds, steal a heap of bigmacs, take out all the gherkins and add sweet chilli sauce so they are my own unique creation, then give them away for free. Have I done anything wrong? Point being: remixes and mashups done without the original copyright owners consent are theft, just the same as straight up pirating. We used to have specialised sample clearance lawyers and still do but as there is no internationally agreed law there are huge blurry lines regarding what is ok or not on the internet. If you really want to go for it I always suggest you contact the original composer (just like we did when looking for sample clearance pre-internet). Normally these days it's some guy just like you who is happy to give you permission for free anyway. If you find yourself against a brick wall of lawyers defending some david guetta shit that you have only improved - well at least then you can then make an informed choice wether or not you think it righteous to thief from the crap WHALE.
  22. ^good tip that. Also as you build up your energy, and as the bass pumps more and more - be aware of stuff shaking, bouncing and wobbling in the booth... Bass vibrations = stuff moves. It happens all the time as shown by the laptop you mentioned. But if that was a badly place beer... you wouldnt have been able to recover quite so quick. sounds like you pulled it off tho,
  23. aye: that's why these gigs are up there amongst my favs BTW Vlad, I am foolish, new id is overit. Back from walkabout buddy.
