aye 212 is pretty played out over here now and is ready for playing at weddings. Was in every bar/club etc all year coz it was so good at bridging the gap between dance and hiphop. But yer, i sold my soul and got over it so now play shit (gangnam) if I have to when mobile. It's only a drop in the ocean compared to the quality I get to play at proper gigs. In my mind mobile and club gig are such different jobs it's no different to a chef cooking burgers all day then treating his mates to a proper banquet in the eve. that said last night was a cool mobile gig, and it's real nice when I can go mobile but feel like it was (mostly) a mates gig.
-
^fuckin gangnam style. I did a great wedding last night, golden era hiphop all over the playlists and all the guests were really up for it. Most requests from guests on the night were already on the playlist, a sure sign that the crew were tight, and they reacted really well. ...except the 12yr old who emotionally blackmailed the bride to insist on that gangnam song (even though she knew it wasn't cool)... so I had to drop it... then the brat did the dance while everyone else went to the bar. Interlude over: mixed in azealia banks 212. Dancefloor instantly packed again but funnily enough the 12yr olds mum took him away then back to the hiphop.

sorry lads. just my opinion. I havent even seen it but when that pete tong film came out even more clubs in the uk got filled with idiots full of catchphrases who expected certain things as if the whole culture was a theme park they'd seen advertised. some pals of mine made this docu (not a movie). It isnt released yet so I am blatantly just spreading the word for them...promises to be quite informative if you like knowing and learning and stuff.

I mean huge as in hits 'em hard right away. Let 'em know you mean business with a huge drop or sumthin... Then maybe do a big build up track 2 or 3 songs in to really start your journey by DJ. You can't overthink competitions. In my experience it is only when you have overthought everything beforehand that you can let it all go and rock it in the moment. -

I think this is essential so: DO something terrible to his last song. eg rewind, or if it's cdjs use stop and wind down effect by having the brake speed on max. Even better ask the promoter/judge to do it and introduce you like they would at a big comp. Then start fresh with something huge. -
^exactly how to do it. I have mobile work and my own creative djing, then I also have my teaching work. All 3 are seperate businesses and apart from when a student wants to know how I really DJ (once they are over 18) the only time the 3 branches of my business get close to each other is when I do my annual tax return. Images, logos, email addressess etc are all different for each branch of work. Phone number is same but only coz I'm not carrying 3 phones everywhere.

ITCH Software Midi Control via keystroke translator

^ yes mate. All good over here. Both my kids are at school now so I'm getting lots more time during the day to get shit done. Been recording again, organising events and setting up my DJSchool. chk this: http://DJSchoolUK.org.uk We're ready for bookings but the main public pilot is planned for spring 2013, same as serato DJ for Itch users LOL How are you lot? -
^ not that I care what image you use but be aware: most mobile DJs I know also have the same aim to get some sort of residency. There is absolutely no reason why you can't do both with totally seperate websites, logos, etc etc. The two businesses do not really compete anyway and if a club promoter discovers the dope DJ he booked is also known as a reliable mobile then that promoter will just feel he is the presence of a true pro who can handle his own shit.

^ waddya mean? Sol could have brought anything he wants can't he?
-
perhaps: " Now I have in my possession over 9 grand of equipment, which has all been paid for myself. Including 3400w of speakers, many lights & lasers, along with industry standard mixing equipment." = "Hire fee includes the use of $9K of professional DJ equipment including lights, lasers and 3400W of sound."

Hey wazza me ole mucker! I used to be called foolish, imadje, djim.... remember me? Now i'm overit And yes mate... this thread is redundant now... Serato DJ FTW. although: being the cautious type I will be keeping my ITCH 2.1 as a backup for gigs until I have fully soak tested Serato DJ. -
ah, seen. I'll keep my eyes open for threads about the new serato DJ from you then. Nice piece of kit for mobile isn't it?
-
lol, it actually lets us vote for both of you using the same email. done.
-
I didnt know there were any other Itch users since Gandy sold his NS6 what do you use Sol? what version of Itch and have you tried the MITCH software yet? (see: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=11506)
-
^agreed, I dont think this is as much about the new controller as it is about Serato using their flagship software without timecode for the first time. Up until now they only used Itch on controllers. I use Itch on a NS6 and will soon get free upgrade to Serato DJ. Lookin fwd to it too.
-
I was selling DJ gear when they first released the CDJ1000MKII and it was the first one our team considered reasonably able to claim they had achieved "vinyl emulation." In truth nothing is close to vinyl but nothing skips like vinyl either, so all manufacturers and DJs have been looking for something to satisfy button pressing and platter manipulation forever. Which is why I think it such a shame they put so many buttons under the platters and thus in the way if you want to juggle. Denon have done ok but IMHO the best controllers for scratching are still NS7 and NS6.
-
They are def looking at the presspress DJs more than turntablists. Position and size of jog wheels will make scratching very tricky. So is more like the Traktor S4/Denon mc6000 than the NS7/NS6 family. Serato software losing timecode is a new step for them for sure tho.
